  1. Maybe we could award "Honorary" State Championship medals based on class each year:

    3A - Zero (0) Honorary State Champs

    2A - Seven (7) Honorary State Champs

    1A - Fourteen (14) Honorary State Champs

These would be much like the honorary degrees given by universities - like when Obama got a degree from Notre Dame for giving a speech there.  These State champs could use these "championship medals" to lure the 1,000s of unsuspecting college coaches who have no idea how a classless system works into recruiting them and giving them full-ride scholarships.

Additionally, we could award "Honorary" State Team Championships based on tenure:

Every five (5) years, an Honorary State Team Championship will be awarded to all member schools of the IHSAA who have not received an actual (aka "real") team championship during the proceeding five (5) years.  Member schools are entitled to a state championship every five (5) years based on tenure.

Wow, 1000's of coaches, I guess the sport has grown more than reported.  But since most states are classed, you may be right about them not knowing about classless systems.  Funny thing, I have had several conversations with college coaches and they all said the same thing, why not class, class one sport class them all and they attend other state tournaments because they see more kids.  Oh, and in many ways academics is classed but that's another topic.  Maybe the mirror will break...

  2. Stop comparing INDIVIDUAL wrestling tournaments to basketball and baseball which is a TEAM sport only

Stop drawing logically unsound conclusions.  i didn't directly compare them, it was in response to earlier posts that basketball was ruined when classed.  Funny thing is that most of the student-athletes and smaller schools don't think that at all.  Obviously, the IHSAA considers wrestling an individual sport which is why it isn't classed.

  3. My understanding is that the purpose of student-athletics is to teach life skills such as work ethic, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and goal setting...  The main goal wasn't to determine the best wrestler in the state (although it's a great byproduct).  The development of well rounded individuals was the goal.  Key to that would be participation.  I wrestled for a large school and my sons for a smaller school, there is no comparison.  Workout partners, facilities and even numbers help with fund raising.  I once read something to the effect of "One of the biggest obstacles facing wrestling and it's growth is staring  back at us in the mirror".  Unfortunately, I tend to agree.

I still hear about a local 1A school that won state years ago in basketball, doesn't seem to bother them.  Basketball was already losing attendance before it was classed.  If you talk to most smaller schools, they aren't disappointed years later.

  4. Blood time is well, what it is.  Looked to me like the ref signaled blood time about the time the cradle happened.  Tough for sure.  I would like to see blood time revisited, but, doubt it will.

Cottey, wasn't in the best angle but thought his headlock call was if'y.  Thought the late takedown call was correct, kid was behind with leg hooked.  Cottey had whizzer but didnt look effective.  Another tough one especially first round.  One of those hate to see a loser things.

  5. The rules clearly state a student can go to whatever school he wants without penalty unless he switches schools, so quit your crying and yelling foul and learn to play with the big boys. If you don't think PM,EMD,Yorktown,Mishawaka,CP ect... hasn't been getting move-ins over the years for whatever reason than your delusional!!!

Says the man that used to bleed Perry blue...

  6. I believe back in the 80's tech falls were counted toward that 155 number Lance puts up. 155 "Falls" was a national record at one point. Still OMG! 155 out of 177. Ridiculous

Don't recall a  tech fall in the early 80's, no mercy.  :).  Not sure when TF was started.

  7. A little surprised, but seems like AD's look for reasons to cancel vs having.  Realize wind and drifting and concern for safety, but around 2 inches was low end of forecast.  Heck, might as well have just canceled yesterday.  :).  Today may end up better than next week and with all the basketball games being re-scheduled, kind of doubt it happens.  Thought Elwood had a game scheduled Monday night.  Guess we will see.
