statskeeper Posted May 1, 2010 Share Posted May 1, 2010 J. 'Fred' Tone, F.W. Bishop Dwenger H.S. Principal, and former head Wrestling Coach, is retiring from the Roman Catholic Diocese, Of Fort Wayne - South Bend, after serving a total of 42 years. Fred's last work day is Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Fred's tenure commenced in August, of 1968, when he was hired as a Social Studies Teacher, and an Assistant Football, Assistant Basketball, and Assistant Track coach. Fred, with the assistance of his own father, Thomas 'Tuck' Tone (deceased), had begun, the the first ever, Bishop Dwenger Wrestling program in October of 1973. Fred, as the Head Wrestling coach, served in that capacity for 21 seasons, and he is an inducted member of The Indiana Wrestling Coaches Association, Hall Of Fame. Under Fred's tutelage, the B.D. 'Saints Wrestling Team, had finished in 8th. place, at the IHSAA Wrestling State Finals of 1986. Fred also is an inducted member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame; an honor bestowed upon him, as an Assistant Football Coach during the tenure of Coach Andy Johns; where as a coaching team, The Bishop Dwenger 'Saint's won three Class 3A football State Championships. Jason Freiburger will be the celebrant. This reception will be free, and we hope you will join us FRED TONE'S RETIREMENT CELEBRATION AT CERUTI''S CATERING AND CELEBRATION FACILITY The Bishop Dwenger community is invited to attend a celebratory dinner in honor of Fred Tone's 42 years of service to the school on Friday, May 21st from 6-8:00 p.m. at Ceruti?s. That evening, we will be also accepting donations to the J. Fred Tone Scholarship Fund. All donations over the cost of the dinner are tax deductible. Scholarship donors will receive a memento of their gift to the scholarship fund.
