  2. At least we know he can eat a few punches and not completely be lost in the cage.  He does need to find a way to stop some basic punches with something other than his face if he want to keep moving up to better competition.  The MMA game is still new to him so hopefully he will continue to work and adapt if he want to keep with it.

I guess with a chin like that, we shouldn't expect anything less.

  3.

I agree, I hate seeing the losers wrestle!  I want a super sectional of 32 teams, with on the champ surviving.  Then the champ advances to state with only 8 qualifiers for state.

Y2, is someone using your screen name?  This doesn't sound like the guy that is in it for the kids or the sport.  I HATE SEEING LOSERS WRESTLE???? I can't believe that you would write something like that.  The beautiful thing about wrestling is that hard work, determination and having the mental toughness to get back up and fight harder next time ALWAYS levels out the playing field.  Let em wrestle!!! Combine the sectionals!! Wrestle till midnight!!  They should have FULL wrestle backs at semi state...I'll stay at the colleseum all night long if my kid has a shot.  Why do you think they have the wrestle back format for NCAA set up the way it is? SO THOSE LOSERS CAN WRESTLE.  I'm sure that you are one of the guys that go have a bite to eat and a cold beverage during consolations.  That's where some hard fought ALL AMERICANS are made.  Same goes for our high school wrestlers.  And, if you say the quality of wrestling at some of the regionals is WATERED DOWN, I'll lose it!  Get these kids some mat time, get these kids opportunities.  No matter what the level.

  4. Aw yeah, Rob Millers headlock CANNOT be disputed.  Chris Snyder from Mishawaka had a pretty dangerous headlock though.  And when you talk about cradles, didn't John Lile-Decatur Central have a nasty cradle?  I remember Chris Lytle and Josh Dant had some legs that were hard to defend too.  Cameron Smith could lateral drop anyone from anywhere if he felt like it...seen him do it from his butt before.

  5. Its ridiculous, this is watering down semi-state and what it means to be a semi-state qualifier.  Some kids work their butts off to be just a semi-state qualifier, now we are adding 56 more and it will mean less to be a semi-state qualifier.

    :)

This doesn't sound like you are JUST trying to get some arguments started, you sound VERY opinionated about going back to the 12 man bracket at semi state.  Ridiculous?  No.  There may be SOME arguements against the new format, but it's not RIDICULOUS by any means.  More wrestlers get another week of competition, bigger gates at SemiState...it's far from ridiculous.  I'm not just saying this because our only qualifiers were 4th place finishers at regionals, but it makes sense to me.  And, I guarentee that there is AT LEAST one 4th place finisher at regionals that moves on to state.  Wanna wager against it?

  6. In just looking at Duos, I think Will Hill and Vernon Cannon stand out to me.  Both graduated the same year and finished 1st and 2nd respectively at state their senior years.  But what I think makes them a great Duo for this discussion is that their team wasnt that strong.  It was basically a 1-2 punch of Hill and Cannon.

Dont get me wrong all the above mentioned "duos", "trios", or teams are all deserving.

Will Hill had a huge fan base from EMD especially after beating James Brimm of Evansville Central in (I believe) 95 state championship semifinals. I ended up meeting his cousin who went to USI a year later pretty cool dude.

It's always nice to have EMD on your side

Both Will and Vernon were both class acts.  I happen to be sitting near the EMD section of Market Square Arena that year and just about needed ear plugs when they went nuts over Will beating Brimm.

  7. I second the Terence Randolph from BD.  He would have hurt ol' Cameron.  I know both of them, grew up wrestling with them.   Cameron was great, but ol' knuckle head Terence was a beast.  Nod goes to Randolph.

Ditto, but I want it to go on record that I am excluded from the knucklehead comment...Terence beat on me everyday my senior year in high school.

  8. If you are including Hanover Central, Hobart and Merriville in the Region, it would only be fair to allow teams like Avon and Carmel to be thrown in the mix. I would even go as far as to say that Fishers, Mount Vernon and maybe Pendleton would be included.  Merriville and Hanover are just as far from the Region as Fishers, Fortville and Pendleton are from Indy. Good topic though, especially this year.

  10. What a great poll!!!!  I need more stats though. What's the skinny on individual SQs and placewinners at LN?  I'm sure they are impressive too.  They were my first pick when I saw the topic.  I'm votin for LN.  Bellmonts numbers are also WAY up there. I wouldn't think the other teams on the list would be able to come close to those two but I'd like to see em.

  11. Ben Davis

  12. I was shocked that there were not many posts by other Indianapolis area high schools. So I wanted to put another out there. Here is the all-time best at Warren Central High School.

    103 - John Lloyd ( State Champ)

    112 -  Scott Ellis (State Champ @105, 3rd@105)

Some spots had to modified, but the wrestler that I had picked wrestled at that weight at one point in their career.

    Coach Clev

?No more points unless their yours" - Schro Dog

Ahh, but can you claim Eddie Baxter?  NIce little controversy there.  He finished up at BD.

And, was Satterfiled at 119 the same Satterfield that played QB at Warren?

  13. I only had 11 show up to our first middle school practice but they are up to 19 now.  A little low for us, we are usually up around 25 or so.  I had 68 K - 5 at our school corporation camp for a week and 15 or so are still wrestling with our County club which is up to 72 kids.  I think that for the most part interest in the sport is growing in the area up here, we gotta just keep doin what we do and hopefully produce some quality wrestling up here in the Miami, Wabash, Grant county area.  There are some good coaches around here doing some good things and some kids that seem to be buying into it.

  14. i would have liked to see the freshman williams from wabash at 125 that went 5 and 0 go up against lovejoy or fiechter

He took 6th at the Marion invitational. Not sure who he wrestled, but the Marion kid is a solid senior, amd OH kid is a solid freshman.

1st/2nd: Chris Herring (Marion) Dec. Bo Ketring (Oak Hill) 6-2

3rd/4th: Justin Louck (Southwood) MDec. Dylan Hettinghouse (Tipton) 11-0

5th/6th: John Horner (Eastern) DFLT Trevor Williams (Wabash)

7th/8th: Casey Cyr (Western) won by Forfeit (Eastbrook)

    Mockdad:  thanks

And Trever Williams lost to Herring in an Ultimate Tiebreaker, he was hurt during the match and defaulted the rest of his matches that day.

  15. Anybody else think it was interesting how the pools were divided up?

I just felt like Bishop Luers having a full lineup and not even getting to wrestle

for a placement was kind of a raw deal. Besides Fairfield it sure looked like all the

best teams were in one pool. If they wanted to stack the best teams together in one

pool that would be fine but we shouldn't  wrestle a placement match for 3rd and 4th

    and recieve 5 forfiets.

The pools will be different next year but some things will stay the same.  I believe S Wells and Heritage requested to be in the same pool because of Conference matchups.  Same thing goes for Wabash and North Miami, we don't see each other before conference so they will remain in our pool.  Fairfield and Northridge see each other earlier in the year and prefer to stay in opposite pools.  Same thing goes for Wabash and Tipp Valley.  I apologize if I offended anyone with the match ups, I would be happy to listen to any suggestions.  I promise they will be different next year.  I think the best team won the tournament and there were some good individual mathcups all day long in both pools.  Isn't that what counts?
