  3. From the way it was explained the 1 1/2% rule just determines if a weigh-in is certified or not.  Remember you still need to get 6 certified weigh-ins.  I think the goal is for wrestlers to follow the weight loss plan from the start of the year.

I am not sure about the IHSAA suspending coaches.  That would be a questiong for them.

So you must have 6 certified weigh-ins for that what class?  ???

For example if I want to wrestler 132 at sections I must have 6 weigh-in for that class and the rest could be 138 or what ever I wrestle that week.

  4. Not sure.  He was a SSQ and finished 36-6 or something.  He won conference, beat Reed 4-3 in Sectional final and lost to Reed in Regional final.  Took me a while to figure out that Charlie Hill wasn't David Hill last year.  LOL

Maybe someone from L'Burg can enlighten us.

Not 100% sure on the type of injury he had (I was thinking neck injury), but it did prevent him from wrestling. David was good kid and I hate to see that happen to anybody.

  5.

Will be a great Sectional preview (trading Greensburg for Milan, Union County , and Oldenburg).

    MAt Stat

Does Oldenburg even have a team this year? I have heard nothing about them this year.

  6. Congratulations to JACOB CAVINS of Milan, IN for winning national championships in Greco-Roman and Freestyle at the 2012 Asics Kids National Championships in Orem, Utah. Held June 25-27. He went undefeated in both styles with three pins and two tech falls, as well as a five point throw to win the Freesstyle championship in the Schoolboy 190 pound class. Way to go Jacob!!!

Jake has worked extremely hard this season to improve his wrestling and it shows.

? He went undefeated thru the Middle School Season

? Placed 4th at IHSWCA Middle School State

? Placed 2nd at ISWA State (Folkstyle)

? Placed 1st at ISWA  State (Greco & Freestyle)

We are hoping that this will transitions into a good freshman campaign this up and coming  school season.

  7. There is the Mat Tracker app for iPhones but I'm not sure if it works for the iPad.

It works on the ipad. The app is okay but is missing a few important features  blood & injury time, choice of Top, Bt, N or Diff., C-Stalling and C- Warning. You can not enter you lineups ahead of time, so it has some room to improve.

Track Wrestling has a pretty App for ipad/iphone, but you must pay annually to use this, I think is around $50. They will  gather your stats for you.

  8.   To be honest I think that every Coach should be giving that speech to their kids at the being of the season.  Wrestling by definition is an individual sport, but what some people fail to realize is that there is also a team aspect to it. If not then why do we wrestle dual meets and keep score? Why not do nothing but tournaments. I believe some people are getting spring/summer wrestling confused with what High School Wrestling is all about.  Yes it is up to the wrestler to do all the necessary things to become a High School State Champ. It is the coach?s responsibility to try and bring that out in each kid, but remember he has 14 varsity wrestlers and X amount of jv wrestlers that he is try to hone. Not everyone can be a State Champion.  But a good coach knows how to push, pull yell, scream and jockey his athletes around into a State Championship Team. Which I think is great for the sport of wrestling. You will end up having more kids coming out for the sport (which is what we need), more fans coming out to sport their team, and School bragging rights. All because everyone wants to be a part of a Championship Team!  In my Opinion that is what High School Wrestling is all about and what every coach and parent should strive for in their student athlete.  And yes, I stood on top of the podium twice when I was in high school.

  9. As I said, if women's wrestling is a boost in any way to men's wrestling, then great.  There better be either greater numbers of boys joining the sport or there better be more teams being added at the collegiate level for this to make any sense.  Short of that (more collegiate teams springing up or more boys joining the ranks of wrestlers) I believe it will be a waste of time and resources for a women's program to get started.  Sorry, but if I were a decision maker regarding this issue I would give women's/girl's wrestling a big thumbs down as I wouldn't be willing to "give it a try for awhile to see how things work out."  Having a girls program wouldn't take the bullseye off college teams.  More guys wrestling will take the bullseye off wrestling.

I do not recall a college program ever having problems with getting boys to join their ranks. "More guys wrestling will take the bulls eyes off of wrestling." I do not think so!

If fans would start to come out and support their teams like the Iowa and Oklahoma fans, this might change how the college facuity looks at itself. In the end it comes down to finances and then they throw a red ribbon around it and call it Title 9 when they do away with a program.

I get that you are against women wrestling that is fine, but I have two girls that like the sport and want to continue on with it. No different than girls wanting to participate in Judo, Karate, etc? Trust me when I say that Boys High School wrestling is not going anywhere. It is to popular and to many people make a living off the sport (selling Singlets Shoes, Head Gear, etc...)for us to throw it in the trash because of title 9.

  10. My thoughts are the same as most of you guys, I do not think girls should be wrestling boys. I have had this argument with my two daughters numerous times, about the touching and grabbing. Heck my girls do not even like other people touching them,  but in the end I lost the battle and my twins are wrestling.  I won?t lie, it is tough to watch not knowing what is going to happen. Yes, there is always someone in the stands making some type of comment about it. But let us look at all of the facts, there are not enough girls to form a girls division in the state of Indiana the numbers are just not there. So until that happens, the girls will be wrestling the boys and life moves on.  Also remember everyone used to say that girls could not handle playing football because it was so rough. But guess what, there has been some girls doing that also.

  11. I doubt these are the real brackets based on the fact that Pam Noble (The A.D. AT Connersville) clearly stated that this tournament would not be seeded. Also the final roster is not due until Monday Dec. 27th at noon and we did not provide records or any seeding information. I have been involved with this tournament for many years and the draws have never come out until after weigh-ins and many weights have to be redrawn. If these are the draws so be it, I dont really care. Just be cautious because we havent recieved any information on draws or seeds.

    Lance Ellis

I would like to have a copy of these brackets as well. Just so I can compare them when I sit down with the other Coaches the day of the Tournament. The Classic is suppose to be a BLIND DRAW and if they are putting the brackets together without the coaches input then I think there are going to be a lot of upset coaches. >:(
