Wrestled in Madison's youth program until he moved to Virginia.

At this point they could easily have enough fighter to have monthly TV show with a few UFC headliners like they do with the Fight Night shows. Or have large events once a month that is filmed, and split it up into several parts and have weekly series complete with behind the scenes, interviews, and news to hype upcoming PPVs. Either way the UFC needs to introduce something new to get people interested in other fighters so they continue to gain PPV numbers for some of these lesser cards.

There is an guy from Indiana on TUF. Shamar Bailey, he trains up at integrated, any one know if he was a wrestler?
He just wrestled his senior year of high school at Center Grove (family move a lot). Did well but not sure at what level he was put out of the tournament series. Went on to wrestle DIII while becoming a pastor at a Bible College. He has been training with Lytle the last several years along with being a member of the fire department with him. He was suppose to have an epic battle with Kinser but the fight ended quickly due to Bailey getting cut. On a side note

Why did Caldwell default to Grajales???

Kinser wins with a TD and ride out in first full round.
Young as well with an early win.
McMurray falls first full round to Flemming 5-0.
A few guys representatives from IU/PU or from Indiana high schools that attend out of state colleges participating in NCAAs.

Now you leave "The Coug" and "The General" out of this!

Great Big 10 coverage and expect the same for NCAA's. It's always great when Spring Break falls on the same week as NCAA's. Did Fleeger make the trip or was there a chapstick shortage in PA?

Good to hear indyshred.
Yeah Boots it probably better to check out something like their wiki page for a slightly more in depth explanation of the organization. That were I had to go a few years back to get most of my background info.

Is Charlie Sheen in this movie?
No thats the remake of this Paul Newman film
By the way during Sheens time off of acting he is focusing on giving back. Over the summer he will offer a sports camp (including wrestling) that geared toward those who need focus and want to gain a mental edge over the competition.

Congrats!
On a side note, what exactly is the NCWA? Is it similar to NAIA, just an alternative to the NCAA?
National Collegiate Wrestling Association. It does have several school and I would say its similar to the NAIA with an obvious wrestling theme. Many of the teams were former NCAA scholarship programs that were effected by Title IX issues. We had a wrestlers who went to a NCWA school in Alabama (he AA'ed) his freshman year to earn the classes he needed in order to get into West Point. Though he used the school as a prep school many of the school that participate are general universities and colleges. http://www.ncwa.net/

While some states have large numbers of qualifiers on a regular basis. It does seem as it Utah, Washington, and Colorado particularly have been making major strides in the last several year.

FYI the Coaches Trophy was not handed out this season due to the IHSAA stating they were unhappy with the IHSWCA handing one out. I'm sure there is an unofficial list of scoring totals though.

That might cause a cash flow issue.
That what I was thinking. I'd say a 'semi-state" event may be a better way to go. Just brainstorming but top 4 from any local event is can participate in the "semi-state." Then top 4 from the "semi-state" can go to state. Maybe charge state participant cost at the "semi-state" so those who place already have state paid for and will be more likely to attend rather than paying participation fee twice. I'd like to see more state weight classes with more than a handful of kids in them personally, but the 20+ kids in a weight can be daunting too. By having more localized "semi-state" events you may draw more people in many weights than the state finals currently does thus the cash flow will be higher. Then a second cash flow can be generated from the attendance at both the "semi-state" and state events. This type of setup could work for both Folkstyle and Freestyle. Only major downsides would there would still be a lot of kids in each weight class, and you would be limiting the talent that would come from each area.

I read this too. Three-time defending national champs...titles in 6 of last 8 years. Decided to switch to D1 in basketball and dump football and wrestling "to remain financially viable." The AD is quoted as saying he loves wrestling, but that there would have to be a sudden infusion of money from outside sources for UNO to survive as a D1 wrestling program.
Man that sucks. Hate to see any program go, let along one that has had great sucess in last several years. Maybe, some of the Indiana wrestling schools should try scooping up a few of there guys while they can. Obviously, that team has some talent on it.

