  1. The community of Avon along with the Avon Wrestling Club would like to thank the ISWA and all that attended this weekend. We are a very proud Community and Club. With this said, we do realize that it is hard to do away with tradition (the fairgrounds), just as it was hard to say good bye to Tech (for those who wrestled there as youths).  We hope that we can continue to host this event, and begin a new tradition for Indiana youth. I assure you that in the future that we will do everything (within reason) to make this event the best that it can be.

I would also like to thank the high school kids, high school parents, club parents, club kids, and members of other clubs that helped out for many long hours this weekend.

Congratulations to the 17 Freestyle State Placers, which live within our community.

  2. Great job to all. The kids had a blast (so did the parents). Also congrats to Indiana Gold and coach Bailey. Gold allowed Little David Marcum (Avon) to into the 45 pound spot for Gold (Thank You!). It was awesome to see both Indiana teams rooting for eachother and hanging at night.

We lost two heart breakers in pool play against Inferno and Florida (could have went either way). I was very pleased with the effort on the mat, and even more please with the sportsmanship of the kids.

I would like to acknowledge Nathan Conley (Avon). He was our 80, but broke his elbow before the duels. Get well little buddy. Thanks for stepping up Krintz.

I hope that all made it home safely. Thank you to all parents and coaches for your dedication. I look forward to next year.

  4. A couple of our club kids had a chance to preview this movie and really enjoyed it................but I agree a little Sheen tiger blood would have been awesome! They could have named it WINNER WINNER, and Sheen could have really gave that kid a good slap!

  5. The Avon Wrestling Club would like to congratulate the 15 state placers from Kids State that live within our school district. This is down one from last year, but included 4 state champs and two runners up this year! The hard work is paying off and the future looks bright.

Several others came up short of the medals, but a great effort by all.

Thank you the the high school staff (Israel Blevins and Kyle Meunier) / middle school staff (Lee Harris) that were there with the little ones all day. Also thank you to the academy coaches from (CIA, Red Cobra, and Contenders) that have supported the youth with in our community.

We would also like to thank the ISWA and the BD staff for a good day of wrestling. This was a great way to end the folkstyle season.

We look forward to seeing all of you, at our place in May for Freestyle!

  6. Look forward to wrestling tomorrow. With this said, there are 3 state champs in my sons bracket. ALL THREE are on the same side! LOL  ;D Owell I guess that he will make the best of it and try hard as possible. The seperation deal may need tweeked, but you must wrestle the best to win it all! This is the same in many other brackets.

  7. This is really a rough event for spectators...there is no denying that. Set an example for the local tournaments and split the sessions by AM (pee wee/Bantam) and PM (intermediate/novice).

Another idea for alleviating the congestion inside the fieldhouse would be to use Matside pairings. That would at least give you the opportunity to set up camp outside the gym and fieldhouse as you would have an idea of how much time you have between matches.

As stated in an earlier post, this will be a two day event next year. So there will be no need for an AM and PM after this years state. There were just unforeseen circumstances that led to the two gym scenerio this year.

Typically the matches are numbered, so you can kind of follow when it is that your wrestler will be up. Go by the number printed on the brackets in the hall. However, towards the end (placement matches) you will need to stay on your toes.

  8. OK my question was not to stir up a riot against ISWA! I am willing to help with whatever I can. I now however have a new question how did almost 200 kids register after pre-reg closed??? So am I to think that 961 people with about 3500 people in total are going to fit into the field house? I have a safety concern. There is a limit to that  gym by the fire marshall. Are you going to limit the # of spectators? Also from another saefty aspect and having coordinated big events (cheerleading and twirling comps) This is a fight waiting to happen too many people on top of eachother, the heat the competition. I know there isn't much that can be done with the venu or the days and I am not complaining but I fear for mine and my son's safety with that many people in one gym and I am sure the fire marshall will not be pleased, God forbid something happens

The facility is the best available. The ISWA has done a great job. There will be 10 mats in the fieldhouse (same as every other year). So that area we be the same. The main gym is a monster. There will be plenty of room to sit there also. There may be a few more people in the hallways camping out. The last time that they tried this they used the freshman gym, which was located far from the fieldhouse. The main gym is much closer. True, if you have two or more kids (like I do) it may be tough to go between gyms. If you have more than 1 kid, make sure each has a responsible person to get them to the mat.

We need to keep this as positive as possible. And keep the kids in mind. We have all been to crowded venues in our lifetimes. I am sure that some of us have been to some much more crowded then that which we will be in tomorrow. A fight can happen anywhere. Why bring this up? We all know (as adults) that there will be police there and if you fight you may go to jail. Plain and simple, I trust the fine folks at the ISWA and at Ben Davis. We all should have a little faith and a lot of patience.

As far as registrations. Again, the ISWA did an awesome job. As I was working late into the night. I continued to check the numbers. The registration ended right on time. 12:59 am (our Time).

Again, lets all stay positive and do our parts as parents to not stir the pot and to make the best tournament possible for the kids. Thank God for the ISWA and the fine folks who have stepped  up to host this tourney at BD. My hat is off to you. NOW LETS WRESTLE!

  9. We are looking for a dedicated family to join our team for the AAU National Duels in Kingsport, Tenn. on April 15th - 17th. The cost is $130 for gear.
