  1. Howe hasn't wrestled anyone like this in college?  I agree.  Howe as a wrestler is way above college level wrestling.  Howe cut his teeth this summer at the international level and showed he is competitive with the best wrestlers in the world, regardless of age.  Burroughs is the one that has to prove something by moving up a weight and competing with a wrestler of Howe's caliber.  Also Burroughs has to show he is over the injury.  I agree this is the most anticipated matchup this year in college and I think Howe will not be challenged.

  2. I don't follow college a whole lot but I saw where Nickerson got hurt.  Does this injury eliminate Nickerson from title contention?  Is there anyone else that can compete with Angel or is he now the clear cut favorite if Nickerson can not come back healthy

  3. I noticed on themat that lots of people refer to Howe as being boring to watch.  The announcers even mentioned him being limited on offense.  Is that how people really think of him or is it just a byproduct of wrestling Moriningstar?

Also, what kind of Olympic potential does Howe have?  Is London a possibility?

  4. Did the 189 matches actually get wrestled out of order?  It was announced that the 189's would be wrestling next (out of order) but then I thought they stuck to the correct order anyway.

The semi-finals definitely should be run on four mats.  The one change I would make for next year is make the semi-finals a next-available-mat format.  With just two matches per weight class the heavier weights can get out their pretty quick if there are a lot of pins and the 45 minute issue could come into play.  Also, it was tough to keep up when each mat skipped a weight.  However, keep the first and second round as it is with the match order predetermined.

Wrestlebacks could be wrestled in the same amount of time that this semi-state took if you go back to only three advancing from regional and only wrestleback from the ticket round on.

  5. The one change I would like to see is wrestlebacks at semi-state from quarterfinals on.  I think the greatest flaw in the system has always been state-placers getting knocked out in the semi-state ticket round (Jankowski etc...).  I feel adding the 4th place regional qualifier adds very little to the sport.  It just makes semi-state longer.  Adding the 4th place regional qualifer makes semi-state longer by the length of one dual meet.  Adding wrestlebacks from the quarterfinals on would add the length of half a dual meet to the day.

So my system would only advance three from regional and have semi-state wrestlebacks from the quarters on.

I love wcs145's system 2.  The one add on I would make is have full wrestlebacks to 3rd for all 32 wrestlers.  This would make state a full two day event but how great would that be?
