2011 Curby Cup International Dual

Recommended Posts

The Jacob Curby Foundation is a charitable foundation dedicated to the advancement of Olympic-style international wrestling competition in the United States.  This will be accomplished by organizing, funding and conducting an annual competition between the United States National Team and the finest wrestlers from around the world.  This showcase competition will help develop America?s top wrestlers, promote the sport and cultural understanding, and be used as a vehicle to inspire our youngsters through their association with some of the greatest heroes of our sport.  The two main goals of our work are to provide top international competition for our elite wrestlers in the United States, and at the same time provide for youth development by reaching out to disadvantaged youngsters and involving them in our events.

Jacob Curby was a member of the United States National Greco-Roman Wrestling team when he suddenly passed away in 2010.  He had the good fortune to be introduced to wrestling early in life and adopt the traits he saw in his heroes as he too began to pursue his dream.  Jake displayed the hard work, physical prowess, mental toughness, and the ability to deal with adversity.  Jake?s pursuit of his dream was cut short, but the manner in which he conducted his short life is the inspiration for this foundation.  The Jacob Curby Foundation hopes to take his drive for competitive greatness and kindle and support the dream in others.  This will bring youngsters to a sport that can have such a positive effect and also help the sport at the highest level, and serve the needs of American elite athletes in international competition-our future Olympians and World Medalists.  At least 20% of the spectators who attend this annual event will consist of youngsters who are members of youth sports programs in disadvantaged areas.  www.curbycup.com
