Ode to a Wrestler

I had to write a Ode poem for my creative writing class and decided to make it to a wrestler.  We were told that are poem had to praise something that normally doesnt get praised.... What better than to a wrestler....

So I thought I would share it with the wrestling community.

Friday evening, bright illumination on fresh cut grass,

The whole town flocks like screaming seagulls to see the big game.

The  boy stands and shouts,

?Another touchdown!? He leaves third quarter.

He enters the musty room, puts down his bag,

Laces his red Reebok's, steps on the mat; and gets to work.

Dancing side to side like a gazelle, music, his coach, his comrade, his encourager.

He envisions a crowd that isn?t there.

He envisions screaming fans but does not here his name.

He envisions contenders winning, coaches yelling. None of this deters him.

He envisions Rocky, the Survivor, defeating his adversary

He envisions hearts crushed, dreams realized, prayers answered; he knows what must be done.

Saturday, early rise with sleepy eyes, cold water awakens him like a wave crashing it's shore.

A pound over weight, he sprints to the bus with the flavor of cotton mouth. Is today the day?

Arrives at the meet, sees his opponent, best in the state. Did he do enough?

On the  mat all alone, realizing his dream. Tweet! Whistle blows.
