Also, Michael Nickson of Merrillville is another one that comes to mind. He had a win over state 4th placer Jack Seaman and was closing the gap between him and state 3rd placer Tyler Kral of CP after a couple of meetings. He's a kid who is very raw, talent-wise, and with another year under David Maldonado, could really have a breakout senior season, though 215 at the Merrillville Semi-State is stacked next year...
-
Also, John Tatom of Hamilton Southeastern had wins over state placewinners Vincent Corsaro and Tyler Gadient during the season but came up a little short at semi-state. He could place high next year as well..
-
I think of kids like Cody LeCount of Perry Meridian who majored state placewinner Alonzo Shepherd but came up a little short in a tough ticket round match out of the brutal 112 weight at New Castle that could place really high next year. Also, Mike Venezia of Indianapolis Cathedral had wins this year over state placewinners Josh Farrell and Gideon VanHook but came up a little short at the semi-state for the second year in a row. He is another kid that I think could place really high next year after having two disappointing finishes to his first 2 seasons.

how about some resumes people? a lot of people are throwing out names, which i appreciate, but i'm looking for results... what have they won? who have they beaten? who trains them?
-
these, in no particular order, are incoming freshmen that i, at this venture, deem worthy of being ranked in the next year's pre-season rankings...
Evan Smiley- Indianapolis Cathedral
Bailey LaHue- Corydon Central
Brandon James- Lawrence North
Robert Stevenson- Merrillville
Tommy Forte- Mishawaka
Ben Harvey- Indianapolis Cathedral
Joey Mammolenti- Penn
Tommy Cash- New Palestine
Darden Schurg- Crown Point
Garrett Wilson- Perry Meridian
make your case for others, along with school and projected weight class...

My thoughts go out to Neil, who is a frequent poster on the board, Jamie, Marcus, Kyle and the whole family for this tragic loss.

No doubt that Campbell and Mullins very well may win state titles next year, as both are right there on the verge of breaking through... However, when one looks at the state's top 10 career victories leaders, it reads as follows...
1. Alex Tsirtsis- Griffith
2. Andrae Hernandez- Griffith
3. Angel Escobedo- Griffith
4. Mac Taylor- New Castle
5. Matt Jaggers- New Castle
6. Keith Garrard- New Castle
7. Nick Walpole- Perry Meridian
8. Andrew Howe- Hanover Central
9. Darren Elkins- Portage
10. John Sheets- Bellmont
what do #4, #5, and #6 have in common? they all went to New Castle, and they are the only 3 in the top 10 all-time that do not have at least 1 state title. while my commentary is pointed, and not everyone likes it at every moment in time (see Mt. Vernon, Castle, New Castle, Crown Point), I have shown to be an equal opportunity offender and will always call it like I see it. the culture of this board, which some people think is to shy away from honesty if it means controversy, is better saved for other facets of your personal lives. in order to advance Indiana wrestling, I feel that if coaches and wrestlers are being publically scrutinized, they are more likely to raise their level, and in turn, Indiana wrestling prospers, and that is my ultimate goal.

I will win this elusive title that I have been trying to claim since I was 7 years old before it's all said and done....
-
So I did the math of these two young men from New Castle. If both win all there matches next year (assuming they wrestle 56 times / avg. of previous yrs.) and finally get the top spot on the podium this will be there records:
Mullins 218-8 4xplacer (5th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st)
Campbell ( Inj., 3rd, 2nd, 1st) 207-3
Or they could join fellow New Castle 200 win club and 0 state titles club members Mac Taylor and Matt Jaggers... Keith Garrard is not far behind with 199 wins and 0 state titles and Cory Cook had 183 wins and 0 state titles : Seems that Coach Peck loves to build his schedule to inflate records, so one must always take New Castle kids' records with a grain of salt.

Yes, we had 4.. Josh Kieffer, Justin Kieffer, Eric Roach, and John Sims

I've gone thru and up'd everyone's grade by 1 year on the rankings, deleted the seniors, and updated the state experience.. I can hardly wait for next season to start! Looking at my spreadsheet we have 6 seniors attempting to be 4-time state medalists next season. They are.. Cody Phillips, Kyle Ayersman, Brian Harvey, Jason Tsirtsis, Connor Mullins, and Tyler Willis. Very good senior class!
-
how about adding up all of the semi-states and state like we talked about to see who is the overall champion.. i believe i may have won that!

wondering the same thing...

The rankings guy would have done really well if he would have given the Evansville semi-state more respect.
He missed from the semi-state
130-M0lloy-3
135-Raley-3
189-Goldman-4
Lannert-15
Whetstine-16
While Molloy and Raley weren't ranked #1, I did pick both of them to win state titles in my Official State Picks thread...

Rankings don't mean squat, more than half the kids ranked hardly ever make it to state. You have to atleast make it to semi-state the previous year to even be considered in the rankings. Trey Reese was impressive but Goldman stood out way more in my opinion. Big deal about him weighing 197, that is what the majority of 215 pounders weigh anyway.
More than half the kids ranked hardly make it to state? I think you may like to go through and see just how inaccurate that statement is by clicking on the Rankings tab at the top..

There was a coach in the championship match who wore a nice pair of slacks, a nice sport coat and tie with....tennis shoes
I wonder who that was... cough cough Bob Harmon... Nice suit and tie, and then instead of finishing off the outfit with a nice pair of shoes, he chooses to wear his grass-stained tennis shoes. It looks like he just got done push mowing the lawn!

I, as well, scored 11. Missed Mason Todd, Garrett Goldman, and Jeremiah Harvey

If you sit close enough to me i'll let you use my WiFi hotspot from my phone. I'll probably be sitting right behind press row
I thought we were sitting in section 16?

maybe the all knowing one can expouse us with his superior intellect and post who he thinks will win every weight class.
I did, let me direct you to it Ken...

I find it to be a little bit of an afront for someone to take potshots at someone else for their upset choice. I remember a couple years ago when the Woods kid from Leo stuck George Malone who was ranked #1 all year and a defending state champ. I guess a rankings guy must know all seeings how so often the rankings are so deadon. I believe the post was started so everyone could express their opinion without reproach or attack, apparently I was wrong so I guess maybe the all knowing one can expouse us with his superior intellect and post who he thinks will win every weight class. With that vast wrestling knowledge that he seems to have I am certain he has never had to purchase tickets to the state finals as he probably wins the freebies from the Mat Burns contest every year. When there is only a two or three person race at each weight class it should be extremely easy to fill out the three forms and walk away with all the goods. So go ahead and astound us with you prognostications all knowing one.
When there are only 2 or 3 people that could win every weight class the amount of pickems that you'd have to fill out to assure you win would actually be 2 to the 14th power= 16,384 or 3 to the 14th power=4,782,969... but hey, who's counting?

I agree, he had a fantastic freshman season.. What I meant is that his season ended short of where I think his potential lies. Awful draw at Semi-State with either LeCount or Price going home, and it just didn't go his way. Next year I think he could definitely be a high medalist.
