  1. maligned-

i think your ratings speak for themselves:  empiracally and intuitively, they represent the best teams!  here is what's being lost in the debate:

    1.  24 classed teams will compete for a state championship, rather than 8.

    2.  each class will be seeded, ostensibly reserving the top two teams for an exciting finale.  this is a great improvement over the ihsaa format.

    3.  each team will get 3 duals against the best competition indiana has to offer.  many of these duals would otherwise not occur.

if the ratings system is a harbinger of the tournament, i expect the tournament to be a top-notch event.  i fully expect the ihswca to keep the event and have no desire to turn it back to the ihsaa.

    keep up the good work!

  2. I'm having a hard time seeing how a kid from an "Elite" program can get "extra" matches that a good kid from an average program will not get.  It seems to me that this could really make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

On top of all that, what real meaning will a mid-season tournament have?  So you're the best at mid-year; isn't the point to peak at the end at Conseco/Banker's Life?

on the one hand, you are concerned about "the rich getting richer", but in the next sentence, it is a detriment, because a team will peak too early.

Expanding your premise, this new format could help the "average" team.  the "elite teams" are peaking in December in a "meaningless" tournament.  this will allow the "average" team to blossom at "The House".

  3.

Seriously, I have no idea why this has you all torn up, but free king relax!   The Reitz kids have presented themselves very respectfully and have earned their place in Saturdays Semi-State.  What ever happens here is just talk. Means nothing in the grand scheme of life.

I can appreciate you being upset, but honestly it is what it is.  Opinion and ultimately guesses.  If they want to rub it in over picks made during a high school event then so be it.  Let them have their moment in the "limelight" of this message board.  I have been just as bad at times.  It's like a black eye, it heals and you move on.

Relax, enjoy the efforts of the kids and pray for continued success for both sides!  These kids are a great group of representatives!

    Blue Bolt-

I am giving you a "100% No-Spin" rating on your reply!  You are back in the saddle, baby!

The irony is lost on these chaps who don't understand that these barbs are pointed at "the adults", specifically NOT the programs or the kids.

Maybe you can take Wrestleman and me to a match sometime.  I will warn you:  He has seen very few, if any, live matches.  He might get a little overexcited....

No BYOB on this one, i'll bring the ski.

  4. I know there is all fun and games going on here, but as a life long Reitz Wrestler and fan, I have to say I'm disappointed in what I have read here.

I get it, you're having a good year and it's time to strut and rub some salt in the wounds, but in my day that was the unacceptable.   We won because we were supposed to.  No need to say another word.  If we got beat we came back and avenged that the next time.  Our coaches would have killed us if we acted like what I have read.

If you are a part of the Reitz program, I really hope you don't teach the kids that this is ok!  It's an embarrassment to those of us who have supported you for all these years.

If you want people to stop drinking the "Haterade" then stop pouring it.   You make us all look like fools.

I also want you to stop and think about it for a second, how long has it been since we beat Castle in a dual?  Shouldn't we show the respect we would like to have in return?

It's talk like what I see that makes us all look like the fools they claim we are.  If they want to talk, then let them.  Panther Pride knows better!

    Just my 2 cents

    Pantherfan-

In order to post on this thread, you must be willing to take as well as you give it, exchange a couple of barbs and reflect on it all.  in short, you must possess a sense of humor.

Unfortunately, you seem to have none of these qualities.

Why don't you go to a funeral, drop one of these diatribes and thoroughly depress everyone?

  5. MAN!  You guys really let me down.  There were really no fireworks at all in this post.  No rubbing it in.  No provocative claims.  No mention of never actually have seen a live match wrestled.

    Nothing.

Evansville Spectator is the only one showing any signs of life. I guess we can all assume the Castle Sectionalites are sustained by "Haterade"?

    Your Humbler No-Spin Scorer,

Hook and Half ("Hook" to my friends)

  6. Another Castle regional is in record books.  After all of the insults, invectice, ad hominem attacks and anonymous accustions, the dust has finally settled.  The most contentious point seemed to be the number of Castle sectional representatives advancing to semi-state.

