  1.

That is incorrect.  There are 9 teams, but only 2 weight classes (145 and 152) have 9 wrestlers.  If there are no changes to those, we will have a pigtail match with the winner advancing to the round of 8.  Every other weight class will be just like an 8-team tourney.

I heard that this was true....we have some JV wrestlers entered to wrestle in the same weight class as our varsity guys. Guess we will see tomorrow.

  2. centerville and union county wrestle tonight. Can someone get the team score and the match ups by wieght class?

Match started at 106...results so far:

    106 UC pin

    113 UC dec

    120 CE dec

    126 CE FF

    130 UC pin

    138 CE pin

    145 UC pin

    152 UC maj

  3. This is a discussion board so if you really feel a kid should be ranked state why and where you think he should be ranked on this thread or the rankings thread. Every kid that has a solid record cannot be ranked, so the question to ask yourself is has said wrestler beat any ranked wrestlers, and if not there is your answer. The people who do the rankings are not perfect but very very rarely have I seen a unranked wrestler show up at state and place, although there are exceptions. You'll notice on the ranking there is a noteable win area, and if your wrestler with his solid record has not wrestled anyone mentioned then again there is your answer....

I agree with you but look how many ranked kids do not have notable wins this year that are ranked...Sometimes the kids that are ranked don't see anybody else that is ranked for one reason or another until late in the season, but they are still ranked..are they deserving..proabably, but the majority of the ranked wrestlers are from big schools. The only small schools that have ranked wrestlers are wrestlers that made an impact last season either at state or semi state...just an observation

  4. Actually we thrive on that lack of recognition.

We get little to no attention and we like it like that.

Recently we have had a ranked wrestler a couple of years.  He always ended up placing higher than ranked because of our weaker schedule. He had few matches against quality opponents.  I do not see that changing any time soon.

We are working hard to get a full team and enough quality kids to compete in duals but it is a tough road for a school where all the best athletes are discouraged from wrestling.

We currently have a quality 132, but in a stacked weight class he is not getting any attention, nor should he.  Maybe next year he will get some love.  It hurts when your wrestling partners are the 145 and 113 because no one else can make you better.  He might just make it to SS this year, then he could get some attention going into next year.

Our dual record is poor and will not improve significantly in the near future but we will crank out a few kids that will turn some heads.  And the less people know about them, to me, the better.

Recognition comes in a few weeks when you are standing on the podium.

Well said...I always liked to fly under the radar as well, but it is nice to have a little recognition for all of the hard work you put in...There was nothing better than being from a little school and knocking off a wrestler from Perry Meridian, Cathedral, Evansville Reitz, etc.

  5. Cody Phillips is from Union County, not Union City. People must not know much about these small schools  ;D

The funny thing is both of these small schools are in the same conference and have the same school colors...red, white, and blue....and when both are at different places their abbreviation is UC...when they wrestle at conference Union County is UCo and Union City is UCi! Pretty commical stuff.

And I think that kid from Turkey Run was named Pribble... ;-)

The smaller schools will never get the love as the big schools....even back in 2004 when Union County went to the semi-state vs Perry Meridian...nothing....not to mention their only losses that year were to North Central and Perry Meridian...but thats how it goes I guess!

  6. Former Wrestler,

It does matter.  You just pointed it out, SEEDING MEETING.

When teams like H'Town, Lincoln don't wrestle all TEC teams, then that throws off the seeds.  A kid from Union City could be 18 and 3.   A kid from Lincoln could be 19-3.   But Union city has wrestled tougher competition and is a better wrestler.  But Lincoln get the higher seed because, they never wrestled common opponent, or if they did they both won.  They never wrestled each other.  And then it comes down to win percentage and Lincoln gets the nod.

    That is why it matters!

Well if the TEC teams want to wrestle each other then maybe some of the teams need to get better...that's why some schools don't wrestle TEC schools...they want to get better ...it doesn't so them any good to wrestle some of the conference teams who only have 5-8 wrestlers...if you want to guarantee that you get the best seed then don't lose. The schools that wrestle the better competition will prevail either way.

