  1. Actually it's not that bad of a deal. All they have to do is win that pigtail match and they continue, skipping two rounds they would have wrestled in the regionals. Right?

That regional should have never happened last Saturday...period.

  2. Honestly, I do not even know. I have no connection to Rand. Co. wrestling, only having wrestled there in h.s. many a moon ago.

Here's how I see it and sorry in advance to the boys who won advancement tickets last week:

No one really qualified for SS at Jay Co. Saying that they did is like giving the top ranked wrestler from each wt class in Jan. the gold medal State Championship.

The coaches should have protested Sat. and banned together and not wrestled their boys unless all who rightfully qualified from Sect. had the legitimate opportunity to be there and wrestle. What happened was not a few being over weight or being disqualified because of training rules. It still disgusts me. What other possibilities were presented, considered? Did we just go with the first one?

It reminds me of No Child Left Behind. Why penalize the disadvantaged?

So what disadvantage are the pigtails,  other than being an extra match for the wrestlers involved?

  3. I think this guy said it best when he said the best wrestler is still going to be crowned Champ next Saturday. Well, prove it! With Rand. Co. wrestlers being factored out of the equation the way they did and still marginally are, you seriously can not prove it. If the best wrestler will still win, what would make the difference between 2 matches and 3?

I think it's a case of having one's cake and eating it too.

But that's me, and they've censored me before. Must be some truth in it.

Is there someone from Rand. Co. that's a semistate qualifier that isn't included in the wrestling Saturday?

  4. What do you mean, what do I suggest? I asked a question. I suggest to put an asterisk next to 2010 because the entire state tournament has been altered.

What should have happened, and really still has time to happen, is that each wrestler who qualified for the Jay Co. Regional be invited to the Ft. Wayne Semi-State. Those wrestlers who won, got 2nd, etc. can keep their medals, but the tournament at Ft. Wayne get seeded as an invitational, with a set number of seeds and the rest a blind draw. You now have a 28 wrestler bracket, make two pools and your ticket round would still be 3, but 3 matches for everyone. The pigtail penalizes the wrestlers who weren't able to get to Jay Co.

The retort will be, why should everyone at Ft. Wayne have to win 3 to go to state? My only answer is this: The same situation could have, and may yet, happen to anyone. With the disadvantage the Rand. Co. wrestlers have by not being able to determine their own destiny at Jay Co., the state tournament is compromised throughout.

I think the Rand. Co. wrestlers are getting a bad deal, but with this scenario you'd be penalizing the wrestlers that already wrestled three matches at regionals.

  5. Seeing how most everyone just went along with the first idea to "fix" the Jay Co. fiasco, are we going to put an asterisk (*) next to this year's entries unto the history books?

Seems as though, from an outsider's perspective, the whole thing has been modified, and is therefore incomparable to other years.

    --monkey!

    What do you suggest?

  6. I remember seeing a thread about sucessful people who wrestled.  Lets hear about Indiana wrestlers who went on to some neat or sucessful ventures after wrestling.  Not interested in wrestling careers after high shcool, but life experiences.  Doctors, entrepneurs, humanitarian work, etc...anything that is worth noting.

    Doctors, entrepreneurs, humanitarians?

No, no, no, I got nothin'...

Maybe if you'd set the bar a little lower... ;)

  7. At Goshen, I somehow got by with a backpack. But sounds like that is not gonna make it, if they frisk you. Man do they have dogs sniffing you down or what? At Goshen I took stuff I know I wouldn't find there, blueberries, walnuts, protein bars, and water. Can you leave between matches, or are you locked in?

The packpack won't fly in Ft Wayne. They'll check it, then make you take it out to the car. Save yourself the trip. Just make sure to send Chris with a cooler that he can carry in himself when he goes with the team. I'm not sure about being locked in. I think I remember people going out and smoking.

  8. They check coats, purses, and bags to take food. The people in front of me had to throw away their water bottle and granola bar in their purse and they made a little girl throw away the apple she was eating. Another tip: meet at the mall and pack as man people as you can in 1 car, they charge for parking.

Yeah I saw that stuff last year. When I walked in from parking I wondered why I was walking past so many PO'd people that were taking their coolers back to their cars

I just think it's strange that all year long the coach preaches, "Don't eat junk, eat good food and no soda!" and we go to semi state and that's all you can get.

OK, so the wrestlers can carry something in... thanks guys!

  9. If Hormann were to somehow get by Crume,

he has lost to Rothgeb twice in OT.

The last time he lost on a coin flip of a takedown call. He is definitely right there.

Crume and Hormann have wrestled twice in the past with Crume winning both, the last was at the Al Smith with Crume winning 13-6. Also Crume and Rothgeb wrestled at the ISWA SB-JR Folkstyle State tourney with Crume winning a close 13-11 match, I know it's no semistate ticket round win...

Here's a quote from George Harrison's song entitled "Darkhorse"-  You thought you had got me in your grip, looks like you was not so smart, And I became too slippery for you, But let me say that was nothing new.

So since no one has added him to their predictions, I wouldn't count Collin out.

  10. Bradley beating Hawkins....not necessarily an upset, but anytime a defending state champ gets beat its somewhat of an upset.....the next couple weeks could get interesting at 119

     Very interesting. Congrats to Danny!
  11. If I want my kid to be the best possible wrestler in the state he will need to wrestle as close to year round as possible.  If you have a top kid that only wrestles from November until February, then he is not going to be as good as a kid equal to him that wrestles 10 months out of the year.  That kid that wrestles only four months out of the year will have to be an extraordinary athlete to overcome someone that wrestles 2.5x more than he does.  Even if a small school has a kid willing to wrestle 10 months of the year, he still needs a quality practice partner to do so too.  Add to that a coach that can unlock the room.

This statement is as close as you can get to the truth...
