  1. In terms of my team: Last I check a few of my guys (like a few others teams guys) did do well head to head at the duals, and they aren't on his list either.  So it looks like they aren't being given much credit by others,  since I have said nothing specifically about my team.  But, this type of stuff is always good Bullitin Board reading material to motivate a few of them.   As for the rest of my team they will need to step up a heck of a lot more if they want to do well at HHCs based on their dual results.  Just like several other wrestlers in the HHC will have to do the same based on their results so far.  Everyone who watch HHC duals knows this, the coaches know it, and the kids know it too.  My guys have been working hard and doing what is needed to improve on their HHC dual results.  However, we will have to wait and see if they have worked hard enough to earn some of that credit back in a few week.

As for me, I'm not here to hype my team or talk down on another team or individual.  I don't need hype anyone on my team every chance I get on here.  They know how I feel and they will get the credit they earn on the mat.  I'll leave all that individual and team "hype" and "trash talk" to someone else who feels they need to do that .   I hope all of these wrestlers in the HHC understand they have to step on the mat and earn the credit they deserve not just accepting someone message board hype as being "credit."  I know Coach Struck  and most of the other HHC coaches well enough to know that they would  have a very similar stance on that one, c-red.

As I pointed out though the best way to determine who should do well at this event is head to head competition since that is how we seed everyone for the event anyway.  If a better way exists please bring it up to the Conference so we can rewrite the way we seed the HHC duals.  However as I have already mentioned "that is the best way to determine who SHOULD do well."  Should do well does not mean that is what automatically will occur.  If placement was just based on seeding (i.e. what should happen) then why bother wrestling this event in the first place.

  2. While a agree there are a few changes that will effect weight classes, I don't think their will be as many as you seem to indicate.  Their are several people that did extremely well on the duals that you don't even have as the third best in the same weight class.  Head to head competition still is the best way to determine who should do well at HHCs and plenty of those matches did occur at the duals.

  3. Semi-state rankings done by a different person so the rankings may very slightly depending on the information that is present and to the person doing the rankings.  If two wrestlers are almost dead even on information and have not meet head to head it would come down to the gut feeling of the person doing the rankings which could be different from person to person.  We will see for sure where they really rank in about 4-6 weeks.

  4. I guess the question is do you rank this based on:

    A.  Which semi-state just produces the most state champs.

    B. Which semi-states top 4 (per weight class) would do the best in state.

    C. Which semi-state has the most depth (per weight class) from the first round on.

By the way the original post is made "toughest semi-state"  this says to me choice C (or at least B).  In other words which semi-state would a person have the hardest time making it even past the first or second round in because of the depth of talent in every weight class.  Not just which semi-state ends up having the most champions after state is over.

To answer that question would take a much more indepth look at the entire semi-state worth of top wrestlers.

  5. Who will Jake be fighting?  And what is the deal with UFC?  First they want him to fight, then they release him and now they sign him again.  Dana White seems like a nice fella bag to me.

Based on Jakes last few preformances Dana probably didn't see him as a big enough player for the contract they had with him.  Because of that Dana dropped Jake then offers to take him back later for a lesser contract deal.  This has been the case with several fighters over the last few years.  Since the UFC is basically it in the big time fight game these fighters either take hte lesser deal or go to a different organization which probably wont offer them anything better.  Obviously if Jake rebounds well and has some impressive wins the UFC may up his contact when it is up.

  6. so cash is the beat of the year...over Brandon wright..8-6 OT...over Jason tsirts 4-3..over D'Marcus 9-11 OT..and over D'Marcus 9-10 both times spencer was up by 5 and cash turned on the beast mode...over Josh Harper 2-1

He's the man of the hour around that weight, but we will see if he can run the gauntlet again come state tournament time.  One thing is for sure, if most if not all of them stay in the same weight class who ever emerges the winner will have had one of the best state runs in IHSAA history.

  7. Triple-B said he wanted to be sure to include the Holiday wrestling events into the rankings so he is waiting a few more day to post them.  The previous ones would have been out a week back if he didn't get stuck at his inlaws that do not have the luxery of internet access.

  8. The Floyd boys found a way to at the HHC meet, so we can see that they have it in them.  We will have to see at the HHC tourny which team is currently better suited to grind it out in a tournament style format.  That day may be a telling sign to what we may see come sectionals for these two teams.

  9.   " Scoring points and bonus points on top of that will be a factor in who wins. "   ::)

I never knew you had to score more points than the other guy to win.  Thanks for clearing that up

Sorry I guess I have to clarify the post since I wasn't talking about match scoring but the advacenment and bonus points you can get in a tournament which some kids lose sight of once they are eliminated from the winners bracket.   You look at the reason a team wins a close sectional race the bonus points they gain from majors, tech falls, and pins in the winners bracket as well as wrestleback (over just winning a match by a regular decsion) usually is the factor that stands out.   In other words the Floyd and Jeff kids can't lose sight of the ultimate goal of a sectional team title even if they get eliminated from the winners bracket.   To many kids see this as time to give up and wrestle the rest of the event in a daze just squeeking out wins or even losing close matches.   If a kid isn't completely focused on wrestling their best in the wrestleback rounds of sectionals then they may be costing their team valuable bonus points that could be the difference.

