  1. How can you say they're the "best kids" when they lost to the kids that they'll be put below?

Semi-state wrestlebacks absolutely make sense to me because there are so many mathematical injustices.  The ONLY two ways you can argue wrestlebacks at regional are these:

    1. Injury to a top guy who forfeits his semi and final matches at sectional and is therefore mis-seeded at regional.

    2. A very bad seeding injustice at sectional that puts the top 3 guys all on one side of the bracket and the 4th best guy takes second place, thus putting an undeserving kid as the 4th place against a sectional champ.

Arguing for wrestlebacks when both guys LOST the matches that put them in the position they're in fairly makes no sense.

Still a slight chance they are the 3rd and 4th best wrestlers at Regional (with the two guys who beat them 1and 2)

  2. The loser of that match is the 5th best wrestler in that class, based on the last 2 weeks of wrestling, plain and simple.  They both had their chance and blew it.  Johnson's the number 2 because he got smoked and Smiley's the number 3 because he lost to the second place guy.  That means whoever loses that match, based on 2 weeks of wrestling, DESERVES to be slotted 5th.  It doesn't matter that they're better than most regional losers--mathematically speaking, the didn't get slighted in the least.  One of them will have 2 losses over 2 weeks that will very justly slot them 5th.

I see your reasoning, but disagree. I think the best kids should advance each week and this is a potential case where they will not.

  3. Sorry, but if you are the 4 coming out of your sectional and you lose first round at regional, you're only the 5th best wrestler at your regional--at best.  You already showed you're behind 3 guys, then you show you're behind another by losing first round.  It doesn't matter that you're better than the 2,3,4 from the other sectional.  Mathematically speaking, there is NO reason for wrestlebacks at regional unless there's an injury to a top kid at sectional and he has to injury default a couple matches that cause him to enter regional as the wrong seed.

What about Brett Johnson vs Evan Smiley? Two State qualifiers both deserving to wrestle at New Castle, right?

It's not the end of the world that there are not full wrestle backs at Regionals, but it would ensure the best 4 move on.

  4. Bad referee?  He used inappropriate language, hurt or not, he has to own what he said.  It was clearly offensive enough for the referee to DQ him.  I tried to stay off this one because I know not everyone will see my point of view, which is fine, but we talk about this being a gentleman's sport and how we need to show respect and shake hands and on and on, but when a referee makes a judgement call and DQ's a wrestler for using inappropriate language, we attack the person who has the authority.  As the rule is written and interpreted, the referee was well within his right to make the call he did.  Look, the excuse that he was "injured" was used, however, it seems more like he was "hurt" considering he was planning on wrestling the remainder of the event, so perhaps the use of such language could have been avoided and this referee would not have been put in the position to make such a call.  Hopefully something is learned by the young man and he moves on to be a productive member of society.

    +1

We all make mistakes. As this poster says...we need to "own" them and learn from them.

I hope this young man figures it out and grows from it.

  5. Yes it will. But they are evenly matched and the bright side is that all four will most likely make it to state. NM will have a clean sweep of golden tickets for 126!

    1.) Mantel

    2.) Chastain

    3.) Moore

    4.) Beldon

What about Kenny from Perry? I have only seen him once this year, but He is tough. I think he will make it to state.

  6. Forte isnt moving from this weight and he wins another state title over lecount if lecount doesnt try cutting down

I don't think Lecount is going to switch weight classes. If he didn't avoid Cody Phillips as a Soph I don't see him bumping as a Senior...

  7. So life after wrestling begins...

I have no doubt the hard work, determination, and ferocity in which he approached wrestling will serve him well in his other pursuits.

Good luck Cody. It was a pleasure watching you wrestle and you leave behind an awesome legacy...

  8. All pins that day and two time runner up>four time champion, all pins and techs for four years.....inequality doesn't really work out...hmm.

Vinnie is a GREAT wrestler and seems like a great kid too (volunteering at cyo wrestling events, etc.) but I don't think he needs/wants anybody crying about him not getting OW at City even if he is deserving. He already has Tons of serious hardware, a great attitude, and a nice offer next year to boot...just enjoy watching the young man while you can. Wrestlers like him don't come around too often.

Congrats on 4th City Title Vinnie.

  9. Couldn't make it to FC today, but via track wrestling it looked like Aidan Kenny came to wrestle today! Of course the rest of Perry's lineup did too. I would think this would help Kenny move up in the rankings a bit.

What happened to Cash? I hope he is ok and will be back in action soon?
