MattM, thanks for posting those results. Imagine MD wrestling against THAT line-up, and giving up a total of only 5 bonus points . . . (and no pins!)
And then MD getting 18 bonus points themselves . . .
The strategy of maximizing your own bonus points, while not giving up many, sounds simple, but the top programs capitalize on that. (And none better than MD back in the day)
Franklin's team last year did that very effectively . . .
-
Not only did the 2003 MD team have 4 state champs, but they had 3 others who lost to Escobedo, Hernandez and Tsirtsis at state (and Macke didn't lose to Escobedo by much . . .)
While I am not one of the MD faithful, the depth of that team was unbelievable.
With the aid of a time machine, I guess it might be interesting to get that team and whatever other all-time great team (other than another MD team) together to face off.
(But the other team would also have to factor in the effect of the gym being packed full of hard-headed Germans from the west side of Evansville, all decked out in MD colors . . .)

Jacob Stevenson has 1,078 yards in 6 games, averaging almost 8 yds per carry, with 18 TDs.
-
Hopefully both Franklin and Cathedral make it into the final round at the Traicoff, allowing Stevenson and Rypel to wrestle.
-
Hard to guess which one out of this motley crew would be in their versions of Nike commercials and/or on Wheaties boxes . . .

Is the "Don't eff this one up, boys" part of the "loving faith filled atmosphere", or part of the "comes together as family", or both . . . ?

Sorry, I forgot to properly segue back to Falcon Crest . . .

The IndianaMat team race breakdown was excellent, for those who haven't seen it yet. Thanks to those who put all that effort into it. Great job!

If anyone other than Franklin wins the team title , it will show how flawed this system is . Franklin has already proven they are the best team in Indiana this year . Cathedral has 6 very good wrestlers , but a wrestling team is made up of 14 wrestlers , that is why the Irish have 3 dual losses .
What a classy post. Thank you.
The five Franklin wrestlers that take the mats tomorrow night (along with the other nine Franklin varsity kids that won't), are all Franklin guys, although Petrole's family moved in from New Jersey in middle school or earlier, I believe.
(Although New Jersey would seem to be too long of a distance to recruit, I DID see someone from Blair Academy at the Evansville semi-state. Hmmmmm . . . )
So, win or lose, it will be done with Franklin kids. And that is a good feeling . . .
Good luck to all the teams still in the running for the IHSAA trophy.

I woke up this morning still feeling the pain of my sons first round loss at regionals knowing the mental toll it is taking on him knowing he is the only one on his team that didn't advance to semi-state.
this being the second year in a row and numerous times the last 2 years being the guy on the bubble.
I set here with thoughts in my head...how does he keep going.
He spends the day devestated in tears and the first thing he's says to me in the mourning is dad will you take me to a tournament today so I can help out.
Shame on me me for questioning why he keeps going.
It's what he does...I realize he's got more heart than me.
as I set here choking back tears feeling like the proudest dad in the world.
the thought comes to me I have a pretty special kid.
Hang in there buddy...I'm proud of you

Dont forget you can't count out the Irish, there are some who may even guarantee an Irish victory. If they have their full line up of course.
;D

McCarty over Reese 2-0. 37-19 final.
-
Red over Wilkerson 10-0. 37-16
-
Smith wrestled Starks and won 11-3. Franklin up 37-12 at 120 now with 26 to go.
-
Looks like they are starting at 132.

Interesting to read the different responses to this initial post.
I'm just glad that evidently out of the ones who read it, and certainly out of the ones who responded, none seemed to make any inference in any way, shape or form that Cathedral wasn't going to win at Bankers . . .
'Cause if they had, this thread would have exploded to 8 pages by now . . .

What a great post!

Dual starts at 6:30.
Kudos to both teams for scheduling a dual between two highly ranked teams, this late in the season, mid-week . . .
Should be a great match!

Would you please re-post the link?
Thanks

No problem...it's a composite of the entire schedule--not just the top teams. In other words, you may wrestle the top 5 teams in the state and then wrestle the bottom 5 teams in the state. The end result is that you would have only a so-so SOS. Franklin's 57.5 (a very high SOS, ranked #11) means that their most normal opponent has a rating of about that 57.5 level.
Thank you, and thank you especially for stating your response in layman's terms. Had you even MENTIONED the word "derivative", my eyes would have crossed . . .

Absolutely not a complaint (just trying to understand how this works a little better) . . .
I would think that Franklin's strength of schedule would be higher than it is. They defeated 7 teams who were in the top 10 when they wrestled (Mater Dei, Perry, Yorktown, Warren, Portage, Crown Point and Cathedral) along with a dual coming up (which I realize wasn't counted) against an 8th team, New Pal (also in the top 10), in addition to the Mater Dei Holiday Classic.
Again, not questioning your results, just interested in how all of that factors in to their strength of schedule ranking.
Thanks for your response and your efforts.
