LOL....go back and look at your statement. YOU said..."2 years ago I watched NC"
It actually said a couple of years ago because I couldn't remember if it was last year or two years ago...I was referring to last year though..sorry for the confusion!
-
One of us is clearly wrong...I recall that year Mullins wrestled and beat 2 ranked opponents, Tyler Clark of South Dearborn & Justin Kieffer of Roncalli.
2010-2011 Team Regional at Shelbyville from the IHSAA website
Match 1: Roncalli 52, East Central 12.
Match 2: Columbus East 40, New Castle 28.
Championship: Roncalli 42, Columbus East 13.
New Castle did not wrestle their starters in every weight class
I think you are talking about two years ago, and I didn't watch the team Regional that year so I can't comment on that one.
-
First, I only addressed the circumstances surrounding THIS year. Secondly, I seem to recall some team regional match-ups the last few years with Roncalli, that were all-out wars.
I watched New Castle wrestle two years ago at the team Regional and none of their studs wrestled then either....yes they did bring more than 6 wrestlers, but still they were not the varsity guys.
-
zero % chance? Wow! I saw how good your math was earlier on a post so I won't put much stock into that comment but its real sad to say something like that about any wrestler at this level who has earned a right to be here. Everyone at this level had worked their butts off to earn the right to be at regional and though alot of wrestlers have a slim chance to even get out of the first round, they still have that chance...and its not a zero% chance. Give these guys some credit dude. I would never say any wrestler has zero chance at this level...i have seen many times a #1 upset by #4 and #2 by #3. Those are just numbers and stranger things have happened. I can say I don't see handley getting beat by anyone until midway through state finals our that babcock won't lose this weekend or that phillips is untouchable this year but that doesn't mean I don't think they would get upset in a match before that point because realistically it can happen. I give all wrestlers at this point in the season all respect as they have earned the right to get here and I wish them all the best and good luck. many will wrestle the last match of their career saturday so to those guys I also say job well done.
I said a 0% chancee because I have seen both Killion and Manning wrestle...I have seen them wrestle common opponents...even on an off day Manning will still beat Killion....I haven't seen Messer, so I might be wrong with him and Gettinger, but I just don't see it. I'm sure that Knightsown's schedule isn't anywhere close to as tough as Connersville's. I give wrestlers at this point credit for making it this far, but it's hard to give credit to some when they advanced because their Sectional isn't very strong in their weight class.
-
hartman won't beat hale. Babcock won't get beat.
They may not but those are matches that have a realistic chance of happening...there is absolutley 0% chance of Killion beating Manning and Messer beating Gettinger....it just ain't gonna happen!
-
I thought it was a well wrestled match. I missed the illegal head scissors, but I think Malloy would have finished the take down if they would have not called it which would have made the match 3-1. After watching I think the next time they wrestle it will be another low scoring match and whoever scores the first take down wins.
-
My guess is that he has been around wrestling long enough to know that his team's chances of victory were negligible. Marry that with the fact that he has 3 seniors with legitimate shots at winning a state championship. The death of the team format has already been decided. He probably didn't want to risk injury to his seniors. Plus, if any of them do win a crown, it will bring some notoriety to the program, and help bring kids into it for future NC squads.
As a former competitor, it feels wrong...but is absolutely the correct move, given the circumstances stated above.
This isn't the first year New Castle has done this....it seems like they have done this for the past several years.
-
If this is true, you can blame teams and coaches like this for the loss of the team tournament series. The problem is, I can't see New Castle's coach pulling this crap. He seems like too good of a coach to pull a stunt like this.
I heard this from some people that were there...not sure what the reason was for doing this.
-
Heard New Castle only brought 6 wrestlers tonight....just saying....
-
Any thoughts on the Connersville Team Regional
It seems the four schools, Jennings County, Connersville, Warren Central and New Castle are pretty evenly matched?
I think the winner of the Warren Central Connersville match will win it all...I'm taking Warren Central in a close match with Connersville!
-
I have nothing but respect for Coach Peck, and I was commenting on the post insinuating that he would not wrestle his best people. I think as long as a wrestler is not injured he would wrestle his best people.....
And that may have been the case that a wrestler was sick or not 100%, but the last couple of years I have seen New Castle wrestle at the team Regional, their studs are not always in the line up.
-
Have respect for this sport, is all I can say about this....
My comment in now way is a lack of respect for New Castle or their program or the sport....I have tons of respect for Coach P and all of the Trojan wrestlers..I'm just stating my opinion on what I think will play out.
-
Anyone think that we will see this match-up tomorrow at Connersville? #10 Reidling from Waren Central vs #1 Mullins from New Castle.
I would be surprised if Mullins wrestles at all tomorrow...New Castle has been known to sit some of their kids at the team regional and it seems Mullins has had a difficult time maintain the weight on Saturdays so why even bother on a Wednesday?
-
absolutely! I still say port wins but he won't walk away with it. Aren't port and fuller 2-2 against each other? And frasur is the wild card cause he has skills to win this too.
Port and Fuller are 1-1 against each other this year, and so is Frasur and Fuller...Not sure if Port and Frasur have wrestled. I expect this to be a tight weight class, but I like Fullers chance because he does have an "easier" road to the finals, but lets not forget this is the Regional and there are some really good wrestlers that maybe we don't know anything about.
-
I'm gonna go with McKinley and I'm gonna be that guy and say by fall! I think McKinley will hit him with a nasty headlock! (I would be really surprised if this actually happens, but if it does I will be the first to say I told you so!!)
-
i am with you on yatsko...you can flip a coin there in that first round match. I just dont see manning making it to the finals. IF he can beat killion, i dont see him beating handley. No disrepect to the kid, manning is tough but if killion is on, it should be a good one. He went the distance with handley at sectionals. who knows though, handley pinned hale in the championships and didnt look too concerned during the match, yet killion took handley the distance and handley was visibly frustrated. guess thats why they have to actually wrestle the matches lol.
IF he gets past Killion???? I wouldn't be surprised if he pins Killion. Manning is by far a better wrestler. You obviously haven't seen Manning wrestle. Manning wrestle a heck of a match with McCoy in the finals at Franklin County. I think Handley will win against Manning, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it was a Manning McCoy finals again.
-
i do, however, agree 100% about 138 being the toughest class. i just dont see handley getting beat and i dont see hale getting beat by hartman in first round. I also agree that 145 is really tough. a name nerither of us have in the top 4 there could very well be noe. he has been there before and even big brother noe beat feller when noe was a 4 seed and feller a 1 seed a couple years ago. maybe history repeats itself and could turn that whole weight class upside down. 132 is really tough too. This is always fun to do though and see what possible matchups could be.
Yea I miscounted in there somewhere....I think Handley will have his hands full with Manning...he definitely has the tougher road to the finals...as for 145...I don't see any way Feller loses to Noe...I do think there is a name at 145the we don't have and that is the Yatsko boy from Milan...dangerous matchup for Webster

You only have 26 wrestlers advancing from the Franklin County Sectional and 25 from the Tri Sectional??? No way these two sectionals will have close to the same number of wrestlers getting out.
-
I believe they met a few times last year and if my memory serves me right, Jared did beat him at state last year
Yes he did..pinned him with one of the nastiest headlocks I have ever seen!
-
Thanks for all the updates...team scores??
I left before they announced but I'm pretty sure Connersville won but don't quote me on that!

I don't know who the jv kid was...I know and have seen Killion and he won't beat Manning.