  7. How bout individual results.

145 Wyatt pin over Richey 6-0

    152 Anguiano over Jordan 12-0

    160 Walters over VanCamp 18-0

    170 Burk over Philbeck 24-0

    182 Antonoglou over Robinson 30-0

    195 Bocanegra over Calderon 33-0

    220 Besecker FFT 39-0

    285 Henry FFT 45-0

    106 VanCamp over Harris 45-6

    113 Terriquiz over Jenkinson 48-6

    120 Tipton over Shamer 48-12

    126 Tomforde FFT 48-18

    132 Terriquiez over Million 51-18

    138 Killion over Ring 51-21

  8. What day and time does the TEC start?

Hows come it seems as though all Conference teams do not wrestle each other?  Are some scared?

The TEC is on the 21st at Centerville....I'm not sure about start time...I would guess 9:00. As far as teams not wrestling each other I wouldn't say its because they are scared...there is just much better competition that some of the TEC schools look for...it doesn't make much difference if they wrestle each other during the season except for seeding purposes since the TEC Champ is decided on the individual tournament ans not the dual season.

  9. I'm guessing Ayersman constantly gets the nod because his two titles were won at weight classes other than 103 and Phillips got his two at 103 and didn't experience the same success at 112.  Just my guess.  Both are awesome wrestlers without a doubt.

I believe Ayersman was in that same 103 pound weight class when they were freshman and he finished 3rd (I think) getting beat by Kief from Franklin Community who Phillips stuck in the state finals. I think it will be a good match but I think Phillips intensity level will be to much for Ayersman. If Campbell could have done that four six minutes last year instead of only four I'm not sure we would be having this discussion.

  10. Toughest weight class?

I think it will be 138 when adding in McCoy from Franklin County, undefeated an Jeff Classic winner and Cody Handley from Northeastern, undefeated an winner at ECIC defeating ranked Blanton.

I agree that 138 will be the toughest weight....should make for a fun two days.

As far as VanHook upsetting Phillips...haha good one!

  11. From the current state rankings thier are 35 ranked wrestler that will be wrestling in the classic and I think I missed a few.

Here are the ranked guys that I found...sorry if I missed any:

    106: #4 Kuhn

    113: #6 Buckley , #8 Frane, #10 Harvey, #12 King

    120: #1 Todd, #6 Krumlauf, #8 Gettinger, #9 Johns

    126: #2Phillips, #7 VanHook

    132: #6 Moody, #14 Larson

    138: #3 James, #6 Venezia, #8 Farrell,  #16 Hupp

    145: #5 Corsaro

    152: #2 Rueger, #12 Gillum

    160:#2 Harvey

    170: #1 Willis, #7 King, #10 McGinley, #12 Ardizzone

    182: #13 Albertson

    195: #3 Raypole, #6 Early, #14 Nickell

    220: #2 Knura, #10 Kinney, #11 Douglass, #14 Gearlds

    285: #5 Walker, #6 Bernard

I think that's all. Looks like there are some deep weight classes...I'm sure there will be others who aren't ranked that will make some noise as well.

  12. Last year it appeared they separated the top 4-6 in each weight then blind draw the rest, normally has been a complete draw, but thankfully they did something for the good of it an hope it continues.

I like the complete blind draw....makes interesting when some of the studs meet up in the first or second round...as far as brackets...I bet nobody sees them until the morning of....and they are sure to change with 32 teams there and wrestlers out for injury, sickness, miss weight, etc.

  13. How many weigh ins would be necessary to be eligible for post season?  Seems like that might be a problem if you start in week 8.

You need 6 weigh ins with one being at scratch weight and I believe one has to be in January before the sectional tournament starts.

  14. 32 teams are again entered in the Spartan Classic which will be held at the historic Spartan Bowl located at Connersville Middle School on December 28-29.

    Teams entered include:

    Batesville

    Bedford No. Lawrence

I think the teams have changed some since last year. I know Knightstown is there this year and were not previously...I also think there area couple other new teams...not for sure...can anybody spread some light on this??

  15.

Three for Union County 106-Daniel McClurg 113-Cole Bowers 120-Jimmy Gregory. All three are future studs.

I've seen the UC kids wrestle this past weekend...here are my thoughts....McClurg needs to get tougher...he got tossed around a lot Saturday at Milan. I don't think UC's schedule gets any easier, but I'm sure it gets a lot tougher!

Bowers has some potential...Saw him make a pretty good come back down 5-0 to the Milan kid...I think he needs some more experience...I also think he is more of a 106 than a 113..He looked pretty undersized.

Gregory has a good build to him..He gets a little out of control sometimes, but I think he has the most potential of the three...He is definitely an energetic young man...makes him pretty exciting to watch.

Just some of my opinions..don't mean to step on any toes.
