  1. Coach O'Neill, Just out of curiousity what the capacity for the field house as far as seating. Also what capacity would the gymnasium hold. This sounds like a viable option right now. Also would you mind if I put you in contact with some people who want to get this tournament going?
  2. We are looking for possible locations for next years team state tournament. If you would like to be considered for a host of the event with some procedes coming your way please list the school and # of gyms. Even fans can post on here with there schools. The tenative date looks to be December 22 2012. Suggestions so far: Huntinton North
  3. Head coaches please put your school name, class, and if you are willing to wrestle in a class team tournement. If no please explain why not. I will be making a list of coaches and schools per class to show support non support for next years state championship. Please stay on topic no rebuttles to coaches on this page. 69 of 312 On Record.
  4. I like small to start but I think as long as it is not multiple days the event it is not much harder to run. 24 teams would be 8 or 9 % of the state that is an event. People would travle to see there local teams compete for that state title. Also 3 gyms worth of action for one low price would make me want to come attend. I say we do it from the preseason genius rankings to start. After we hold the tourney for a few years it will become a dead weekend for wrestling, and then you could do it from more current rankings, or you could try and do an all in tournament. To start it will not be perfect, but the preseason genius rankings should hold up to get at least the top 4 teams from each class.
  5. Sorry if you took it as trash talk. I just know that history tends to repeat itselve and recent history shows that Yorktown is 20 points worse at the end of the season or Belmont is 20 points better. It also shows Yorktown has the abilty to pluck wrestlers from other schools to try and gain a competitive advantage on Belmont. Last year it backfired, but maybe they can get the right recruit in to take down Belmont in the last state tournament. Congrats and good luck.
  6. Coach Snyder, I think you can see as much as anyone the wrestling community is not going to agree on how to run the tournament. That being said any proposal that keeps team state alive is a step in the right direction. Me personally I do not love the proposal but am willing to get behind it, because it is a step in the right direction. I think the wrestling community needs to get behind one weekend and make it a dead weekend for the state tournament. The best way to do that is take more teams out of a weekend and then the tournaments will naturally move to different weekends. It will be a scramble for a year to schedule, but then it will be done. If it were up to me I would start with 3 classes and 8 teams at a big 5a high school in the Indy area. Maybe Carmel? Use three gyms one per class. Wrestle 2 pools of 4 teams and make it so the winners of the pools wrestle each other in the championship. You could even wrestle for 1st through 8th place. The finals doesn't need to be special just wrestle it with the other placement matches. Otherwise you could free up 2 gyms early for other events and wrestle all 3 championship in the main gym. Lets not half ass it and lets make this the event. Take the preseason genius rankings to start until the weekend becomes a dead weekend and then you can use a genius ranking from a certain date closer to the actually state series. IF you do not like my idea I get it, but thanks for listening.
  7. In the past few seasons Yorktown has killed Bellmont in the season opener, but the Braves of Belmont have come back to either take the regional title or come within points of beating Yorktown. Is Belmont now the favorite for the regional title? If so which local wrestlers do you think Yorktown will look to to fill those vital weight classes?
  8. I have to agree my pot shots don't do the subject any justice. I will continue to fight against Y2 on most issues, but this one is too big of an issue for me to waiste my time razzing Y2 and Karl. I think we need come together as a wrestling community to make the team state happen. That may mean comprimising with some of the ideas that we think are the best way to do team state. I for one use to be an all in tourney type of guy, but now see that this will not be available at the inception of the tourney. I still like the all in format, but would be willing to compromise at the start as long as we work towards it eventually. If the team state takes off I think it will naturally create a dead week in the season when the tourney is being held. This I think could eventually help the IHSWCA have the all in tourney in a weeks time, but thats down the road. Lets work together and all sacrifice a little for something that will help promote the sport.
  9. I Agree with your suggestions. If you look at the minutes from the last association meeting it looks like the first idea is heading that way. To coach in an event you must be a member, but I totally agree with you that would be a good way to increase membership. How many times did you bring up these ideas? I think sometimes the little stuff gets pushed to the back burners because they are trying to get big stuff through, but those seem fairly easy to accomplish and would make it a lot easier to join. The pot shots probably are not needed, but lets get real you two are the two biggest downers on this site. I mean if the system is broke lets fix it, and if you don't want to fix it then don't beat down people that are trying to get results. If the coaches assoiciation fails then it hurts everyone so you as coaches need to step up and not continue to act like it doesn't matter what you do. If thats your attitude then you deserve the representation you get.
  10. I bet Karl was making the same suggestions 10 minutes after you told him about it, but just out of curiousity whatwere your suggestions?
  11. Hey Karl there is a meeting December 4th tell your buddy Y2 and maybe you two can quit crying like babies on the internet and actually try to do something to help. Oh nevermind that would be to logical. You just want to pick out any flaws in everyone else's stuff but when the time comes for leaders to step up your no where to be found. Thats fine with me since one person shouldn't be allowed two votes. (Since you just agree with anything Y2 says. You and y2 back each other like 2 freshmen soriety girls on hell week.) That being said we need leaders to step up. No more excuses were going to loose any chance at team state if no one steps up.
