  1. The biggest issue is finding a school that is willing, adequate in size, and also capable of running the event smoothly.  If a few school that meet those specifications volunteer it wouldn't be to hard to actually have the coaches and ADs of that area vote on where they would want to have the sectional or regional for the following year.  Then in the event of a close vote (one or two votes seperating each school) they could agree to easily alternate between the two sites.   But that would mean some schools giving up their long standing stronghold on the event and that would ruffle a few feathers to say the least.

  2. Actually the first time I wrote it I did say the part about the alternate being from the same sectional as the winner.  Then I re-evaluated it (my edit which as you see happens often on here as I get more thoughts going through my head) and thought another workable and maybe more fair solution in the event of a "seed tie" could be to take the person eliminated by the highest placer.  I felt that may reward the wrestler who had the toughest competition on that day over the person who happened to just be from the same sectional.  I'm not sure which one I really like more or at least which one would end up having the best wrestlers advance.  It's really probably 50/50 for each weightclass.

No big deal FF.  Like I said I'm more concern about someone taking this to the IHSAA as a workable solution for both regional and semi-state than I am finding out who should get credit for it.  Odd are someone came up with the same or similar idea several years back and it just had no reason to get implemented until the recent advancement change.

  3. I don't think we need to make sectionals any larger than they currently are though it would allow for regional to be cut and a jump straight to a semi-state.  I currently feel the regional event with two sectionals combining and one win allows you to advance is a little simplistic in its current form.  My solution would be finding a better way to organized regionals from its current form.

  4. Actually daveclouds is a little different, note each tiebreaker solution. Could go either way but overall both suggestions are better than current alternate decider.

I thoughts thats what I said though I gave two different solutions for the alternate. If two eliminated wrestlers started with the same high "seed" in regional or semi-state I suggested they either:   1. advance the person eliminated by the highest placer  or 2. advance the person from the winners sectional.  Heck call it the Dave Cloud rule or the indianamat.com ammendment, but either way it would be nice to get something similar to this in palce by next year.

  5. Truthfully I don't need the name recognition but thanks just the same.  I just would like to see something a little more fair than the current setup be put in place to help get the best quality alternate in event he is actually needed.  I will give you a wahoo for the complementary bown nosing though.

  6. Whats the chances of getting something like that or similar put in place by next year.  I think it will at least be acceptable to most people as a good way (though never 100% perfect) to picking the alternate without wrestlebacks.  Now if we could just get it called the MattM rule amendment we would be set.  :)

  7. I guess a obscure variable of this question would be:

Does some spring sport coaches allow athletes to participate in spring wrestling in some way when it does not conflict with their sports schedule?

A yes answer would slightly skew the data you are looking for.

  8. At least we know he can eat a few punches and not completely be lost in the cage.  He does need to find a way to stop some basic punches with something other than his face if he want to keep moving up to better competition.  The MMA game is still new to him so hopefully he will continue to work and adapt if he want to keep with it.

I guess with a chin like that, we shouldn't expect anything less.

    Nice.  Worthy of a whaoo.

  9. I posted earlier that the Jay County Sectional had a Sectional alternate who will also be the Semi-State alternate, just because he was inserted against the other Sectional champion, who also won the regional.  I'm no in favor of wrestlebacks, but an alternate method does need to implemented at regional.

That could be somewhat common unless the system was slightly adjusted in some way.  Hopefully the powers that be will recognize the error in this since the qualifications for semi-state have changed.

  11. Easy solution for an alternate, without having wrestle-backs, would be making it the highest sectional placer eliminated in round one.  In the event their are two eliminated that that placed the same in sectional the one that was either eliminated by the highest placer or the one from the winners sectional should be the the first alternate.  I don't see as big of an issue with the semi-state alternate but as similar idea could also work at that level.  The highest eliminated regional placer would be the state alternate.  In the event of a tie (which their would certainly be at semi-state) the one who was eliminated  by the higher semi-state placer becomes the first alternate.

This would somewhat award a wrestler for placing high in the previous event but having the misfortune of getting a tough draw at that event.  Currently we just pick the person eliminated by the champion even though he proabably was not the most deserving wrestler based on his previous results.  Obviously alternates have little overall impact on the tournament but its seems a little more fair to try and get the best alternate available (as unbaisly as possible) in the event someone does drop out.

  12. I know Mishawaka has a hell of a 103 pound back-up to throw in at 112, but if Beck is out, that is significant. Hmm.

The beauty of the team competition is that is shows the true strenght of the entire school team.  Mish having a great group of back-up wrestlers will serve the well not only preparing for the event but give them options for wrestling in the team state competition, as well.

  13. If you have never been to team state it is worth trying.  People who have not attended are missing out on something great.  It really highlight what wrestling is as a team sport.  You got to love the energy of having every single match feel like the spotlight match of the meet.  I like it as much as the individual state finals.

  14. 3 pounds makes sence since they're back to 2 on saturday... what happens if someone that made the top for already doesn't make weight? i know he forfiets down to 2nd or 4th but can he still wrestle at regionals? I hope this isn't an issue though

If you don't make weight in the team part the team would have to forfeit that weight for the meet unless they have a JV that is certified to wrestle at that spot.

If you don't make weight in the individual part you are out of the entire tournament.  The other qualifiers from that group move up.  The 5th place wrestlers takes the last spot if he is on weight and at the weigh-ins.  The 6th place wrestler would be the next in line if he is also on weight and at weigh-ins.  This doesn't occur very often but has on occasion.

It it two seperate events at that point though so not making weight at one does not eliminate you from the other.

  15. This situation with SD adds another good argument for having the team series after (or before) the individual series.

Problem is it also adds another good argument for the IHSAA to say team states not worth the hassle of having.  But I would hope they don't get that dramatic about it.

  16. No such thing at team semi-state anymore.  They finish up both rounds of the team competition to decide to goes to state on the same night.  So they can always bump back team regionals to sometime next week (which may be the case now) and finished up individual sectionals before this weekend.  That gets everything back on tracks and would just slightly effect those participating in this particular team regional.  I guess we will find out later today what will actually occur.  At this point they may still try to have the South Dearborn sectional late this evening as scheduled unless we get another round of snow today.
