Portage lost to Cathedral by more than Avon did and Avon had 5 starters out including two kids ranked in the top 6 in the state.

Brownsburg won the toss which messed and a bump and then it all went to hell. They won all the close match ups. It was ugly. Just a horrible match up for the Orioles. And boys... the Bulldogs are that good. You will see.

I think that it is Brownsburg, Cathedral, Perry, Avon, Portage, EMD.

The good thing is that we will find out for sure in a couple weeks where 4 of the 5 fall. It’s going to be good.

Btw... we were all making bets when our friend from the south would respond. Team Garcia wins the MD92 chiming in pool this time!!!

Somebody has to keep you county boys from completely monopolizing this board.B)

  2. Well, for starters, you bump Portage and EMD up.  Portage has beaten #9 Chesterton and #13 Crown Point, although they do have a loss to #1 Cathedral.   But it wasn't a complete beat down like Brownsburg gave Avon.  EMD just beat #14 Hobart 53-11 and beat the #4 team in KY (I know, its KY) 65-0.  So I'd drop Avon to #6 since they beat Warren who sits at #7.

  3. "Hat's on!":  Said by Goebel when drilling was done and it was time to put the head gear on and go live.

"On your backs!"  Said by Goebel at the end of practice.  top man puts bottom man in a pinning combination and bottom man has 30 seconds to get out.  The switch.  Also meant practice was just about over!!

Peterson's results involving Semi-State and State opponents on TrackWrestling from last year:

7-3 over SQ McKeever of Carroll

15-5 over SSQ Allgood of Bloomington South

Fall over SSQ Gerwig of Bellmont

Fall over SSQ Swopes of Portage

13-4 over SSQ Miller of Perry Meridian

    2-5 & 7-15 losses to 3rd-at-State Larson of Avon

3-5 loss to 8th-at-State Akers of Crown Point

Still don't see how that makes him the #4 285 this year.  Bring on the pit of misery.  Dilly f'ing Dilly!!!

Possible could be out at the start.  May depend on how things go at the College Opens they attend.  Shields is a very solid wrestlers that’s threatening to AA this year.  Do Tsirtsis would have needed to be close to his old form anyway.  Coming off that much of a career layoff, I fully expected a close match.  But it’s still a disheartening to know Jason isn’t where we hoped he would be at this point.

Does anyone know if he’s academically eligible from the start of this semester or do they have him on some type of academic probation until semester due to his previous situation.  I know he wasn’t failing at NW, but wasn’t sure if the switch due to academics still put him on some type of athletic restriction to start the year.   If so he may not be quite back to his old wrestling form since their isn’t as much motivation to get there in October when he won’t be able to hit the mat for the team until January.

Even if if there isn’t a restriction I wouldn’t be surprised with the layoff he’s had if it’s a slow ramp up before he’s closer to his old form.  Along with the fact he may likely need to drop another weight class To increase his chances of success.  Although ASU has a solid wrestler there too.

Not to mention he likely needs to make some adjustments to that form to be a viable AA candidate this season. Some of the last few years of NCAA rules tweaks haven’t exactly favor his earlier defensive style.

In the end if he is able finishes off with a degree and can transition into a solid post college life then the change is still useful even if he never end up starting for ASU.   But man it would be nice to see him make a comeback and have one more serious run at another title.

He lost 3-2.  That's about where he was when he last wrestled.

  7. Would be a great story, but unless he has changed his strategy, it won't happen (being on the top of the podium).  He's not beating Retherford 2-1, nor would he beat Nolf or Kemmerer 2-1.  But I think there's a good chance that he ends up with and AA finish.

Gfeller scores a lot early, shut B.Lee's offense down in the middle, then runs the last part of the match to get the win.   Lee will join Moran and Cressell in the consols.

I don't know if runs is the right word.  He stood in the center of the mat the majority of the 2nd period until Lee started pushing him around.  I think Lee only had one really good shot.  Don't know if the bumping of heads had any impact or not.  Let's hope he comes back and takes 3rd.

  9. I'll take Micic in rd 3 and Red in a potential match.

What if.......Hump doesn't cut to 30 and we see a 2x state champ Hump vs. 3x state champ Escobedo?

That match happened.  Probably would have been a closer match as seniors, but not sure Humphrey would have closed the gap that much.

112 Pounds First Round Results Angel Escobedo (55-0), freshman, Griffith def. Reece Humphrey (17-5), freshman, Lawrence North, decision, 13-5.

  10. For me, it was the 1992 dual between MD and Lawrence North at the old Indiana's Best.  Lawrence North was the host and we got them right off the bat.  They were ranked #1 in the state and top 20 in the country.  They had beaten us the year before 27-21.  The dual featured 3 ties and 2 of LN's 4 state champs were beaten that day.  Scott Wilkey knocked off Derek Robinson at 189 to ice the dual and MD won by the exact score we lost by the year before, 27-21.  The win also happened to be Coach Goebel's 200th of his career.
