  1. I really don't see Indiana State getting wrestling back.  Most people around there don't even want the football team.

On the other point, it's a shame there isn't middle school wrestling in some areas like Terre Haute (and Fort Wayne).  It's also a shame some schools only give it 5-6 weeks.  There are schools, especially in the Indianapolis area, that have a 3-month season, which is as long as most high schools.  These kids have a lot more experience when they get to high school. The advanced kids are going to get their mat time no matter what, but this extra time really benefits those "fringe" wrestlers.

  2. Some old data, but the position still holds true.  Football should/needs to be excluded from Title IX.  Then we still start seeing wrestling teams come back.

The General Accounting Office, which gathers data for Congress, has determined that, as of 1999, women's teams outnumbered men's across the country by 330. In terms of players, however, men, despite casualties that included 2,648 wrestlers, still held an advantage of 69,000 participants.

The discrepancy -- in fact, the discrepancy and then some -- is attributable to football, which is what complicates all of this. What separates football from everything else is that 1) it requires a lot of athletes, 2) it makes a lot of money, and 3) women don't play it much.

Since football is such an anomaly, and since it supports the other sports at many schools, why not eliminate it from the formula and then match the numbers between men and women? The intent of Title IX was to ensure that public funding is committed on an equal-opportunity basis, but in many instances football doesn't require funding; it provides it.

  3. Didn't urijah faber try to come to the UFC. Yeah there would be good match ups in some weight classes and would expand the weight classes and the unified titles would be a good thing.

Yes, Faber will be coming over to the UFC as well.  There are some rumors out there about a possible Faber-Torres fight.

  4. Winner of Edgar-Maynard will take on the WEC winner of Henderson-Pettis to unify the title.  I would assume then the next title defense would almost have to be against the winner of Florian-Dunham since no real other highly rated 155 fights are sloted to occur soon.

Totally agree...thats why I think it's great that the WEC and UFC merged.

  5. While they're good they were pretty sloppy last year and with a coaching change who knows what's going to happen. I see Carroll and Garrett as both building up. Whitko was, but the change of coaches could make a hiccup for them in their rise. Until I see them all wrestle I stand by the prediction.

Yes, we have a very young coaching staff.  However, we have a great group of kids and very high expectations for this season.

  6. Works well for the WEC guys other than the lightweight division which had some WEC stars (Henderson, Varner, Cerone....) and now they have to hope to not be lost in the crowd of a talented UFC 155 division.

The UFC's lightweight division is very good, but it defnitely needs some new faces.  If Florian beats Dunham, are there any contenders left for the winner of Maynard-Edgar?  Not sure I'm ready to see Florian get another shot.
