  2. sorry if i made it sound as if someone got caught.  makes me want to start a thread about the best headlock wrestlers in Indiana. my vote of course would be from the late 80's. MATT MORRIN.... national greco champion for team Indiana back in the day... i was one of his victims.. at the Atlanta open. almost stopped him then at greco state but fell short by a point. LOVE THE HEADLOCK! PERIOD!

  3. I replayed the match a couple times, heres the scoring, Hogendobler takedown, Hogendobler 3 nearfall cradle, Hogendobler 2 nearfall(7-0), Weber reaches back while Chris is on top and gets a headlock 2 reversal 3 nearfall(7-5), 3rd period Chris takes bottom, escape 1, takedown 2, about 40 seconds left 3rd period Chris cradle 3 nearfall (13-5), Weber headlocks reversal (13-7) pin! The only move Weber threw on Hogendobler was headlock while Chris was in dominating position, 3-4 headlock attemps with no results and two with results, he did no other moves, and yes he did not need other moves because he won. My point being the only move Weber threw the whole match was defensive headlock, 4-5 times, once gaining 5 points, Chris should have expected it coming again. And nothing against Weber he is a very good wrestler.

sounds like a great match from reading your post. put  it on youtube so we can all see it. remember when i was a kid (early 70's) coach used to call the headlock a muscle move. by the mid 80's after several of us started going to greco tourney's and throw camps,  it was no longer a muscle move in our coaches eyes. we found out  the how, when, and where to hit it. the score can be 14 - 0 only seconds left and you can still lose! in my eyes... if you respect it, know how to use it, it is one of the best moves it the sport. if you get thrown by a reach back headlock, well you are riding too high and or hanging your head, get an anchor and this will not happen. if you get thrown in a headlock from your feet, your hips were higher than your opponent, you were driving in wrong, and had the wrong tie.

  4. thanks to everyone who supported the Randolph county student athletes. in this matter.  All i ever wanted was for these students to have a shot at what that earned.

i want to admit that Saturday morning while things were unfolding that i was in total disbelief.  my family has been involved in wrestling in the state for many years and i have personally involved in wrestling in this county and state since 1976 in one form or another. . i was never a state champion nor did i even make it the state finals. i am the one who was pleading for everyone to leave. i understand why everyone  stayed did not leave due to the uncertainty of the outcome.  i felt that everything the sport that i have supported and love was being jeopardized. i had contacted news centers while it was all unfolding not thinking that anything could be done. it was my last effort to support the kids. i do not even have a son competing but still it just did not feel right in my heart to just st back and let this all continue. after wrestling started Saturday i felt like i had failed. not only for the kids but also the sport, my county, and state. then this morning i was contacted by Rick Hightower who made the journey to Winchester this morning to cover the situation.  Now the few of us who showed voiced our honest opinions in this situation. Like i said i am very thankful for all the support. I  PERSONALLY HAVE JEOPARDIZED MY JOB OF 20 YEARS TO STAND UP FOR THESE KIDS. I DID NOT GO TO WORK TODAY. I also know if i do lose my job in my heart i have done the right thing. i expect to catch a lot of slack from others in this matter and will man up for what i believe is right. i also know that i will somehow most likely be pursued in one form or another from those who disagreed with contacting the media and i will man up to this also. Just remember one thing. I fought for these kids and did not quit. Why because the sport of wrestling has taught me life lessons. to work hard, have dedication, and to not ever ever give up.

    thanks again,

    Shane T. Jones

  5. root was one heck of a coach

union city has always had decent individuals... as well as the other randolph schools.  imagine them as a county school

i mean the martins from randolph southern, jones family from winchester, i dont really know much about monroe central though...

  6. Adam Chalfant was our schools first state champion,

i am in no way shape or form a basketball fan but my school has went to the 2a boys basketball state finals a couple times in the past few years, and was only a few points from making it a 3rd last season.  Do you think they were ashamed of going to 2a state finals? NO

Our football team made it to the 2a sectional finals for the first time ever, do you think we didn't care because we were only 2a, NO we were extremely proud of the team and our coaching staff for getting things turned around,

Our girls basketball team has won 3 strait sectional titles, looking for a 4th, and is currently ranked number 1 in class 2a, do you think we go around n tell them, oh it's only 2a, or when they are announced as being ranked number 1 in 2a do you think the girls all hang their heads and the crowd laughs, NO. Everyones fired up and applauds.

So you tell me, actually being from a small town and barely having enough kids to be considered 2a, do you think we say oh they don't work hard since we are 2a, or Adam said, I'm better since you guys are class and I'm not.

(Adam did not by the way, he is one of the nicest kids I've ever met)

Point is, class 1a state champions still feel like state champions as much as 5a state champions feel like state champions.

HWT- Chalfant- junior, did not wrestle last season

  10. great post nutsdad

it was a hard fought match by both wrestlers and for anyone to say someone doesn't deserve to be a state champ is just crazy.

Both guys got there by hard work and Phillips won

Hall gave him a great match

MAYBE he should have got the 2,

MAYBE he would have held Cody down for thirty seconds,

and MAYBE he would have won state,

point is Cody won and thats the past, why bag on the kid for winning state?

Good luck to not only Phillips and Hall, but everyone around the state

  11. i am not sure the exact score of the tri winchester match but winchester came out on top

winchester is very young and doesnt appear to be capable of another tec championship

still got my money on union county
