Jeffersonville gets 10 on to semi-state. 6 champions, 1 runner-up, 1 - 3rd, 2 - 4th.
-
Jeff did not dominate?????? 10 in the finals (only 8 seeded to be), 8 champs out of 14 classes, 6 majors and a pin in finals matches. 13 on to regionals. Winning overall by 75 points. I guess I don't know what dominating is.

What was the score of the Bevans - Farrell match?
-
Hiestand did not wrestle Weekley. Weekley wrestled 140 during the dual with Yorktown. Weekley beat Van Horn and lost to the Holt Michigan kid.
-
Martin and Weekley are on the same side of the bracket. They will meet in the semi finals.
-
What was the Nut vs. Vibbert score?
-
Shepherd 103 beat Pike 4-1 at Jasper on 12/12
I would keep an eye on Weekley of Jeffersonville back in the ranklings at 135. He lost 5-3 in overtime to Barlow of Bloominton South and Weinzapfel of Mater Dei 9-7. He will be in action against Barlow and Martin (he beat earlier) this week-end at the Jeff Classic.
I'd also keep an eye on Miller of Jeffersonville. He is 15-0 on the year and looking very strong.
-
Not sure of the final score between Luke Welch and Jacob Boomsma, but it was pretty much back and forth the whole match, with both getting a couple of near falls. In the end Boomsma had a small lead and Welch put him on his back to go ahead for the win.
In the match between Welch and Smith of Jeffersonville, Welch was ahead in the 3rd period, 1-0, and Smith got a last second take down for the win.
I was very impressed with him.

What was the final score of the Schoettle vs. VanHook match?

The Jeff Classic is steadily growing into a very competitive tournament. Here are a few interesting statistics from this years entries.
7 state qualifiers/placers
40 semi-state qualifiers
1 ISWA Triple Crown Champ
17 ranked wrestlers
3 top 20 ranked teams
This should make for some very good wrestling, and I believe a tournament that should get more respect than it normally does.

#15 Shepherd of Jeffersonville beat #12 Pike of Bloomington South 4-1 at the Jasper 5-way at 103.
-
Jeff competed well today. Lost a few matches we could have one and lost some close matches against great competition. Weekley wrestled well against great competition (took Barlow into overtime and a close match with Weinzapfel). Browner looked impressive all day at 171 (15-0 on season), Miller looked good at 119 (15-0 on season), and Shepherd was tough at 103 (14-1 on season).
Individual records on the day:
103 Shepherd 5-0 weight class champion beat #12 ranked Pike Bloomington South 4-1
112 Smith 4-1
119 Miller 5-0 weight class champion
125 Castro 1-4
130 Simpson 3-2
135 Weekley 3-2
140 Harbin 1-4
145 Dryden 1-4
152 Tatgenhorst 2-3
160 Marlin 1-4
171 Browner 5-0 weight class champion
189 Bowen 0-5
215 Pratt 1-3
Curtley 1-0
285 Curtley 2-1
Gibson 0-2

I believe it all depends upon the situation as to what is more impressive. A superior wrestler cutting an inferior opponent and running up the score is not necessarily that impressive. Likewise, a superior wrestler pinning a much inferior opponent is also not that impressive. But say in the state finals, someone like Andrew Howe, teching everyone, is exceptionally impressive, and I believe more so than pinning the same opponents. It simply shows technical superiority. This is not to say pinning those opponents would not be impressive, but scoring at will is a step above.
From a team stand point, you always want the 6, but tech falls tend to impress me more, though as a coach I would gladly take either one.
Not trying to argue, just an opinion

Renaldo Weekley, a junior from Jeffersonville at 135. He is 9-1 on the season. He beat Tim Martin from New Albany at HHC Duals this past weekend. Was a semistate qualifier last year. A very solid wrestler. His only loss was a Capital City Classic (can't remember who), but he was winning by 4 and got caught in a throw and lost by 1, so ended up finishing 3rd.
-
Jeffersonville is 7-0. I believe the other team is Greencastle.

New Albany over Madison (not sure of score)
-
Jeff should be the team to beat. Floyd is always competitive. Jennings Co. has enough talent to surprise anyone that overlooks them, and Columbus East will be competitive as well. It will all come down to who can be hitting on all cylinders early in the season.
My picks are:
1 - Jeff
2 - Jennings
3 - Floyd
4 - Columbus
Any of the top 4 should be very competitive. We will see on Friday and Saturday. Good luck to all.

Sorry. Hard to read some of the hand writing.

Whats Bloomington S. line-up looking like? I think they had a pretty young squad last year and were solid. They should be pretty tough this year.
-
What happened to Appell? He was a pretty solid 103 last year, semi-state qualifier.
-
Browner will be at 171. Bowen will be at 189 for Jeff. He may surprise some.
-
Not sure what every other teams line-up looks like yet. But Jeff's line-up should look something like this.
103 - Shepherd - So. SS qualifier
112 - Smith - Sr. SS qualifier
119 - Miller - Sr. SS qualifier
125 - Vasquez ? - So
130 - Weekly - Jr - SS qualifier
135 - Dryden or Simpson - both Sr.
140 - Harbin ? Jr.
145 - Hendricks ? - Sr. SS qualifier
152 - Tatgenhorst - Jr.
160 - O'Brien or Dodge - both Sr.
171 - Browner - Sr. - SS qualifier
189 - Bowen - Jr.
215 - Pratt - Jr.
HWT - not sure yet but there are several. Will see who rises to the top in the next couple of weeks.
Maybe others can post estimated line-ups.
The duals should be very competitive. I believe Jeff, Floyd, Jennings, and Columbus should all have very solid line-ups.
