For me it's simple, in wrestling either you are one of the best or you're not. Wrestling a sport that involves hard work, talent and determination. If you are an exceptional wrestler and make it to State regardless of school size, you deserve to be there. Wrestling shouldn't have to cater to anyone or to a class system, it's the toughest sport there is! I started wrestling when I was 4 and never left the mat year round (like most of us). I put in the hard work and still never made it to State. Never once, did I consider class wrestling to be an option. I wasn't one of the best in the state and that's a simple fact. Large school, small school, podunk town...it doesn't matter where you come from, if you aren't one of the best you won't make it to State. I think that's what makes our sport so great!

sslaymom - Both schools have great feeder programs in place. TCWC was the ISWA Club of the Year last year and they are coming to middle school very soon. My jr high team is about a year away from being very competitive. Just gotta have patience haha!

I didn't think Tell City's numbers were too low...we have 22 kids with some weight classes having 2 or 3 kids. You guys did beat us pretty handily but our numbers are finally on the rise for once. Just gotta keep our club programs going strong! Our biggest problem is getting the basketball coaches to stop their season in time so that they can come out for wrestling if they are interested. Everybody wants to keep the good athletes to themselves instead of sharing with us haha!
I do agree that numbers are down around a lot of programs....with our SIEWC league starting so early, I can't keep kids motivated come February/March.
See you guys Thursday!
