My favorite finish, but I'm bios........

The Warsaw wrestler rallied in the final seconds to earn a thrilling victory in the IHSAA State Finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Hatch, a WCHS freshman, posted an incredible come from behind 13-12 win by decision over Lakeland senior Lukas Long in first-round action in the 106-pound weight class.

Hatch, who rallied from being down 7-1, avenged a loss to Lukas earlier this season to move into quarterfinal action Saturday morning.

“It was just fantastic,” said Warsaw coach Justin Smith about the win in a phone interview Friday night. “It seemed like the whole arena was watching this match. I know this one will stick in my mind forever.”

Hatch trailed 9-3 entering the third and final period. He got three takedowns to pull within 12-10 late in the match before getting the final three points in the final few seconds on a stalling call on Long and a final takedown just before the match concluded for the 13-12 victory.

“Everyone, including us knew the score and that Kyle had won 13-12,” recounted Smith. “But, Kyle thought at first it was 12-12 and he went back to the center ready for overtime. He then found out he had won and was jumping up and down and screaming like the rest of us.”

He shot 4 sweeps back and forth, back and forth till he chopped the tree down. The crowd went wild. One of the few matches I don't have on tape, because ISHAA was supposed to tape it and they didn't. The company that did it for them no longer exist and I haven't been able to find a copy.

I would consider this..... My LEAST favorite finish... haha #Gased

  2. I'm excited for the Father/Son matchups of Fremont vs. Angola and Fairfield vs. West Noble. Thanksgiving dinner won't be the same in the Smoker and Marsh families.

Give it a couple more years we could have 3 Father/Son match ups. B)

  3. Top EIGHT!

  4. Team Race:

The most prestigious award of them all, the team state championship, desired by all teams, but only claimed by one. This year’s team race is as close as it can get. IMO there are three teams with a horse in the race. The bull dogs of Brownsburg, the Kingsmen of Penn and the Warriors of Warren Central.

    Break down of teams:

    Brownsburg:

    7 wrestlers

    Predicted places:

    106: 1st

    113: 3rd

    120: 3rd

    138 1st

    170 3rd

    182: 4th

    195: NP

    Penn:

    7 Wrestlers

    Predicted places:

    106: 2cd

    113: 6th

    120: 1st

    152: 2cd

    160: 4th

    195: NP

    220: 1st

    Warren Central:

    8 wrestlers

    106: 3rd

    113: 5th

    120: 7th

    126: 5th

    138: 3rd

    152: 4th

    170: NP

    195: 2cd

Possible Key Matches (based off of MY predicted Places)

    106: ALL 3 TEAMS HAVE A WRESTLER

     Mills(BB) Vs Murphy(WC)- Semis

     Mills(BB) Vs. Cavanaugh(Penn) Finals

    113: ALL 3 TEAMS HAVE A WRESTLER

    Turner(WC) Vs. Slates(Penn) 5th/6th place match

120: All 3 TEAMS HAVE WRESTLERS

    Hildebrant(Penn) Vs. Mullkey(WC)- Finals

138: McKinney (WC) Vs. Lee(BB)- Finals

152: Pruitt (WC) Vs. Prentice(Penn)- Semis

The final team scores will ultimately come down to the team that peaks and has the wrestlers with the most heart. This Saturday which ever team can do that will be the champion. Good luck to all teams.

  5. Dark Horse*...LOL Long form Lakeland at 126, has been wresting up most of the season to take on tough competition, now dropping back down to 126 looks huge for the weight class. Last year lost to Mejia in the Regional finals in overtime, then drew the eventual a state runner up in Miller during the ticket round.

  6. Different rules for that school pal. Perhaps getting a clue on the rules that St. John Bosco, St. Eds, and Blair Academy play by before disparaging the accomplishments of Indiana wrestling should be paramount to you prior to coming on a message board and posting your 3rd post. I can tell you will add a great deal of content to the wrestling community. #You'reAwesome

They may have different rules, but why in Indiana can't we adjust our rules to be the same as theres? Why do they automatically gain an unfair advantage against us? if we want to be elite we should give ourselves the same opportunities . I wasn't saying what we have accomplished thus far was "weak" or "mediocre" I'm extremely proud of all the accomplishments. I just don't want us to be satisfied. Also to attack me at a personal level questioning what i add to the wrestling commutity based off of what i post on a web page, really shows your character as a person, i was just pointing out where we stand as a state.

  7. Is it really a nice representation for Indiana though? I mean sure we have our stand out wrestlers, but in the big scope of things we only have 10 ranked wrestlers averaging a ranking of 8.9, and 2 ranked teams( #25, #42), one of which doesn't have any national rank wrestlers on their team. So yeah sure if you want to say that as a state, we are growing and become stronger thats great, but I certainly hope we're not satisfied with these mediocore numbers. One high school by its self has 6 nationally ranked wrestles, we have 10 as a state. So lets stop accepting anything except the best and keep growing! #RealityCheck