I think you might be underestimating the impact that winning a sectional, regional, or semistate would have on most programs
I would agree that reguardless of how many if any classes we have in a team competition a team winning sectional, regional, and even making state has be built up to mean something more important to some of the teams, schools, and communities than what has be made of it in the past. Clearly the most growth from this can come from the smaller close-knit communities but larger school district that have a emphasis on school and sport can gain from it to. That is the only way the sport will grow from a team competition. Currently, it seems some schools are to concerned about only the finalist and lose sight of what a big accomplishment it can be to contend for a sectional title in this tough sport. We do see this pride the team, school, and community has when competiting for just a sectional title with some sports. Classing the team portion of the event may help some people put that thinking back in perspective.

Any feedback on MattM's idea of having a small school spin off from the current team state series? Sectional champs advance, and winners continue on in the traditional team state tournament, while eligible small schools who get defeated along the way would spin off to a small school bracket to continue on in their own small team state finals. Top small school that doesn't win their sectional would divert to the small team state bracket and move on in the series.
This idea could work. Those who want a true team state champ get what they want, and small schools get two bites at the apple - win a true team state title or, when knocked out, get a meaningful chance to continue to a small class state title.
Close, but my plan would completely seprate the school by class and would only let the lower classes compete in the large division if they choose too. Not just from the large to small when eliminated. Here was my original idea for a quick switch since it was brought up. It was designed under the impressing the IHSAA wanted to do as little work as possible with changing or organizing things from their current set up. Obviously, if the event (classed or not) was moves to the middle of the season a huge format change for how most teams have schedules would need to happen. I would involve slight sectional realignment, but not much and everything else would remain relitively the same as it is now.
In a 3 Class Division
Sectionals consists of:
3 to 5 Teams from large class division
3 to 5 Team from middle class division
3 to 5 Team from small class division
In a 2 Class Divsion
(But I don't think this may be broke up enough to realistally sustain and grow the sport through the team tournament)
5 to 7 teams from large class division
5 to 7 team from small class division
The actually breakdown whould depend on what teams are close to that area. Some class divisions would obviously have more teams than others from sectional to sectional. Award a sectional title to whatever team has the most sectional tournament point in each class division. You may have came in 4th over all but if you are the top school from class 2A you are the class 2A sectional champion.
If decided the Porochrial and Private school have some type of student population multiplier or are just simply moved up one division.
Have each class team winner move on their own team regional matches.
Have the top individuals reguarless of class move on to the individual team tournament.
In most cases we will still see many of the same teams go to state every year in each of the divisions. But in the middle and smaller division things will change more. Plus in many areas you will see more changes from year to year in who win the sectional and regional titles. That means more coaches, schools schools and communities can use it as publicity for the sport. This will help team state grow the sport at the lower levels more than it does now. All of which while still keeping a individual state tournament as one class. The more teams in the team event the better chance of an improved attendence for the IHSAA.

Kurt Angle wrestled for Clarion from 1988-1992. He had two championships with a 2nd place in between. He did not place his freshman year.
He's asking about Angel Cejudo, Henry's older brother.
Angel was set up to attend Arizona State, but decided to go to the Olympic Training Center instead. Henry decided to move from Arizona to Colorado with him and attend the local high school there. I'm guessing both have had oppertunities to enroll in college credit classes while at the OTC.

Taylor will be 25-30lbs bigger most likely.
Who knows considering Taylor has already put on a ton of weight over the last several years, he may not be able to put on much more even though he said he wanted to. Either way, Alton and Long wouldn't be to bad partners for Jason either.
-
I: tink he should go to Penn State and be coached by Cael Sanderson. Penn State would be a perfect fit for him with their great coaching, and they are still a decently young team right now. If not Penn State I think he should go to Ohio State or Iowa.
David Taylor sure wouldn't be a bad practice partner for him.

Please make sure you take some time immidiately to talk to your principal and AD about holding off on the survey until you can talk to them soon.
Unfortunately, if the data is mixed with no answer being overwhelming the IHSAA will say the survey was inconclusive and say that is a legit reason to take it upon just themselves to decided what to do. Making sure your principals and AD are informed of the details of the state tournament series by you so you have a better chance that they will go into it voting the same way as you (the wrestling coach) did. Reguardless of what your stance it this is a much better way of voting to help your school out than them voting quickly before you can speak with them. If not we are letting people have little to no clue about the details of the tournament series have 2/3 of the opinion on it. This will no doubt help to add more mixed data and a inconclusive result.
