I know this isn't the College message area - but nobody was talking about it so I thought I would get it going on the Highschool board.

 

University of Indianapolis has 2 wrestlers in the championship - Alex Johns (Reitz) and J. Kieffer.  They also have 3 going for 3rd including Jeff Weiss (Heritage Hills).

WATERLOO, Iowa- Four of Head Coach Jason Warthan's Greyhound wrestlers will be making the trip to the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championships, one as a regional champion.

 

Alex Johns, Justin Kieffer, Cameryn Brady and Evan Wooding all earned trips to the national meet, finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes at the NCAA Division II Super Regional 3. The four qualifiers are the most ever from a Warthan-coached UIndy team, and the most the No. 16 Greyhounds have sent since four also qualified in 2008.

 

As a team, the Greyhounds finished tied for fourth with Maryville with a total of 72.5 points. St. Cloud State, via sending nine to the national meet, won the team race with 140.5 points, with host Upper Iowa takine second with 95.5 points.

 

No. 2 Johns took the 2013 NCAA Division II Super Regional 3 125-pound championship with a 5-1 win over St. Cloud State's Eric Forde. The top-seeded Johns (26-3) went 3-0 on the day en route to the title, pinning his first opponent before taking wins in the semis and finals via decision. The redshirt junior will make his second trip to the national meet, after qualifying in 2010.

 

Kieffer earned his first trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships via a second-place finish in the 141 bracket. Kieffer (17-9) was the bracket's No. 3-seed, and went 2-1 on the day. The sophomore pinned his first opponent, and bested the weight class' No. 2 seed, Matt Nelson of St. Cloud State, in the semifinals 4-3 to advance to the bracket championship. Kieffer fell 10-2 to top-seeded and #2 Trevor Johnson of Mary in the title match.

 

No. 4 Brady (17-3) punched his ticket for his first NCAA Division II national meet by taking third place in the 149 weight class, The two-time NCAA Division III national qualifier at Manchester  went 4-1 on the day as the bracket's two-seed, including a 7-6 win over Augustana's Nate Herda, the No. 3-ranked 149 pounder in DII, in the third-place match.

 

In the heavyweight class, four-seed Wooding (25-15) earned his trip to nationals with a fourth-place finish in the bracket. The junior went 3-2 through the weight class, falling to No. 4 James Malecheck of Wisconsin-Parkside via pin in the third/fourth place match.

 

Junior Jeff Weiss just missed qualifying, going 2-3 on the day at 165, losing in a true-fourth matchup. Shelby Mappes also earned a sixth-place finish for UIndy in the 174 weight class.

 

The 2013 NCAA Division II National Championships will take place in Birmingham, Ala., Mar. 8-9.
