  2. Last night was the final wrestling event to be held at Munster this season. And, on a personal note, it went out with a bang with CJ bumping up to 165 to take on Mavros of Lowell. It was a tremendous match. Even better, Munster opened the concession stand for this event. First thing, the hot dogs from last night were definitely a different brand or style from Saturdays super duals. They weren't as plump as the first time, but had the desired reddish color I appreciate. They also came in these "bags", and weren't just wrapped in foil. As far as the taste, they were. Nothing spectacular, but enjoyable. I did prefer these dogs to the ones from the super duals. So, the hot dogs from last night get 5.25 slices of pizza out of 8. Next stop on the tour is the Mooresville holiday tournament that starts a week from today. CJ, my son, just told me he will be wrestling at 150, so maybe keep an eye out for that. As always, thank you for reading.

  4. As some of you know, Munster had their senior night on 12/6, but did not serve concessions. However, after a lot letter writing, protesting, a fire alarm, and some good ol' fashioned bitching, Munster opened the concession stand for the super duals yesterday. (Some might say they were going to open the stand without my theatrics, but trust me, I was the catalyst. Maybe.) On to the review. Reminder, I taste test the hot dogs plain. When I first saw the hot dog, I was excited. It was plump, and had that nice reddish color I like. However, when I bit into it, it tasted different than what I was expecting. It tasted as if they steamed the hot dog with the polish, and a bit of the polish taste got into the dog. Now this is tricky, because I believe there is a section of the population that would love a hot dog with polish taste. I was, not exactly "meh", but I wanted a hot dog that tasted like a hot dog. So, unfortunately, I have to give the hot dogs yesterday at Munster 4.5 slices of pizza out of 8. The next Munster wrestling meet is at Munster on Thursday the 21. If the open the stand, I will do a retaste. Thank you for reading.
  5. In response to Silence Dogood The bun on this hot dog was actually decent. If the hot dog has a bun, its getting at least 1 slice pizza.
  6. Last night I had the, um, pleasure to dine on the hot dogs at Hanover Central. Just one look at the color of the hot dog, and it occurred to me that if a hot dog could come back as a zombie, this would be the color of its skin. As far as the taste, imagine this. Your parents go out and gamble most of the family's money away on payday. Well, the hot dogs you'd be eating the following week would be the equivalent of the dogs at Hanover. At least Hanover Central had real buns. 2 slices of pizza out of 8. Thank you for reading.
  7. Last night was senior night for the Munster wrestling team. But, I guess that wasn't important enough to open the concession stand for the dual against Highland. So I had to endure without my favorite in season food. For last night, Munster gets 8 slices of pizza out of 8. But those slices all have anchovies, pineapple, and jalapeno on top of them. And my dogs licked them. Next stop on the tour is Dec 13 at Hanover Central High School. Thank you for reading.
  8. Today the Munster wrestling schedule brought me to Valparaiso High School where I sampled their supply of hotdogs. The hot dogs were $3 and were taste tested plain. The Valparaiso concession stand is in the middle of the hallway, and reminded me of that McDonald's that sat in the middle of the Chicago Skyway. The dogs were cooked using those rollers you find in any quality 7 Eleven. The result of using these rollers was that there was a small char on the hot dogs that I appreciate. The hot dogs didn't have a premium taste, but they weren't cheap. The buns were fresh. These dogs were a bit smaller than last week's and not as juicy. My final score for these dogs is 5.75 slices of pizza out of 8. As a side note, I brought my 14 year old nephew with me today. He gave the hot dogs 6.5 slices of pizza out of 8. The next stop on the tour is December 6 at Munster high school for senior night. Thank you for reading. Side note, I couldn't add a picture of the hot dog for some reason. If I figure it out, I will post it.
  9. I will be visiting Hobart high school and partaking in their hot dog offerings on January 10.
  10. Unfortunately I will not be at the Al Smith. I will be reviewing the hot dogs at Mooresville that weekend.
  11. So, one of my favorite parts of wrestling season is sampling the different hot dogs the schools present during the year. For disclosure, my son Chris Bohn and wrestles for Munster, the hot dog testing tour will follow the Munster schedule. I also taste test the dogs plain. Today I was at Goshen High School. The hot dog was $3. It was pretty plump, and was definitely not cheap. The bun has the perfect amount of "freshness", meaning it wasn't hard, but it wasn't soaked. I will definitely be picking up a couple of more tomorrow. The Goshen hot dogs get 6 slices of pizza out of 8. The next stop on the tour is Valparaiso high school on December 2. Thank you for reading.

  13. So, no online ticket sales this year?? It only says ticket gate. I just don't want to screw up, even though I'm pretty good at it!
  14. With technology today, it wouldn't be hard to do a zoom meeting with the relevant athletic directors to show how the blind draw is done. In the East Chicago semi state, a couple of the weight classes had the same draw for 2-3 years. That seems like an almost mathematical impossibility.
  15. Just wondering, is there any info on buying tickets to the semi states?? Particularly East Chicago for me. Last year we bought them online, but I haven't seen any information on whether there will be online purchases or if all tickets will be bought in person. Thanks in advance for any replies.
