I always like it when they find someone who have made strides with their program instead of just the winning teams coach to recieve these type of awards.

Also, I love the GEM from Quint that he posed to Ness after he won. "So, why did you hug your dad?"......seriously, that was pathetic.
Yeah I was dumbfounded by that question too. He easily had 100 different way to ask how Ness what his family means to this championship rather than to just ask why you would huge your own dad.

does anybody know if the r streaming the semi's online? i am in KYRGYZSTAN, and dont have access to ESPNU
Kyrgyztan they don't have much access to anything there. Maybe be on ncaa.com but not sure.

I have a question for everyone. Pucillo and Miller both finished 2nd last year. Pucillo was the 2008 ncaa champion. Miller beat Pucillo in the pigtail match then goes on to lose his next match. if these two end up AA then they will have wrestled approx. 6 to 8 matches. anyways, is it parity on college wrestling or did these two already hit their peak?
I think its called crazy. Come prepared or go home I guess is the rule of the day.

Mocco moving over to Big 12 for this one though he spent most of his time in Big 10

Good old Greg Warren wrestled at Mizzu and wrestled for his dad in high school. He had several wrestling related bits if you haven't heard his comedy before. Henry Phillips (guitar) has some good comedy routines as well though not wrestling related.

On more than one occasion during state I've stepped in and coached a really young kid I didn't know who didn't have a coach that just happened to be up right after my guy. It's usually the same story. The kids looks lost, confused, and worried. The mom is yelling from behind the barrier to try and help him, but she really can't. The people around us just want to get started after a long wait to wrestle. Just having a person there to guide them causes the kid to change from worried to ready to wrestle and that is enough to make a big difference in their preformance. Becuase of that I would hope any coach in a similar situation (with time) would also step up and help a young kid out if the parent was needing it from behind the barrier.
To me I agree it would be best the younger kids if you could at least try and wait on a coach for a match or two before having the kid wrestle without one. At the young ages some of these kids are so single minded and stuck on routine that not having a coach show up is more than enough to have them not want to wrestle. I don't believe you should keep waiting forever, but it would be nice to hold off a few matched and get someone to try and locate a coach for that age.
In a perfect world I would love to see a way the ISWA would allow one parent/chaperone to be allowed to enter the gate and go matside at state with each novice or younger wrestler with or without a coaches card. I think the coaches card rule was originally designed to try and get only responsible adults at matside to aviod problem. However, that obviously is not always the case.

I haven't really thought much about the issue. What is the reasoning behind not letting kids transfer?
It suppose to be about the education integrity of the schools systems educaitonal goal over the athletic oppertunities it provides. Because of the new educational setup of Indiana schools student are now allowed to more freely move school systems. However, the IHSAA still want to ensure the point for students, parents, and the school system itself is educationally driven not athletics. If it was the other way around and sport are driving the schools (even more than now) it would basically unravel the whole point of the education system. THe IHSAA will not allowed you to participate in sports at the new school for a year if it is proven the main reason you transfered was for a sports oppertunity not an education one. Your previous school has to sign off on the new school tranfer being OK in order for the IHSAA athletic rule to not take effect. However, lawyers and parents have found ways to get around this situation in some instances.

By looking at the names on the Flo Wrestling web site this is going to be as tough as Fargo. And the colleges showing up is pretty impressive.
I think the point of the creating the event was to basically be a Senior Nationals Competition without the grade groupings. I would say if anything it would draw in many Freshman-Junior studs who would rather show they can beat some very solid Seniors instead of just kids in their grade.

Sorry. I jump the gun I was thinking the seeding registration had passed since I noticed this video up awhile ago. However, after watching it again it does say March 22nd. So Indiana guys still do have some time (though not much) to get their name in of they want and try to be be seeded.
-
These guys should get seeded well so they don't have to wrestle all three days.
Well the Seed invites were sent out awhile ago. Many of them went to the top names at each weight class, as well as, kids who one other major high school wrestling events (the ones we can't travel to). So I'm not sure from Indiana who actually got the seeding invites. If they didn't get an invite or reply back in time they then are thrown back into the big bracket that start on day 1.

