  1. What would you change in aspects of high school wrestling in the state? I'd make a few changes. I'd bring back the old team state tournament. I'd change the format though and make it dual meet for sectionals instead individual results determining sectional champions who then had duals throughout. I'd also incorporate the coaches Class tournament. I'd also expand it in to sectional, regional, and maybe semi state or just put it to state from regional. I'd also put wrestle backs in all portions of the individual tournament including state. Still have only top 8 place. I know the schedule probably wouldn't allow for this.

Sorry the thread should be "in control of" not controlling.

  2. I agree. The goal is to be the best in your weight when you step on the mat that day. Of course when you split it into two classes that can't happen.

That's why I think we should have both and not just one or the other. With class we get more involved and interested in the sport. With our current we get the best of the best. However many think my idea is dumb.

  3. I like the idea of scoring points from sectionals to state for individual team points champion team. We have the class duals decided (just wish it was tweaked). Somehow we should figure a formula to combine dual results with individual tournament results and crown a champion.

  4. The problem is there are pros and cons each way. Maybe the ihsaa should hire an outside consulting firm to examine and collect data from other states to truely weigh out the pros and cons and figure out what would be best for the kids wrestling... Not for their pocket books

That would be great but probably not realistic, but hey I post non realistic ideas all the time. The Ihsaa probably doesn't even care that wrestling exists unless it severely damaged their pocketbook.

  5. So your opinion is that when a Mishawaka freshman and a Triton freshman step on the mat the first day of practice freshman year, each has an equal likelihood of earning a medal at state before the four year timer is up?  Is that an accurate assessment?

I'm saying that an individual has control of their own destiny in those four years by hard work and determination. The Mishawaka kid may have less obstacles than the Triton kid in obtaining that medal, but if that Triton kid wants it bad enough he will earn it.

  6. Galagore, when it comes to individual performance school size has little to do in my opinion. However when it comes to determining a team champ that way I think it is a disadvantage for small schools. Only sport where we never have a true champion as dual match ups and strategies are different than individual results gaining team points.

  7. I would like to see both formats. I doubt this would be possible though. I love the class team duals but like to see everyone with a shot. Have class individual tournament during the regular season and then all classes individual tournament at the end. Almost like it being tournament of champions. Love to see all class team duals tournament back also. In essence we could have a team being a champion four times. Class individual points, class team dual, all class team dual, and all class individual points team champions.

  8. How about Adams County wrestling? Adams Central wins it's 2nd class A title giving them 2 out of 3 titles with a runner up. Bellmont finishing second in their first appearance. South Adams has quality wrestlers who could and should make it to state and maybe bring home a title. For a small county in the middle of nowhere, Adams County is producing quality wrestling.
