  1. Seems like the person in charge is pretty low class in hosting the event. I guess Shenandoah was/is scheduled to take part in it. He basically threw the coach under the bus for considering to drop out. I'm sure that coach is here and I would not blame him for the reason that was given by the Ohio goofball (probably a Suckeyes fan). I stuck up for our Hoosier brethren. Even other Ohio posters called this guy out. See how he responds when I questioned how he can't entice more of our historically dominant teams to attend.

  2. Just my imo, but to increase interest in the sport at various schools, I would follow high school football. Decrease the super duals and individual tournaments. Set a weekday like Thursday that the only event is wrestling in the school for a 1 on 1 dual meet. The biggest matches in our area are the 1 on 1 duals. Not necessarily the invitational types or super duals.

JMILL alive here and just couldn't type as I was so giddy with the accolades the #TheCounty boys and the #PainTrain boys were getting. I have been celebrating things like My Cubs winning the World Series, My Michigan Wolverines building up to a clash with OSU and eventually Alabama, and My Colts beating people they shouldn't beat (Packers), and there have been limited threads bashing my ISWA organization..................Then Mr. Trump gets elected...................basically its all coming up Aces for JMILL right now so give me a few weeks to just soak it all in and enjoy the moment and I will be back with you when the other shoe drops !!!!.....LOL

    Go Blue! Whoop the *uckeyes!

  4. What also makes it hard to add someone like Mt. Vernon is that not only is it far away for school night travel but several of the PAC schools are in the Eastern time zone while Mt. Vernon is in the Central time zone.

Yeah I'm still waiting for Indiana to be on one time. You know that's why we went to DST. Such a lie. I'd be in favor of Indiana completely going to Central time and I live near Ohio which is also Eastern like most of our state. I can catch up on Ohio sports highlights and then catch Indiana highlights.

I get that every other school in Indiana basically is going to cut down on travel time because Mt. Vernon is tucked so tight in the corner (see map if you don't believe me), I was simply stating that how much of about a 30-20 min travel time deduction per school really hold weight in the argument?

If we are that concerned with distance and travel time then why don't we just narrow conferences down to sectors of schools located the absolute closest to one another?

Someone should set up Mt Vernon vs Angola in some sport. Better make the venue halfway.

  6. First off, I think the IHSAA should limit the 2 day events. After the first one the rest of them should count as 4 schedule points.

Secondly, I'm not the biggest fan of the Tuesday/Thursday thing from a coaching standpoint. It pretty much makes the week worthless as Monday and Wednesday are lighter practices in regards to teaching and technique. Most kids aren't fans of making weight like that either even if they aren't cutting any weight.

More weeknight duals are good, but at the same time teams need to have good matches scheduled in order to draw fans. Fans won't come out to see a bunch of forfeits or a blowout. It's quite a tightrope to walk in order to get things going.

Understand your point on having two week day events. Still think one of those two days would be beneficial to mark as wrestling ' s day. Also agree on the forfeits as well.

  7. Even more so the two day dual events are big time killers. You even lose parents at those events.

Yes indeed. I'd like having a Tuesday and Thursday team dual schedule. I also think conferences could align a schedule where the better teams can face off towards the end of the team dual schedule. I'm sure that wouldn't necessarily be economical on the travel budget. Also the whole IHSAA schedule mandates hurt as well.

  8. Too many super duals or invitation style tournaments. Need more regular duals. Why are football and basketball games heavily attended? It's because you have one fanbase vs another to build a rivalry type atmosphere. Have a set day or days each week like football Friday nights. The team duals need to be featured just as much as individual events.

  9. You are totally right. Not really kid we want in there anyways, but it's always fun to talk about their ridiculous excuses. The ones who quit after doing it their whole lives are definitely concerning, but my experience has been those are few and far between and when they do arise it's often because they are stuck behind a guy who's better than them and are tires of being JV

That's why we have to make it fun. Number one reason any kid quits is that they aren't having fun

It's definitely a difficult sport mentally as it is physically. All kids hate cutting weight to some degree and that's mostly the mental aspect. Many can become frustrated in getting techniques down after practicing many repetitions. Many don't realize how close they really are to their goals and what progress they make. My opinion is they put way too much stock in the win/loss column. Hard to get kids and adults to focus on the small details of improvement. The wins will come if you keep chopping wood.

  10. The trend is kids are bigger, I think a lot can be attributed to more males start school later. However, adding a weight as heavy as 250 would do the same as adding 98lbs. Each end of the weight classes show more forfeits and obviously less participation than the middle. the 132-138-145 range shows the least amount of forfeits.

Yeah, I'd say 132 to 160 would probably be my estimate of the majority of teams' rooms. With all the media coverage about bigger, faster, stronger athletes and obesity being a stronger trend, will those weights shift up in 15 or so years? I'll have to find my list when I jotted down classes for 15 + classes. I definitely changes some classes through trying to spread out the classes so that they were incremental throughout.

  11. Add back the middle weight and keep the 182lbs weight, most teams don't have extra big guys especially one over 250lbs.

I wouldn't be opposed to that, but aren't the trends showing future kids will be heavier? That's why I proposed 250 besides it is halfway between the other 2 with the biggest discrepancy. I'd be for 17 weight classes, but that's not realistic when 14 is hard to reach for some.

  12. That's right. There was a last-minute rule addition that gave points to transfer-ineligible underclassmen who had previously advanced to at least semi-state. It was largely Carmel questions that instigated the rule, they got a few points because of it, and they later went on to earn enough points for voting consideration by a very slim margin and ended up voted in. When the family of the kid who got those transfer points announced they're moving again, Carmel surrendered their spot since they wouldn't have reached consideration without the points.

This stuff is why I made my earlier point. Fix the schedule and do it the right way IHSAA and quit "full nelsoning" the IHSWCA.
