Monrovia

Monrovia?s Bulldogs hosted ?Tuesday night at the Fights? against the rival Mooresville Pioneers. It may have been bitter cold outside, but the Pioneers were red hot on the mat.

The Pioneers took the Bulldogs by storm, with a final tally of 72-5.

The inexperience and youth of the Monrovia team was evident with the number of falls (10) taken out against the Bulldogs.

?The team just wrestled scared,? said Monrovia coach Todd Fakes. ?They saw how well Mooresville wrestled at the Classic.

?Mooresville has a lot of experience under their belt, and there is a lot to say for experience.?

Mooresville coach Zach Errett was happy with the effort shown by his team.

?We won our last three dual meets and hope to carry over this momentum when we go to our conference meet at Franklin on Saturday,? he said.

Mooresville freshman Jake Swigert pinned Patrick Hollcraft in 1:57 in the 103-pound weight class.

The 112 class was won by decision, 15-8, going to Mooresville?s Rhonda Pryor. The senior wrestled freshman Alex Voss, who showed capability, even though he was outmanned in years and weight.

Jacob Lannan, wrestling at 119, pinned Austin Cecil in 1:54.

At 125, Pioneer Damon Martin won his match by a 6-3 decision against Kevin Giza.

Monrovia?s Tanner Sizemore was out due to injury, so Brandon ?Ace? Gardiner wrestled the 140 weight class in his place. Mooresville?s Gavin Douglas got a run for his money with the JV wrestler, but won the match by pin in 3:50.

Mooresville continued to win by fall at 135, this by Stuart Tollison.

Monrovia?s only came from sophomore Dalton Clements by technical fall (15-0).

The fastest pin of the night went to Mooresville?s 152-pound sophomore, Joey Juliano, who needed just 58 seconds.

The pioneers also took the 189 and 215 classes with respective pins by Todd Hacker in 1:26 and Evan Wooding in 1:28.

Monrovia will also be going to conference Saturday, traveling to the West-Central Conference bash at Cloverdale.
