  1. Coaches I beg you go home and teach these kids that act like wild untamed morons after they win to have some class.  I understand clapping and even pointing to your fans it is an emotional time, but some of it is taunting.  I will give an example from years ago so I don't single anyone out.  A few years ago a senior who was an animal, beat a very young but also very good freshman(by a small margin) in the finals.  Instead of just walking to the line fist pumping or clapping for his accomplishment, he decided he needed to go to the center of the mat and break dance.  Now I was there and I can tell you not only did he take away from his victory by looking like a fool but it also cause people, myself included to regret chairing for such a person.  So coaches and parents just please work with your young men on being adults they are almost there, you know!

Reece didn't break dance when he beat Howe, he did a flip.  You get to do whatever you want when you're a champion. Especially a young champion. Get over it.

  2. it happens i know Griffith won it one year when they had all their studs. fact being it should be determined by a team competition not how 3-8 kids do in an individual tourney.

Mater Dei won the coaches and team trophy that year (2003). They had 4 champs to griffith's 3. MD had 7 in the top 3 that yr and is the best IN HS team I have ever seen. The 2 that lost in the semis that year lost to angel and tsirtsis (macke and weinzy). That was also the only time in t-shirts HS career that an Indiana kid had him in even relative danger. Ahh, memories...

To better your argument though, both years LN won, they didn't win the coaches' trophy. The year they DID win the coaches' trophy (1999) they didn't even qualify for the state tourney.

  3. In related matters here is a list of past Cadet and Junior Division National Champs and then All-Americans via iswa website.

    http://www.iswa.com/allamer.html

That site is missing a cadet champ at 215  F/S from 1999.  I can't remember the guy's name to save my life.  It's Mike something or other from Carmel.  He teched or pinned everyone he wrestled that year.  Killer fball player too.  Was plagued w/ injuries his jr and sr year though.

  4. The College Signings article said that Miracle was going to Blair Academy. I always thought Blair Academy was a private high school. Am I way off there?

It's a prep school.  JT Young went there for a year after he graduated from BHSS.

  5. Agreed. This is one of the finest jobs he and his staff have done, which is saying something.

That said, no one was going to beat Mishawaka this year. IMO, one of the best teams (in the truest sense of the word) ever from Indiana.

    1. 2003 EMD

    2. 2004 LN

    3. 1999 EMD

    4. 2009 Mishawaka

  6. i think that it should be a rule to shake each others coaches hand and if you dont its a point taken away from your team

good sportsmanship is a great thing to teach high school kids now a days

How is shaking someone's hand good sportsmanship?  Who gives a damn.

  7. Vlahos was kicked out of Fargo last year for doing this exact same move.  Fleeger taught it to him if that tells you anything.  It's used to intentionally hurt your opponent so he goes over.

  8. I had to make one change from my original list.  I made a mistake and accidentally had Tsirtsis at 140, thinking he was there in 2003.  He was not, so I had to bump him to 145, drop Weinzapfel (a tragic drop...he's the only one to give Tsirtsis a match; 2-time champ, 2-time runner-up).  Inserted J.T. Young in a very difficult to pick 140 spot.

About Quiroga...I limited my choices to state champions from the years they won state only.  In other words, I only considered Quiroga from 2008 at 119; and I don't think he was as strong that year as Eppert was in 2009.  If he had won state last year, I would have put him at 125, moved Reece up to 130, and dropped Hernandez.  It's crazy not to have a Fargo National Champion on a team of the decade; but following the rules I gave myself, this is what I came up with.

Also, putting Jason Tsirtsis from 2009 at 125, bumping Reece to 130, and dropping Hernandez' junior year is very much an option.  It's tough though.  Hernandez was a Fargo Junior runner-up.

    Cashe beat Eppert last year.

  9. I was there Ln just isn't the same team they used to be, but carmel didn't look outstanding to me either. dont get me wrong they were good but some weights are very weak for carmel but they also have some studs

I can only think of one team that used to be what LN "used to be" and that is the '03 MD team (probably the best team I've ever seen in Indiana).  I think the coaches at LN are doing a damned good job.  LN had never had a junior freestyle champ before they got there.

  10. 1998-99 seems like it has been about ten years. But, is that when Penn  raised PHM wrestlers and Mishawaka had Mishawaka raise wrestlers. Not tiring to start it up either. But, in the last 4 years maybe a little longer. There has been talk of good Penn Wrestlers transfering to Mishawaka. There has been talk that a few go to PHM schools from k-8th. Then go to  Mishawaka in there 9th grade so ISHAA can not do anything.  Both High Schools are in the same town. Is the Rivalry always been like it has in the last few years or is it only because of the Penn Wrestlers that  transferred  in the last few years. Now, this year I have seen on the board that Ryan Stahl that was 2nd in State to a Mishawaka Wrestler that took first. Had been told that the Mishawaka wrestler started at Penn  or it was PHM schools. Ryan  Stahl went to Elkhart Memorial and now is doing his senior year at Mishawaka.  So, will there be a another Mishawaka Rivalry starting with Elkhart. Maybe that is another subject.  I do not understand with the ISHAA Rules on how Stahl can be Varsity team captain at Elkhart and be able to be Varsity his Senior year at Mishawaka. I can not assume that he would not be 1 st what ever weight he goes.  Is this what happens when wrestler go to other open rooms. I only read wrestlers going to Mishawaka is it because it is a RTC open room. Maybe that is another subject too. These schools are all in a 20 mile radius

What exactly would you say it IS that you're trying to do then?

  11. I wish you the best with your cause.  As you said, 26.2 is no joke!

A little off topic...I hope you don't mind.  I always enjoyed watching you and your unorthodox style in high school.  I've just always had one question about your finals match.  I'm asking this with all sincerity as a casual observer and fan of the sport: what was your and the BG staff's thought process with choosing top when you had the choice?  As amazing as you were on top, I still thought it was a big risk that could go either way.  I know it's a long time ago, and if you don't feel compelled to give any insight, no problem...you don't know me from Adam.  Any thoughts?

He won his semifinal match by turning maldonado.  Not really that hard to figure out.  And Blake was very good at riding people out also.

  12. LhH. do you know of any  of any top wrestlers coming to C.P. legally , I know that there were rumors of Brookes going there and living with Roach , but that would have put C.P. in a questionable situaution with the IHSAA ?

Jason Tsirtsis came to CP legally.
