  1. I though Baron Riekers had one heck of a day considering who he had to beat all the way through.  I was unsure about his ticket round match and he blew that one out of the water.  Then the competition jumped even higher with his semi-final or finals match and he stepped up big in those too.  He definitely earned his semi-state championship for sure.

  2. A stand up act of apology for something that was not your doing.  You sound like you are trying to do whats right by your school, program, and wrestlers and should be commended for this.  It is also shameful for others to judge the entirety of a program based on one unfortunate incident.  Hopefully others have also seen the great strides you have made with the program (evident by other messages on this thread) and will use that to judge what Gary Wallace wrestling truly is.  Hats off you for trying to do your part coach.

  3. Finals introductions have begun. Doing finals and consolations together.  Jeffersonville brought 6 coaches out for introductions... Lol

Well that's about 2/3rds of the staff and all probably "dressed to the nines" too. ;D    Glad to see them get a few in the finals.

  4. I have a question for those against multi classed individual tournaments:  why haven't our neighboring states learned from our greatness and went back to a single class system.  Why does PA, arguably the top wrestling state, have classes?  Is their version of this website have folks arguing against multi-class?  Same question for OH, IA, etc.

I guess the one related question to this that I have yet to get a good answered is in these surrounding state:

    A. did the creating of class wrestling years ago become the main driving force that created the powerhouses they are today?

    B. did other structural changes that effected wrestling development years ago become the main driving force that created the powerhouses they are today?

I would think if we could do the research which answers this question we would know what the next step in the process needs to be in order to catch Indiana up with these other states.  It would involve getting information on the history in the mid-west wrestling states and finding out the changes that have helped other "newer" powerhouse states move up to the next level.  But, to me finding out what has worked for other area is key to showing us what steps to take and what issues may arise.

Either way, I hope everyone realizes any changes that is made  if it be (class or otherwise) will not cause an overnight jump in participation and talent level in Indiana.  These other states have have many years of developing their system to get to where they are today.

  5. Did/Does the 3rd brother wrestle? Is he older or younger? That would be interesting to see a third brother have some of the same success.

Oops.  Forgot about the older brother.  I'll go back and make the correction above.

They are 46th all time on the family list currently (minus Jason)  Michael graduated in 1997 with 68 wins.

On another side note their dad and his brothers are 88th on the family list.

  6. Per Mat  Burns

    236-0 A. Tsirtsis Griffith

    229-5 A. Hernandez Griffith

    223-1 A. Escobedo Griffith

    221-8 M. Taylor NC

    210-8 M. Jaggars NC

    K. Guard NC was one away and N. Walpole PM two away.

Under the current system of how team have to schedule meets not to many kids has an opportunity to get in 50 matches a year to have a chance at reaching 200.

To dig a little deeper. Alex's total puts him in the top 100 families by himself without even counting Jason or their older brother Michael.  When Jason finishes they may be #2 all-time on the family list behind the five brother Doherty clan form Jeffersonville who had some impressive records themselves.

  7. 1. Looking past your opponent in expectation of tougher competition later.

    2. Your opponent studied the match and had a better game plan the next time around while you just assumed it was automatic the same stuff would work again.

    3. The first match score got out of hand while trying to do something to comeback so the final looked worse than it was.

    4. You got to cocky or relaxed against an opponent and ended up getting caught by his one signature 5pt/pin move.

    5. The mentality of preparing or entering the match changed from earlier in the year.

    6. The first match was early so the wrestler was just getting the rust out and weight under control compared to the second time.

    7. A nagging illness/injury of the better wrestler that is limiting him.

    8. Not losing weight properly, not getting enough sleep, not eating right, having multiple other things going on and/or thing weight on your mind aside

        from the match.

    9.  The wrestlers is much better than he appear, but some of the reason above have caused him to be the one under preform for most of the year.

    10. The stars fell into place and everything aligned perfectly for the opponent, but everything seemed to go wrong for you.

    11. Abnormal or strange style and/or body type match-ups.

    12.  The kids is just really good at the few moves he does know but you have no real prior knowledge about them.

    13. You were over hyped and had a lighter schedule than your opponent who flew under the radar and lost some close matches to legit wrestlers.

  8. I know back during their long run Mater Dei had a time or two where a late season replacement ended up making it to state.

This would beg the question what the highest a late season replacement (came in full time after Winter Break) placed in the tournament?

  9. dont know about the upsidedown thing but it been proven that if you can fart steady and long enuff while on the scales, it can cause you to weigh less on the scales. Its similar to a jet pack lifting you up !

    ff

And we finally find out how you got your screen name.  ;D

  10. I said at the beginning of the season and I stand by my statement 10 days out from the State Finals that this will be the year that New Castle passes Merrillville for most medalists.

I always thought the medal count was a more accurate assessment of the toughest semi-state.  Seems to show more depth of an area.  Counting just first may show what area has the most studs, but after that you could have a drop off in talent from that area.

By the way RC are you going to mark through the eliminated ranked wrestlers similar to last year and indicate who eliminated them or when they lost.  I thought that was a nice touch to show who was still in the hunt and what none ranked wrestler was putting out the most big names.

  11. Ever since they started taking 4 from regionals to semi-state I have been saying having the alternate be the person who lost first round to the champion is a bad call.  Most of the time its a sectional 4th place finisher and occasionally even an alternate who moved into the spot.  I say the easiest solution is the take the highest sectional finisher from those eliminated in the first round.  In the event the two highest eliminated finished the exact same in sectionals then it goes to whoever is from the same sectional as the champion.  While in most cases the alternate doesn't matter in the few case it does I see its worth advancing someone with slightly higher credentials that a sectional 4th place finisher.