Here is how our three primary protagonists fared:

Blue Bolt predicted 26 would advanced-  62% accurate

    Jon H predicted 13 advancers for a 76% rating

Wrestleman came out on top, calling for 16 advancers for a 94% rating

Wrestleman, you are the "No Spin" champ!  Feel free to add "94% accurate" to any future posts.

As it turns out, that Westside Kool-Aid is not an intoxicant.  It seems that it clears ones head and allows him to think objectively.

Blue Bolt, I know personally know Wrestleman and Jon H.  I find them to both to be genial and hospitable kind of guys.  I would be willing to bet that they will share some of that westside Kool Aid with you.  Mix it with Caffeine-Free Ski (caffeine can make you jittery and irratable) and you have a tasty libation!

  7. We need Bill O'Reiky for this with some fair and balanced reporting.  We will put this in the "no spin zone."

Good Call!  Blue Bolt, consider yourself in the "no spin zone."

Geraldo, Miller, Coulter, Blue Bolt....the great ones make it look so easy.

  8. Blue Bolt had made a lot of claims regarding the Castle and Central sectionals, strength of rising programs and the relative weakness of traditional powerhouses.  Let's measure the claims against the outcomes and give him an accuracy rating.

You know, like Rush Limbaugh is 99.4% accurate?

Blue Bolt may earn the mantle of "The Oracle of the South"...  Long live Blue Bolt!

  9. Here is Mater Dei's line-up:

106- Wyatt Seng, wrestled for St. Philip K-8.

113-  Alex Johnson, wrestled for Westside Catholic K-8.

120- Sam Goebel, wrestled for St. Philip K-8.

126- Josh Pierre, wrestled for Weside Catholic K-8.

132-  Branson Schroeder, wrestled for Resurrection K-8.

138-  Jake Lannert, wrestled for St. Joe K-8.

145-  Alex Bassemier, wrestled for St. Philip K-8.

152-  Logan Folz, wrestled for St. Philip K-8.

160-  Mahlon Parkinson, wrestled for St. Philip K-8.

170 - Alex Schneider, wrestled for St. Joe K-8.

182-  Dalton Brandenstein, wrestled for Resurrection K-8.

195-  Dane Maurer, wrestled for St. Joe K-8.

220-  Evan Collins,  wrestled for Holy Redeemer and St. Joe K-8

275-  Nathan Wright, wrestled for St. Joe K-8

All of the varsity members wrestled for the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats.  If you keep your old ISWA books, look up these names and you will find them listed multiple times.  St. James, Holy Redeemer, Corpus Christi and St. Wendel also feed into Mater Dei and regularly contribute to the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams.

This year's edition is a typical Mater Dei team:  The average member has ten+ years of wrestling experience, wrestled for a top-notch middle school program and grew up in an incredibly tough and competitive grade school league.  Additionally, this team is followed and zealously supported by a very large, loyal and dedicated fan base.

  10. What if Tsirtsis had been born 40 years earlier, weighed 100 pounds more and Hulk Hogan were an ametuer wrestler living in Indiana?  Who wins it?

The calculus also works if Hulk were 100 pounds lighter and born 40 years later.

    Discuss.

  11. Right now, at an undisclosed location on Evansville's westside, Jon H is in his secret lair.  The Cray super-computer is humming, the black witch's kettle is boiling.  A soothsayer is channeling Jimmy the Greek.

28 empty Ski cans litter the floor.  You see, my friends, to work 72 hours without sleep requires a lot of caffeine.

Patiently, the wrestling world awaits his match-ups and ultimate prediction....

  12. Mater Dei is hosting its second annual Super Duals on January 7.

    We need one more referee.

This is an opportunity to referee elite middle school wrestling.  Competing will be Mater Dei, Frances Howell (2011 Missouri State Middle School Champions), Granite City (3rd Place, 2011 Illinois State Championships), Union County (2011 Kentucky State Champs) and St. Xavier, Louisville.

Please email me if you are interested.

  13. Mater Dei will be hosting this event on January 7, 2012.

Last year, the Kentucky and Missouri team state champions competed.  Each team will get four duals and an bonus round.  Junior Varsity wrestlers got 4-6 matches at last year's event.

Expect very strong competition.  We would prefer to have a team from Central or Northern Indiana compete.

If interested, contact me at jsjohnson@ccol.net.

    Thanks,

    John Johnson
