  1. Are you serious? Caught really? Schoeber took a shot and van horn threw him to his back.. Don't know how that is getting caught man? Van horn is a super tough frosh for a 45 pounder and he was in deep 4 or 5 times. Great match but don't try to take away a good win from a young man that works his butt off. I just think that's a little ridiculous that you say he got caught. If you don't wanna get "caught" don't shoot with your arms wide open and get tossed to your back.

Great win for Van Horn.  Kid is very good.  Impressive that a freshman can come in and beat a top 4 wrestler at 145.  I'm sure these two will see each other again.  By saying Schober got "caught" you imply it was a fluke.  We will see next time if it was

  2. What makes wrestling so great is you always have a chance to win unlike other sports where you have a full game to play, wrestling can be won any time w/ one play, as coaches the message to our wrestlers shouldn't be "this kid is better than you so don't go wrestle him you don't have a chance" there is always a chance. Good for the central coaches to put there kid in to wrestle Konrath.

But then Central sits Smith against Castle.  I know it's not because he is outmatched but why didn't he wrestle?  Just curious.  I guess he is healthy if he wrestled the rest of the day

  3. #8 Burk Van Horn pinned #4 Bailey Schoeber

How did it go down?  Van Horn is very good, but I'm a little surprised that he could be Schoeber.  What was the score when the fall happened?  Was Van Horn winning and dominating or did he "catch" Schoeber?

  4. Agreed!!!

Both Konrath and Ferguson are fantastic records and both could end up being state champions in a month, but Konrath should be commended for bumping up a weight class to wrestle another top notch wrestler.  I think it's fantastic that he didn't worry about the possibility of having a loss on his record.  That's probably part of the reason he's as good as he is.  To be the best you have to wrestle the best.  Evansville Semi-State will have a few studs at 106 and 113.  Finals matches of Konrath vs. Egli and Ferguson vs. Smith are going to be great and all four will be very high on the podium at Banker's Life.

  5. I'll throw out my pre predictions before the seeds come out next week, but not knowing where everyone will end up makes it tough so some kids may not be at the weight I have them at, I'm going off most recent results I've seen....

Like I said some of these guys may not even be wrestling anymore or in the right weight class. We'll know more after this weekend and the seed meeting. Should be a great day of wrestling at the SIAC.

Looks pretty good to me.  I see a couple of places where I will disagree with you though.  At 138 Seng beat Schnell earlier this year in a tight one.  Seng has wrestled a brutal schedule and he has improved every week.  I'm not saying Schnell hasn't also, but I will take Seng in another close one.  I think you have the champ right at 152, but I think Weinzapfel beats Riegel in the semis to make the final.  I know Riegel won last night but I'm going to assume Weinzapfel picks it up a notch and wins the rematch.  I think Kyles from Harrision has dropped to 220.  If he has dropped he has to be the favorite there.

    Other notable weights/matches/wrestlers to watch

120 Behind Johnson and Brown it will be a three horse race for third.  Arney, Willis and Craig will battle it out

132 After watching Jourdan beat Davis last night he is the clear cut favorite.  Davis and Ramsey will be a battle to make the final

138 Maybe the deepest weight class of them all.  Seng and Schnell are favorites to make the final, but Petrig and Dixon are both tough kids and will compete hard

145 Williams and Smith should be a good one in the semis.  Who won the earlier match up?  Farmer and Matherly will look for an upset.  Another deep weight class

160 Looking forward to Kemper and Forzley.  Stotlar might have a thing or two to say about that though

170 Kempf has won a couple of close ones over Huesling.  Can he make it three in the semis to make the final?

285 If Kyles has dropped to 220 then MD (Cox or Massey) should be the favorite

Can't wait to see the seeding for this one.  There will be some interesting matches in the semis, especially at 132, 138, 145 and 152.  Always a good day of wrestling.

Who has an upset pick of the day?

  6. I don't know if I can take Wrestleman's spot. I will do my best to put a good prediction out there though...look for it early next week.

The paper says Ferguson won by fall in 28 seconds!!!

I'll try to have mine out by midweek as well.  There are lots of good wrestlers in the SIAC this year.  Maybe the best year for top end talent we've seen in awhile.  Even with that though I think we will see some tough matches in the semis and 3rd/4th place matches.  There are some clear cut favorites I know, but we should still have some interesting matches.  I'll try to go top 3 or 4 each weight class.  Some weight classes get a little cloudy after 1 and 2 though.

  7. What was ferguson score? Fall? I heard cradle but no final?

Ferguson wbf early in the first period.  He scored a takedown and immediately locked up a cradle.  About 30 seconds.  Team score was 58-9 MD.  Reitz won by fall at 113 and decision at 152.

  8. I know very little about Partee other than he is very tall.  I would guess that he has learned how to use his height to an advantage and length can pose problems for some wrestlers.  However, Kemper is a fireball and moves his feet well.  It will definitely be a match in contrasting body types, but I think I like Kemper to take it.  He's got one of the best practice partners in the state to help him prepare too.
