  1. Thought for sure this topic would have already started, but after looking at brackets and doing my predictions, I can now see why there is no talk about this Sectional......CASTLE RUNS AWAY WITH IT. They have a legit shot to win the first 11 weight classes, and heck they could even win all 14 on a good day! Only 1 kid not seeded top 4 (Rolley at 195) and I wouldn't count him out from pulling off a couple upsets. With this sectional losing Mt.Vernon, it loses a lot of depth and talent.

    Predictions:

    106: Casebolt, Rice, Hall, Kirchgessner

    113: Annakin, Horty, Overton, Yeh

    120: Bealmear, Teague, Tucker, Barrett

    126: Willis, Craig, Hollowell, Graham

    132: Clopton, Craig, Schaefer, Brockers

    138: Ramsey, Fehrenbacher, Brockman, Ayer

    145: Ninke, McNutt, Hawhee, Durcholz

    152: Williams, Nunn, Blair, Pemberton

    160: Farmer, Rodgers, Folz, Pollock

    170: Dowell, Garnett, Brown, Belli

    182: McKinley, Mohler, Sturgeon, Lichlyter

    195: Barclay, Gahagen, Rolley, Shaw

    220: Norman, Huggins, Sulawske, Porter

    285: Lofton, Ohlsen, Hughes, McManus

Last time I checked all these boys lace up the same way.  I would not count anyone out now.  I'm pretty sure the boys on Lincoln Ave and the boys on the hill carry some pride and come from programs that have a long history of competing.  There's 2-3 on both teams that could make a lot of noise.  Yes, Mt. Vernon is a loss of depth and talent, but Memorial and Reitz both beat them in duals this year.  I'm pretty sure these teams will not lie down because the opposing wrestlers singlet says CASTLE or anything else for that matter.  Castle is a good upcoming team but they are not MATER DEI as evident in the 46-15 score earlier in the year.

  2. Great write up Hook. I'll put in my 2 cents worth.

I too noticed the crowd size. The roads weren't that bad, so not sure where all the faithful were at. At this time of the year, if you don't get at the Paradise Center early, you're fight for a seat, concessions and bathro breaks, not this year. With the talent there is here down home, and the level of competition, I was a little disappointed in the size of support.

106-While Egli and Casebolt are clearly the 2 front runners, Egli is just way too much for Casebolt.

113-I look forward to the Annakin and Horty rematch. Great to see Annakin back. There for a second, with his quickness and slick single leg, I thought I was seeing Konrath. Talented kid and should make some noise at state.

120- Luigs was too much for the field. He looked a little disgruntled after his win, maybe cause he was caught a little off guard from the freshman. Watch out for Bealmer in years to come.

126-In my opinion, the worst finals match of the day. After building a lead and going into the 3rd, Willis sprawled out on the mat for the whole period. In any other match, these refs we had would have called stalling. Not in this case. Good job by Craig(Re) trying to make something happen, just fell victim.

132-HUGE shout out to Embry. Probably the biggest shocker of the day. Knocking off one of Castles top guns and coming up just short against Elpers(No) who is having a great year. Very entertaining match.

138-Jourdan is going to make some big noise here at this weight. Definately see these 2 again in the finals at sectionals. Joudan made some sloppy mistakes that made this match closer than what it actually appeared before the fall. He's clearly the stronger of the 2 and I expect to see Jordan clean up his mistakes in route to Bankers. It won't be close in their rematch.

    145-ALL LEE

152-possibly the toughest weight class there yesterday led by EMD Senior Lehman. Castles big fresan Nunn didn't back down from anyone. He beat a tough Williams(Me) who was battling flu like symptoms. I look forward to see these 3 again.

    Don't overlook this freshman.

160-While He was the favorite coming in and did take home the SIAC title, Farmer was battled by a tough Carr.

170-Dowell looked impressive. Completed dominated his finals for Garnett. I was a little suprised at the outcome.

182-In a rematch from just a coue days ago where Castle came away with an OT victory, Brown came out to take an early 5-2 lead before falling to yet another inj. Default. This kid is tough and I hope the inj bug Is done heading into the state series. We should see these 2 battling it out again

195-Wilderman is poised for a trip to Bankers with the year he's having. He didn't disappoint yesterday either. This kid is an athlete.

220-Good day for yet another Boots

285-I think this field is open for grabs

Refs- Absolutely atrocious. They reminded me of the NFL commercial where the 4 refs are contemplating on what call should be made, yet still messed up. Come on SIAC, as the Hook stated, these kids deserve better.

Coaches- What would a wrestling event be without the echoing sound of Coach Zuber. Love his passion and coaching style.

Was Coach Harmon under illness, did the calls go his way, or did his wrestlers just go out and perform without flaw. I didn't see the normal Harmon out there. Maybe it was the comfortable chairs?

Same goes for Centrals coach Lamant, fairly calm.

Willis went in 3rd 4-2.  Willis was smart in this approach to keep him out of trouble although this should have definitely been a stall.  Not even a warning was issued.  It appeared from the stands that Craig had a 45 degree tilt that was not called as well.  Craig will get another chance this week.  Look for a great matchup.  Hats off to Willis for having a great year.  Look out for Craig he is peaking.
