  1. The NFHS is due to issue it's press release either tomorrow or early next week. Until then all committee members are embargoed from discussing the results of our meeting. As soon as I receive the press release by e-mail (we are supposed to have it sent to us right before it is released) I will put the info on this site. Dave Cloud
  2. I'll never forget Troy Patton getting the fall over Cathedral in the meet at the Natatorium and jumping up to do his, well, let's call it a dance. The crowd was going crazy. The place was electric. For once, Boyer is right: Great wrestlers, great coaches, great fans for both schools and an intense interest from the entire wrestling community.
  3. AJ, There was a proposal a couple of years ago, by PA I believe, to cut to 12 weight classes. Though we all think of Pittsburgh andPhilly, PA is really a very rural state with a lot of small schools. The old joke: Pennsylvania is Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with Kentucky in between. There has been no serious proposal, to my knowledge, to increase the number of weight classes. The NFHS did give Tennessee permission to experiment with a seven weight class wrestling format to accomodate the number of small schools and even large schools that have very few wrestlers in TN. And PLEASE call me Dave.
  4. WCS145: Thank you for this post. The analysis is outstanding and I appreciate the amount of time it must have taken you. Your argument for option C was very thorough and enlightening. I appreciate the input from everyone and have gained a lot from reading your posts. Thanks, Dave Cloud
  5. Congratulations to Hebron High School. Welcome to the party!
  6. Please keep it coming. Again, I want to hear your reasons for your preference. If you just say which option you prefer it doesn't add much to the discussion. When we get to this issue at the committee meeting, it will come down to who has the most persuasive argument. Thanks for giving me your thoughts! Dave
  7. If the NFHS votes to change the weight classes the earliest it would be done is for the 2011-2012 season.
  8. Also, I need to point out, this is not the NFHS officially requesting this input. I am seeking the information for my own benefit for when we enter discussions and voting at the meeting. I feel the more I hear from the Indiana wrestling community the more informed a decision I can make. Thanks, Dave
  9. Community Members, I think it would benefit everyone to have the toughts posted for all to read. However, if you have specific questions, a more lenghty response, or a desire for more privacy please feel free to contact me at my school e-mail address: dcloud@smadison.k12.in.us Thanks, Dave
  10. The NFHS Wrestling Rules Committee will be meeting in April. The decision on the weight classes is on the agenda. The decision will be difficult. Many people say they would like to see changes made in the weight classes. However, when you start trying to actually come up with 14 weights (we agreed in principle to keep the number of weight classes the same) that everyone can agree upon is nearly impossible. I WOULD like to hear from the members of the IndianaMat community what your thoughts are on the four proposals (keeping the current weights is an option in addition to the three proposals). Please give your reasons for your support of the various options. Thanks, Dave Cloud Member, NFHS Rules Committee
  11. Thanks to everyone for attending this year. The late start was due to difficulties with satellite weigh-ins. We have already discussed a method for eliminating this problem next year. We ran over 300 wrestlers through in five hours of wrestling. Our volunteers did a fantastic job. Arabian Wrestling Club officers worked their butts off to put on a great show. See you next year!
  12. Dan, Great to hear from you! Fred has a lot of people spread all over the place who remember him fondly. I know all the Madison Heights, Highland and Anderson people wherever they are will be thinking of Fred. Anthony is a very good wrestler. He will be tough to beat. There are going to be some awesome ticket matches tomorrow. Hope to see you at New Castle. Dave
  13. Below is Fred's obituary from today's (Friday) Anderson Herald Bulletin. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Ceremony Sunday from 1-4 at Loose Funeral Home. If you cannot make it to the Celebration Ceremony, you can go on the HeraldBulletin.com website, click obituaries and on Fred's page you can sign the guestbook and leave a message for his family. I also encourage you to make the donation Fred requested. Both city high school programs work very hard to give students in the Anderson school system the discipline and structure some of them lack in their home lives. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred J. Lamb Dec. 12, 1936 - Feb. 11, 2009 ALEXANDRIA ? Fred Joseph Lamb, 72, Alexandria, passed away Feb. 11, 2009, at his residence. He was born Dec. 21, 1936, in Washington, Ind., and resided in Madison County for 62 years. He was a 1956 graduate of Anderson High School, received his bachelor?s degree in 1960 from Indiana University and received his master?s degree from Ball State University in 1970. He was Anderson High School?s first State Wrestling Champion and was the Big 10 Champion. He taught and coached at Anderson Community Schools for 36 years. He was inducted into the Indiana Wrestling Coach?s Association Hall of Fame in 1988, was one of the founders of the annual Madison County Wrestling Tournament, received the Outstanding Wrestling Trophy now named in his honor, a member of the Indiana High School Wrestling Association, ?I? Men?s Association, I.U. Alumni Association, American Legion Post 408 and Madison County Voiture 510 40 and 8. He is survived by his wife, whom he married April 6, 1968, Betty ?Janie? (Hanlon) Lamb; two children, Greg and wife Kristin Lamb of Noblesville and Tomya J. ?Tomi? and husband Mike Brooks of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Olivia Brooks, Chase Brooks, Blake Ingles, Aiden Lamb and a little one due in May. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Fay (Mattingly) Lamb; and a brother, Thomas Lamb. A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Anderson and Highland wrestling teams through the funeral home.
  14. Sad news for the wrestling world: Fred Lamb, former IU wrestler and standout high school wrestler from Madison County passed away yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. Fred was a fantastic wrestler (Big Ten Champion) and an excellent coach. He and John Dull put together some very strong teams at Madison Heights. He was a fixture at local tournaments and was unfailingly polite to everyone he met. Fred donated his body to IU Medical School. Though there will not be a funeral, the family is planning for some type of ceremony. It will likely be this Sunday in Anderson. I will post the details when I hear from the family. I know Fred would probably appreciate it most if you went to a Semi-State tournament this weekend, enjoyed the wrestling, cheered for the kids, swapped stories with the coaches and fans, gave the officials a little good-natured heckling and kept him in your heart. That way, Fred will be at all four Semi-States. He'd like that. So long Fred, we'll all miss you. Dave Cloud Arabian Wrestling
  15. Agreed, we need to find a better way to get an alternate. Odds favor the alternate being a fourth place Sectional finisher. Why? Because the two fourth place finishers in each Sectional face a Sectional champion in the Regional first round. Look at your Regional brackets. At PH Saturday 12 of the 14 weights were won by Sectional champions, making a fourth place finisher from the sectional an alternate to Semi-State. The only exceptions were Cathedral's Tony McGinley at 140, who forfeited his sectional final as a precautionary measure due to a sore shoulder and Ben Vondersaar of Guerin who lost in the sectional semi-finals due to an injury to his opponent during a moved called as illegal). However, IHSAA will not agree to wrestlebacks for the alternate spot. The host schools would sell more concessions by keeping more people there longer (which I don't mind as a Regional host) but there are no extra ticket sales and the school AD's would be less likely to want to host a regional if you had to add 42 more matches (28 matches in the first round of wrestleback, 14 matches in the second). Some of them host other events that night and adding that many matches would make it tough to do both. I think the only only plausible idea I've seen so far is to go with the highest "seeded" wrestler who didn't make it out of the first round and in the event of a tie (two thirds losing in first round, for example) go with the kid from the sectional that produced the weight class champ. This won't cost anything, take any longer or be difficult to understand. I'd like to hear your thoughts Dave Cloud