  12. I think the coaches association should have a make up meeting to vote on the issue of class team state. It is obvious that many of the coaches were not informed there would be a vote of this porportion at the meeting. Lets do another meeting 2 Sundays from now to get all voices heard on the matter. Also lets get more coaches involved in the structuring of the tourney. Any Indy area coaches with 3 gyms come in and try and host the event. Lets not talk on here lets get involved thats the only way to get the association to move in the right direction. If McCormick can not make it thats fine this is an association of the coaches. So set your calenders lets do this two Sundays from now lets talk with ADs and come together for once to grow the sport. Whos with me on giving a little more effort to get this done? It will suck for a season but then all the chips will fall into place. A little sacrifice for a big time event. All coaches who want to attend lets get in contact with McCormick today. If you will attend let the wrestling community know on here.
  13. I don't see whats so hard about inviting 4 or 8 teams to a place and having them wrestle. You act like its rocket science. It saddens me to see the lack of commitment to the sport. If our wrestlers had our coaches commitment we would be dead last in the nation. You should be ashamed for quiting on this. Not to mention the Holiday classic has all of the same problems as a invite state tourney would. The only difference is people would actually come down to see a classed team state tourney. THus we would generate revenue and have new goals for wrestlers and teams to accomplish.
  14. Some people want to grow the sport and some people want to whine when they don't get their way. Small schools have felt left out of the team series for a long time, and when we finally have the chance to make it right for these teams the IHSWCA gives up. If the IHSWCA leadership is not up to the task then maybe we should get new leaders. It would be a fairly simple thing to run if it is a 3 class invite tourney. Either crap or get of the pot, the coaches want a classed team tourney. Are you an association for the coaches or do you just do whatever you feel is in your own teams best interest? I am offended that you even offer a survey when you don't listen to what the state is saying. It is a sad time for Indiana wrestling when we chose to do away with the importance of a team. I also want to say I agree whole heartedly with coach Snyder this was done in a Busch League manor and when you do shaddy things you deserve to be called on it. Congrats on giving up before you even started, I hope you are proud of yourselves.
  15. I am sorry Mr McCormick but I am going to respectfully disagree. When 80% of the coaches say they want a classed team series and the IHSAA gives the association the opportunity you have to jump on it. The association dropped the ball big time on this. If you do not have the time or do not want to put in the effort to making Indiana wrestling better on the team side then maybe someone else should fill in. You complain about scheduling problems with schools, but the truth is a holiday classic still has those same problems. Mr Snyder does not see a reason to change his schedule for this event and I am willing to bet most other teams are not taking this well either. Also how is this different then any other tourney? It will be about the 5th best event over the holidays so how does this create any attention to the sport? Why would more fans be in attendance? Do you and the association not get the opportunity you have in front of you or is this just lack of effort? Why not find a big 5a school with 3 gyms. Slap 4 mats in each of them. Invite the best 8 teams in 3 classes. Wrestle two pools of 4 per class and the winners of the pools wrestle for the state title. Its simple, its one location, it has meaning, it has several matches, and it declares a state champion. Basically it is worth changing a schedule for.
  16. Does anyone have the actual details of the new proposal? The coaches association has the chance to create a team series of thier liking and they come up with a rediculous purposal like this? Just class the tournament invite 8 teams a year and be done with it. If the IHSAA gives you a chance to grow the sport and you throw the opportunity away its your own fault. We need to get new people involved with the coaches association at its highest level if we throw this opportunity away. Heaven forbid we bring the 8 best teams down from a couple of classes and have an actually state tournament. Who cares if its the same teams each year if they are the best teams? Invite the best every year or don't have the tournament at all. By not having the best teams is just another tournament and it will draw small crowds and a lack of interest. So get your heads out of your butts and get something on the table that the state of Indiana actually wants to be a part of. If the Belmont duals is better wrestling then the state tournament then I for one will never attend.
  17. I have seen them all over the years and I was just wandering what do the coaches and public see the most.
  18. The coffee not kicking in may be your best arguement of the morning congrats.
  19. You are being silly now. Its not like if you have an extra 2000 kids in your school that you get an extra 20 entrants into the tournament. Size of a school does not matter in an individual tournament at all.
  20. Whats your point with the ammount of students comment? You should be looking at the ammount of entrants, thats all that matters. One sectional has 11 entrants per weight class and the other only has 8. Thats a big difference. Maybe not a huge deal, but well worth talking about.
  21. About damn time you give an honest answer. FYI I totally disagree with you, but thats ok you stayed on topic. You came along way with that post. I can't speak for anyone, but I would imagine this wastn't as much a gripe as it was a question. It doesn't make sense to have 3 more teams in one sectional then another. Whats wrong with having an even amount of teams per sectional. PS I would hope you would dominate the other sectional since you have an extra 42 entrants into sectionals. I really don't think it is a huge issue either, but its early in the season and I think its something worth talking about. I mean if we don't have topics like this then what does this board actually have.(answer- Nothing.)
  22. Y2 your kind of a baby for a grown man let alone a coach. Your behavior on this public forum is both disrespectful and it shows a distinct lack of class. I am sorry the kids or the coaches don't want class individual state, but pouting like a child and mocking an honest question shows a big charecter flaw. Grow up, you sound ignorant and its showing everyone just how stupid you can be. Promote your class wrestling on a different post let the big boys handle the real discussions of how to help the state of wrestling in Indiana.
