Here's this weekends dual comparisons, starting today. There are some big matchups this weekend. First one that comes up is the dual between Oklahoma and Michigan. Another dual that lots of fans are anticipating is between #3 Ohio State and #21 Arizona State. OSU is the heavy favorite here, but it's the feature matches that are piquing fans interest. Specifically, Snyder vs Hall (where Hall has beaten Snyder before in the past) as well as Bo Jordan vs Zahid Valencia. The last 2 duals to note are #19 Rutgers vs #29 Princeton in "Battle at the Birthplace" where they will take their dual to High Point Solutions Stadium (where Rutgers plays their football games). The last one may be the biggest/best matchup of the weekend where #5 Missouri takes on #7 Virginia Tech. Here are the rankings for week 2 of the 2016-2017 season. One thing to keep in mind; It's been calculated that with the algorithm that is used for the rankings, it takes 14 matches in order for a wrestler to reach their equilibrium rankings. If the wrestler is a true freshman, or this is their first season of Division I wrestling, then it will take a few weeks before their rankings "averages out". There wasn't much movement in the individual rankings. Just your true freshman making some good leaps finally getting some matches. In dual rankings, there wasn't too much of a change except Penn State slides into the #2 position after coming up with the same record as Oklahoma State for the predicted dual record. The tie-breaker falls to Oklahoma State which puts them in 1st place. Ohio State and Iowa come in at a tie for 3rd, with Ohio State winning the tie-breaker there. In 5th place is Missouri. For tournament rankings, it sure didn't take long for Penn State to take over the number 1 position. In just 1 week, Penn State jumped from 6th all the way to first. Rounding out the top 5 is Oklahoma State at #2, Ohio State #3, Iowa at #4, and Missouri at #5. Virgina Tech is just .4 ("point 4") points out of 5th place. Week 2 is already here, looks like there will be a few good matchups this coming weekend. One of the highlights will be the Penn State vs Stanford dual, more specifically the matchup between true freshman Nick Suriano vs #8 Connor Schram. I am releasing the week 1 pickem contest feature matches a couple days early....I'm a little anxious for this season to get underway Same rules as the past 2 years. There are 20 feature matches to choose from. You can submit picks for anywhere from 0, to all 20 picks. Keep in mind, you have to make a selection in at least 10 (1/2) of the feature matches in order for your score to be counted in the weekly and season long leaderboards. Right now, it looks like there are going to be 15 total weeks for the pickem contest (16 weeks, but no selections for week 9). So that would mean you'll have to make a selection in at least 150 feature matches in order for your score to count. Remember, there will be prizes for the top 3 people at the end of the season. These are the final rankings prior to the big stage. There are 2 questionable rankings this week in Bo Nickal dropping to #3 in 174 pound weight class, and Sam Brooks dropping to #14 in 184 pound weight class. Both were winners of their conference tournament. Also, Jason Nolf stays in the #1 spot, despite being beaten by Isaiah Martinez in the B1G finals. Anomolies like this will get looked at during the offseason. Here are the rankings to get ready for conference tournaments. If you're not aware of what this is... Tourney Time is a bracket-pool type of fantasy option that I created last year. It's similar to NCAA basketball brackets where you can have a group of people that you want to compete against. You fill out your bracket, 1 wrestler at each weight. Each wrestler, based on their SEED, is assigned a point value. You are only able to use 1000 points across your ten selections. For a tie-breaker, there are 3 questions 1st place team points, 2nd place team points, and 3rd place team points. One thing to note, because entering these results is EXTREMELY time-intensive, I can't guarantee that these will be updated real-time. I will do my best, but it could be a day or two before all results are entered. Again, just like everything else on WrestleStat, THIS IS ALL FREE! How does it work: PreSeeds can be setup based on what we believe they will be, but once the official PreSeeds are released, then they will get updated. Any group coordinators are able to setup the PreSeeds. Keep in mind, if you set the PreSeeds, you are setting them up for all groups for that tournament, not just the group that you are coordinating. After PreSeeds are set, from your group admin page, you can send out a mass-email to all of the people registered in your group to send them your own custom message (something like, "hey, set your picks!"). Each participant can then go to the group, and make their selections. Once the tournament has started, the group admin/coordinators are able to enter match results, or they can wait for me. After working on this for a few days with the Penn State fans, WrestleStat has come up with tournament rankings. These rankings incorporate ALL 3 point possibilities to come up with a team ranking. Those include placement, advancement, AND bonus points. Bonus points are calculated by the average number of bonus points vs opponents also ranked in the top 32. Then that value is multiplied by the average number of wins that a wrestler will receive, based on their ranking, in the NCAA tournament. Then that number is multiplied by 0.75 to accommodate the tougher competition that they'll see at the national tournament. Add those points together for a team and you get the projected tournament points, as well as projected finish.