  10. In many cases I would agree that if you have a goal to be a state champion or a multi-state champion it would benifit you to focus on just one sport or maybe two at the most.  Most of these kids just are not super athletes that can handle multiple sports at an elite level though a few do exist.  It would be great if teenagers could make up their mind logically and actually realize what they want to do plus understand how to that place at a young age.  That would make your last statment much easier to figure out.   However, as we know that usually is a hard thing to determine with the way teenagers think and act.  Some of them by the time they hit high school are still testing the water at what they are good.  Plus even if they say they want to be state champs in one sport we all know many will change their mind or their work out habits wont live up to their dreams by the time they finish.  It really just depends on the individual and if they are mature enough to understand all that is involved in the decisions they make and the and goals they are setting for themselves.

  11. The only shot you have of another weight class around the 215-285 weight range anytime soon is if they reorganized several of the weight classes.  They will probably never add another weight class because of the reseasons mentioned.  However, I do think their may come a day in which they  reorganize  the weights.   If this reorganization involves the upper weights they may just space those weight classes out in a way that helps to relieve some of the weight gap we currently have between 171-189-215-285.

  12. If the kid can correctly handle being a multi-sport athlete and likes doing that then by all means let them have it.  Some of the kids get involved in others sports to just prevent getting burned out by just one.  If the kids want to focus on just one activity and seems to enjoy it all year round then thats fine too.  It has to be the kids decision if he/she thinks its worth it to just focus on becoming a stud in one sport or if they would rather be involved in multiple sports knowing that it may hinder their progress in their best sport.  Athletics are very unpredictable though.  Sometimes kids have to just focus on one activity in order to eventually become great at it and other times you get those rare athletes that seem just be naturals at any sport they get involved in. As long as its the kids decision in what to get involved in, they are trying their best and enjoying it, and they are not getting burned out then let them do what they are doing.

  13. Floyd still has a good team and they proved it at the HHC meet.  I figured the Jeff/Floyd match would end up being a battle but Floyd opened it up and proved they are a team to beat.  Reguardless of some of their pitfalls this season they obviously have a team that contend for the sectional title.   Y

You can not count Jeff out of Sectionals either with the talent loaded and determined roster that they have.  Struck knows how to prepare his team for big events and will be sure to have them focused come sectionals.  I'm sure the will have the Floyd match from the HHC meet in the  back if their mind during the HHC tourny as well as sectionals.

Many of you are over looking the fact that this is not a dual meet to determine sectional champs but a tournament.  The sectional title will probably end up coming down to two things.

1.The outside factors of what other teams studs take out either a Floyd or Jeff kid.  The other teams getting points that could have been either Jeff or Floyds will be a big factor in the outcome.

    2.  How both these teams kids bounce back in the wrestleback rounds if they are eliminated from the championship bracket.  Some kids seem to lose focus and if they are not going for the title just stop wrestling.  However, in a close race like this one it will come down to advancement point as well as bonus points in the wrestlebacks too.   Scoring points and bonus points on top of that will be a factor in who wins.  Even the 5th/6th match will be huge for either team if they also can pull of a few bonus points in them, as well.   Obviously the seeding will do a lot in determining which of these two teams has an advantage, but it doesn't necessarily mean everything if you can't wrestle to your seed or above it.

This should be a sectional to follow this year and the new criteria for which team advances just adds more pressure to both team to preform to their upmost ability.

  14. 130: Josh Harper (Mishawaka), Will Sheets (Bellmont), Cashe Quiroga (Lawrence North), Frankie Porras (Hobart)........all advance to semi's...

Look for this to be the best semi-final you see until state in a few months.   The crowd will sure be into these two matches.

  15. As of lately the "there" doesn't even really exist to be at even if someone wanted to be.  The IHSWCA site has two feet in the grave and the casket closing at this current time.  Until they can find someone with a little more tech savy skills to keep it up and running and updated correctly this site is basically the only place you will find any informatoion on the complete state of Indiana's wrestling status.

  16. It's mostly a result of convience more than anything I think.   The voters probably don't keep to much track of whats happening in the state other than their area.  Because of that they rely on past state results and perennial top teams for the rest of their votes.  That does not explain all the rankings, but I would say it explains how many of the coaches vote.  Unless you are constantly looking into information and collectiong data (i.e.  people like Y2) you probably are a little oblivious to what is happening with many of the states teams outside of your area.

The team rankings have mostly been that way in the past several years, not a recent occurance.   I would say that it's not really a results of the IHSWCA's lack of web management, as it is the polled coaches not spending tons of time looking for the results of most teams in the state.

If you ask me the us vs. them thing is getting a little tired.   Not specifically the Y2 statement above, but those who are full out trashing the old board just for being the old board.  Yeah the IHSWCA doesn't have a working message board now and those who run it do not have a lot of web knowledge, but everyone was more than happy to frequnent the site for several years without an major complaint about it.  Just because we have a brand new shinny board with tech savy opperators and internet researching guru's doesn't mean we should completely trash the one site that helped bring Indiana wrestling together in tehe first place.  I for one like and thank the IHSWCA for all they have done and still do for the sport in Indiana.  If anything I thank them for paving the way and bringing everyone together.  I also feel sorry for them that they were not able to find the time to opperate the board or the and technical skills needed to maintain the site as well as they would hope it can be ran.   Yeah they could outsource the running of the site, but then they would be giving up much of the control they feel needs to be maintained in order to run an unbias organization which purpose is to help the wrestling coaches of indiana with issues.  The IHSWCA provided the  message boards and with it rankings just as a side project of their actual purpose of helping coaches and the sport.  It's fine to say this site is one of the best sites for information about Indiana wrestling.  Howver, some people are just blatently trashing the old site just because it did not offer as much content and that really accomplishes little in helping further the sport.

I also thank this site for picking up where the IHSWCA site has left off and continueing to bring Indiana wrestling information to all of us in bigger and better way.
