  1. 113: Mastison (H) Davis ® Stock (NP) Johnson (MD) Aldridge (N) Suar (MV) 120: Johnson (M) Goebel (MD) Johns ® Turi © Rohlman (MV) Cassidy (N) 126: Vanhook ® Wedding (M) Pierre (MD) Braye (N) Hoehn (MV) Frymire (NP) 138: Lannert (MD) Kelley (CE) Hoehn (MV) Backes (RE) Petrig (ME) Frymire (NP) 145: Bassemier (MD) Kemper (CE) Hayhurst (ME) Appell (RE) Elderkin (NP) Palstring (H) 170: Campbell (N) King (RE) Blanford (MD) Schneider (MD) Funke (ME) Merriweather ( These are the weights that I see the best match ups at. 113 is ridiculous, 120 will be a war, 126 the return of Vanhook, 138 Lannerts to lose, 145 is ridiculous and 170 will be closer for someone. The rest have locks IMO.
  2. King vs Campbell and all of 145 will be fun to watch too. Vanhook should be interesting as well. Come on Saturday.
  3. It was either Center Grove or Valpo. Not sure now.
  4. One of the assistant coaches told me Davis took the Center Grove kid to the end. If Davis had known there were only 30 seconds left in the match he would have won but instead he was pressuring and gave up a throw by with 13 seconds left to lose by 1 point. Either way I say he learned a lesson with that match.
  5. 113 is definitely solid. Mastison, Johnson and Davis have all placed in the top 5 in state while in Middle School. All three...(Mastison not so much) are still young and will make great waves in the future. The no stud factor is deceiving because I know that Davis was beating the #6 kid until the last 30 seconds earlier this year and placed high at Connersville (4th or 5th) and that tournament had 6 ranked 113 pound kids in it. Because the SIAC all beat each other up just means the rest of the state at 113 better watch out for this Region.
  6. 145 is stacked as well as 113. Davis beat Stock a few weeks ago and has been very close to beating Mastison. Its going to be a fun Saturday. I pretty much agree with Jon H. Reitz and Mater Dei will be in a team battle to the end.
  7. Aaron King is not overrated. If anything he doesnt get enough recognition at Reitz because they have Moody, Vanhook and Rueger (all valid reasons to get overlooked). That team is loaded with great wrestlers. The problem that Reitz has is they have 2 types of wrestlers. They have absolute studs who place 3rd or higher every match and then the kids that get pinned every match. King is in position to be one of the highest placing kids at state for Reitz this year.
  8. Mater Dei is dominating right now. I think Reitz and Mater Dei will have the same number of wrestlers in the finals but Mater Dei will pull it off because of the number of consolation victories. Three reasons Reitz will be close. Vanhook is back and will win his finals match. I see Davis in a upset of Mastison in another finals match to bump Reitz closer as well as Kuhn winning his final because Brown is not there. Too much solid wrestling for 3rd and 4th by Mater Dei to beat them however.
  9. Hate to hear he got hurt but glad he had a valid reason to miss out though. Is he okay to wrestle this weekend? Anyone?
  10. North 170 lb...I heard he was a no show to secure the 1 seed next week. I understand he has never beat King and is worried about Warren so a no show means no loss. Not sure if its true.
  11. What are team scores? Anyone have those? Who are the picks to win finals?
  12. Great night of wrestling. It pretty much came down the way I predicted. I even called the 113 match which I also agree was the tightest and most exciting match of the night. Kuhn got the first win to give Reitz some life but Davis got a big win for Reitz and got the momentum going their way. Davis showed toughness from start to finish and wrestled to win. Johns at 120 was another great match that kept the momentum their way. Vanhooks replacement was thrown into a very tough spot and did well for a freshman in that kind of circumstance but I called the pin in that match and was correct. There were just too many holes in the line up for Reitz because of injuries to overcome a great team like Mater Dei. I look forward to the next few weeks as these kids meet up in the SIAC. Reitz at Mater Dei was another great night. I hope everyone made it home safe!