I love the Puler system and actually brought a few guys down to a weekend camp ant Evansville a few years ago. I would be pushing my kids to go there all the time if it was anyplace within an hour of Seymour. However, Evanville is just way too far away.
We have a smaller one mat facility with weight room (seperate from our high school open mat) we are running out of a Seymour MMA school off US31 for the freestyle season. It is for middle and high school kids currently. The land has plenty of room to expand into a major training facility and the owner would love more than anything to have a training complex for combat sports of all kinds. But bring in the number of kids (and MMA guy during the other days) and have solid coaches needed to build and sustain such a site would be a big worry to the guy who runs it would have. If that all fell into place he would start building on tomorrow. At this point talks were to hopefully make the current facility into a a possible year round training facility if the interest remained strong but with only a handful of middle school kids this year even thats a big if for the near future. However, I do think we could have some parents intersted in Seymour if the distance and cost was right. Seymour is currently working on developing a half or full year round elementary system with multiple teams from our schools and other interested kids in the area. So the development would be there for something after the elementary age in the near future.
Now the pesamistic part of things. I know in the past we have also talked to others in the area about a colaborative RTC type practice but nothing really developed from that. One issue I think the old Columbus RTC had was lack of number from other schools. I see some of this due to the main wrestling schools being so spread out in our area. This is probably a big reason why no one else started a southern RTC and places like CIA hasn't tried to have a southern branch as of yet. I hate to say it but even the top guys want to drive less than an hour train even if its against other top guys. So convencing those boarder line dedicated guys to start making that type of trip is hard. Obviously until something was established that would be hard to do. Unfortunately their isn't to many places for a centralized facility that is less than an hour away from most people. After Seymour you don't see to much (unless Skinner want to build a state of the art facility in Scottsburg) until you get the the Indiana boarder. Then from there not much until you get to Evanville area. I'd love to have a nice facility here but having the coaches and the number is where the issue happens. The other issues becomes cost. If its to cheap they place may not be able to run and to high it may drive to many people off. Its hard to get even top guys to spend a large sum of money on an unestablished place. Thus its even harder to get the boarder line guys to give it a shot. With both of these isues you can overcome some of uncertanty by local coaches pushing kids to try it or having a bigger name coach running it that has creditials enough to bring people in.

Being there are 3-4 major HS rankings done each years it kind of hard to keep track of who all was ranked at what spot. Aside from a few super studs the rankings tend to be all over the place.
Indiana get a little hurt in the national rankings by not being allowed to attend the out of state big name competitions and also by some of our studs not always attenting the out of season major events.

Finished HS at 125, so no place to go but up I guess. I hover around 160-170 these day which isn't to bad.

Is there a link to see all the competitors that have signed up?
http://www.flowrestling.org/articles/view/1781-Flonationals-Registration-Update
I'm not sure who they have given prior seeding preference too or if they are part of this list but here is what they have so far.
I saw a few names from Italy on there so I'm not sure if they opened it up internationally or we have a few jokesters signing names up.
I happened to noticed that Brandon Nelson is now signed up as well.

125 - I believe Angel beat Robles last year for 3rd, so I don't think the strength will be a factor.
141 - I actually don't think it matters what seed Hump got. He's going to be ready to roll and I expect him to stand atop the podium.
165 - I think Howe got a good draw. The bottom-half of the bracket is much tougher in my opinion.
Angel lost in the Consols to Person and then beat Sanders (who he beat earlier) to finish 5th. He did not wrestle Robles last year but did beat him 2 years ago on the way to the title.

March 26-28th
Freshman through Seniors competing together. With top wrestlers from around the country given seeds and not wrestling until the later days of the event.

Our spring break start on Friday. About half of our wrestlers will be gone with family, happens every year. What is the procedure to get a waiver to wrestle at the Folkstyle Nationals if you can't wrestle at State?
Indiana is the only state that does this. It has been said that the waivers will be approved.
I would have to agree Spring Break is not helping the situation much, but they don't have many other option of a time to have the event. I wouldn't mind the event being held a little more centralized too, but that may be something that can be worked on for the future.

Is there anyone else that has made it to state 4 times and not placed??
Yes there was but I can't recall who. It was discussed after Miller fell into that same spot.

People tend to find a job they can get the first time around and then go for a job they want (if thats not it) the next time. So in most cases I would expect people to move around in jobs. If they are a lay coach they may move to a new coaching position because the city and the job they are moving to is better for them than their original job was. Coaches/teachers tend to start as a small school more because that is the place where jobs open up more as other teacher move to a new job. That next job is usually the one they wanted which could be because of location to home, pay raise, former school loyalty, a child education, moving up to head coach or other coaching options available. Sure some wrestling head coaches move around to bigger or other small schools because of the wrestling oppertunity presented but I would say that is only a portion of the reason.

I again believe B to be the best option.
It increase 103 slightly but without making a huge jump. This will help fill that weight class more but will not hurt some of the smaller member of the wrestling community.
It keeps a good even gap between the middle weight which we need since that is where most of the wrestling community is weight wise.
It distributes the upper weights better and add less of a gap at the end. This benifits the bigger guys who already are spaced much father appart than that rest.
