  7. Jeffersonville High School?s wrestling team is currently hosting 10 wrestlers and two coaches from New Zealand. The New Zealanders will compete with the Red Devils and surrounding wrestlers in an exhibition match tonight, then participate in the Team Jeff Iron Man (a tournament consisting of Greco-Roman, freestyle and folkstyle matches) on Saturday and Sunday. The Kiwis, who will attend school at Jeff today and get a glimpse of the everyday life of their hosts and peers, are scheduled to leave Monday.
  8. Last night the New Zealand Wrestling team visited southern Indiana, and had a practice with Jennings County, Trinity KY, New Albany, and Jeff- 70 plus in attendance Tonight we had 48 kids at practice, and a great cookout.....check out their HAKA (Maori War Dance)
  9. We have committee's set up to work on everything. Not sure what the animosity about this clinician is, but coaches do pay to come into this clinic (they pay for the clinician, not the kids). As I volunteer my time I encourage others to get into the volunteer mode. I invite you to get involved in volunteering with us. Until then we will keep doing the best we can, as always. Thank you for those that support what we do. You are appreciated. if you need anything my email is dstruck@gcs.k12.in.us
  10. Thank you for answering that question Matt M, you are 100% correct....as well as most college coaches out a the Olympic Trials that day. I have seen Braumon myself, and wanted to share what he does, and has to say with others. My thought in bringing him out was to bring a great message and some great ideas to others. I try to bring in coaches I have seen before, and I know for sure have something to offer. Trying to stick with the same weekend as years prior, and not conflict with ISWA weekends, or Indy 500 weekend, and all the other things that take place in busy lives. I appreciate the suggestions up top, as always my email is open to anyone: dstruck@gcs.k12.in.us

  13. April 4, 2012 YOUTH WRESTLING: Jeff wrestler wins at nationals Jolley-Little captures cadet division crown in 285-pound weight class By MATT KOESTERS matt.koesters@newsandtribune.com The News and Tribune Wed Apr 04, 2012, 12:00 AM EDT CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa ? Team Jeff wrestler Gavan Jolley-Little captured the 285-pound cadet division national championship at the Asics/USA Wrestling National Championships at the University of Northern Iowa on Saturday. ?We are very proud of Gavan,? Team Jeff and Jeffersonville High School wrestling coach Danny Struck said. ?Gavan was up against two guys that were favored to beat him, and he kept his head and won.? Jolley-Little opened the tournament with a win over a familiar opponent in Zach Wood of Oxford, Ill. Wood dispatched Jolley-Little in a USA Wrestling regional compeition last year. Jolley-Little avenged the loss with a 5-4 decision. Jolley-Little took a 4-2 decision in the semifinals of the tournament over seven-time Iowa state champion Jacob Marnin before facing off against Shawn Streck, who Jolley-Little defeated in the Indiana folkstyle championship two weeks prior. Jolley-Little again prevailed with a 2-1 decision. ?(Gavan) called me very excited before and after every round,? Struck said. ?He knows that he is going to be happy about this today ... (but will) keep working toward Fargo national championships in freestyle and Greco-Roman. Gavan wants to go to the IHSAA state finals and he is working hard toward that.? Jolley-Little won the heavyweight division at sectional as a sophomore. He is the Indiana State Wrestling Association folkstyle champion. Jolley-Little?s success is part of what Struck called ?a huge spring break for Team Jeff.? The team took 10 championships at the Kentucky State Folkstyle Championships at Louisville Central, out of 20 competitions entered. Additionally, Jeffersonville freshman Jasmine Fuller earned All-American honors wrestling in the USA Wrestling Girls? Folkstyle Championship in Oklahoma City, where she took sixth in the nation in her age group. ?We are very proud of Jasmine,? Struck said. ?She is only a freshman, so we hope she will be one of our next national champions.? The last female wrestler to win a national championship for Team Jeff was two-time champion Becky Cissel in 2008.

  17. GRECO NIGHT LIVE A night of free wrestling, concentrating on Greco Roman (upper body) wrestling. Kids will show up to the sights, and wrestle greco matches with referees, in real match situations. Basically it is a real meet, so kids can get a feel of Greco Roman wrestling in a real match setting before Greco State or any real Greco tournaments. Just walk in, match up with guys in like size and weight - wrestled 2-3 times and go home! More information on these events to come. for those skeptical of Greco Roman wrestling, I know it has really helped our kids open up their skill sets, and increased their confidence in a multitude of situations on the mat in their high school seasons. It's the worlds oldest sport, lets keep it alive! 18. Louisville has at least 14 schools with wrestling in them, maybe more. Pretty much all of them are the size of Jeff or new Albany Clark and Floyd County has 6 (New Albany, Floyd Central, Christian Academy, New Washington, Charlestown, Jeffersonville) When you get to chose from 14 schools it becomes a pretty good team regardless of where your from. Just good competition for our area kids, and a fun night for all.
