  1. I have no idea if the coaches have discussed the options with the wrestlers. But the point is how do coaches deal with the crap parents put out? If the young man wants to wrestle and can't break into the line up at the weight he wants to, but wont cut 3 pounds to give his team someone at a vacant spot of the roster, I am not sure how the kids parent can see this as slighting the kid on the coaches part. I bet the kid would have been really upset to hear his dad talk like that in the first place. But then Timmy Jr doesn't want to put out the effort to shed 3 pounds for an automatic shot at the varsity line up, assuming there is not ANOTHER reason the coach is holding him out, like attitude or lack of commitment. I was just curious how coaches have learned to deal with this sort of thing. It would drive me over the edge in about a day. Being there for the kids, and the commitment most coaches show to the sport is outstanding, but not strangling and idiot parent must be something in the DNA.
  2. The problem is actually the parents. I think the kids understand the "pecking order" and the process used to set the varsity roster. Parents tend to get wrapped up in the "Why is Timmy Jr not out there?" mode and not looking at the facts. Timmy Jr is JV behind a kid that has made it to the State Tourney 3 years in a row and basically owns every kid in the room. Timmy Jr is also 3 pounds above the next weight class and we could use someone there who is motivated to perform. It's a Win Win Win ... But Timmy Sr wants to make it out to be a huge issue of personalities and slights with the coaches and program in general. I was honestly ready to belt the guy for being such a cry baby.
  3. Excellent points. From my point of view, it is the Coaches team first. He is contracted to the school therefore he has the say. That "say" should be the product of clear conversations between the principle players, as you listed them. I will add this though, the parents should focus on the one point that directly impacts their influence and concern for their child and that is the cutting of weight. The coach knows better who has the skill set he wants in each weight class and what each kids path to success looks like. The kids do have a huge responsibility to do what is the most difficult of all most of the time and that is to do what is best for the team and not so much what you wish for. Parents can have a tendency of spreading ill feelings through out a program if they lose sight of the goal based on their personal feelings about a coach or even kids or other parents. I have seen it happen many times and it is shameful.
  4. I couldn't recall if he was at SS or not. He is much improved this year. No one will know until the dust settles though.
  5. Sage advice! I have no problem in believing the young man could lose the 3 pounds and stay within the program. From what I understand he has actually gained weight since conditioning started (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!). We are not dealing with a Mr Universe type of physical specimen here. In my day, cutting weight was just a part of the sport and you did what best served the team. Now they have protections in place (a good thing in my book) but we often see kids who pull on a singlet and we are presented with what appears to be a "Pig In A Blanket" in your schools colors. I like the idea of having Timmy Sr witness the wrestle off if he is convinced on the idea of favoritism against his son. I assume coaches have various feelings on that and I can understand the pro's and cons. But to shut Mr Olympia up it maybe worth just one exception..
  6. I don't know how you manage it...I have no problems with the kids and the crazy stuff they pull, but the parents would drive me over the edge.
  7. I was talking to the father of a JV wrestler recently and he went on and on about why his son wasn't getting a fair shot at the varsity spot because he presumed the coach just "doesn't like Timmy". I have seen Timmy and the young man wrestling in the Varsity spot currently, and honestly unless the varsity kid was kidnapped, Timmy would not have much of a shot. It's life, and it is the way it is. The oddest part of all is the weight class just below Timmy's current weight class is wide open. The team literally forfeits that weight. According to Timmy Senior his son is only 3 pounds above that the lower weight class anyway! So here is the question, obviously Timmy Sr is not dealing with the reality of things, but how does a coach deal with the parents CONSTANTLY droning on about their kid being slighted when it is obvious the coaches are doing what is best for the team and the kid/parents are holding themselves back? In the 15 minutes this particular parent complained to me, I wanted to kick him in the pills!
  8. I think Witte was a SS qualifier last year.
  9. I don't ever recall MD not fielding a full team. Unless it was away from home and they traveled with just the kids they had scheduled to wrestle.
  10. Solid picks! One question. at 152 has Huelsing wrestled Weinzapfel from MD yet? If so do you know the outcome? Doesn't Allen of Boonville have a win over Schnell at 138? Just throwing that out there.
  11. The 3 HH wrestlers you listed have bumped up and back down again this year. They can pretty much win where ever they decide to wrestle.
  12. Not sure who is at 195 for any of the schools. I think Denver Burden was at 182 for SS a couple of weeks ago and looked very solid...but HH brings 3 ranked kids into the upper weights that stand a good shot of making it into the Semi State if they perform. As for one school being dominant in one area or another, I think it is a push in over all between Reitz and Heritage Hills. Reitz at 106, and 119, (the big 3 at 113 is to close to call). Reitz would be the front runner at 126 or 132 if it weren't for Welch and Wedding. HH at 170 to 220 is VERY stout. 182 is a good one for SS, and I guess 195 also - but I really don't much about the young man... By late January this could all change of course.
  13. Agreed! If he could I wouldn't bet against him at 138! He is just amazing to watch.
  14. That's what I get for posting from work! Kuhn just makes 113 more muddy! The truth about 113 is Mastison is a different wrestler than he has been the last couple of years. Maybe it's about h being a senior? He seems very focused and his height is going to be a problem for opponents. Brown had to get back on the mat. No doubt he is statistical choice based on last years info, but youre only as good as your last match. Kuhn is a solid, tough kid. Reminds me of the guys from my day on the Hill! He has everything he needs to win, but the top 3 spots at 113 could be in any order.
  15. Team finishing order: Memorial Heritage Hills Reitz/Castle Boonville/Harrison Mt Vernon I have a feeling Heritage Hills upper weights will take home some hardware even at the regional meet. Memorial has the most complete team. Heritage Hills next due to their upper weights Reitz and Castle - we will have to see. I think Castle is a better team than they think they are. Very green. Reitz is tough were everyone else is tough, so it's all going to come down to the matches and the day. 113 is a question mark. Harrison and Castle could be the one/two here...but it all depends. 120 might be a fun one to watch. 126/132 could be very interesting if some decide to drop or stay at 132, meaning does Wedding move to 126 to face Welch, or stay at 132 to see Johns? There is the Boonville kid at 126 also. He is a pretty solid kid that doesn't back up. 138 could be an all Warrick County thing with Allen and Schnell. 152 could go to Castle...depends on the day. The rest is really up in the air. I think I can call 170, 182, 195, and 220 as HH, SS, HH, and HH.
  16. Always a great tourney! I see UC taking the team title with multiple undefeated wrestlers. Memorial should show well also. Trinity is always tough and will finish in the top 3. Harrison and Boonville are much improved also! Should be a great couple of days of wrestling!
  17. What teams are going to be there? May help to know who could be in the running.
  18. I was wondering how long they would hang on to the #2 spot after this weekend myself.
  19. Ancient Chinese Secret formula based on Guessing.
  20. Be careful what you wish for! Jasper is at the level they were back in my day! Always have been a great program to compete against but they have really jumped up their game this year!
  21. Sounds like a nice day! Should be some fun matches to watch! Jasper may sneak in there and take it!
  22. Any ideas what teams are going to be at the Bo Henry? Good Match Ups?
  23. he looked pretty good for a guy not wrestling
  24. I really couldn't agree more. If what I have heard is true, it is embarrassing to be an alum of a certain west side program. But I wish the kids well and I am sure they will give it their best. The great news is the Central sectional should be over in time for everyone to head to Castle for the Semi and Final rounds.
  25. I was in the same boat. The teams at Castle were pretty decent. Edgewood was a nice addition. Castle looks young but tough. Union County was incredible!
