  1. Yeah, again, we're splitting hairs trying to separate them.  If you want to compare victory margins, then we have to bring in other results too: EMD 47, Memorial 9; Reitz 34, Memorial 24.  These matches happened just before Christmas--well after football.   If we're going simply on wins and losses, then they're all three at 1-1 amongst each other and the only option is to look at strength of victories outside of the duals amongst themselves.   Again, there's no way to say EMD is better than Reitz because we know what happened in the dual.  But there's also no way to say Reitz is better than Castle...and no way to say Castle is better than EMD.  So we go with the data we have available until the top team proves themselves in the tournament.  Catfish: I explained a couple more things in a p.m.  Thanks for your thoughtful posts.

Castle broke the tie.  Third ranked team comes out of the pack.  Castle improved again this year and seperated themselves from the  other two.  Coach Harmon and some of the lesser known wrestlers deserve a lot of credit for their improvement.  Castle does not have great numbers in their program compared to Reitz and MD, but he gets the most out of the one's he has.

  2. Jon H,

Did you miss the SIAC meet.  The Evansville sectional is better, but you give no credit to Castle or their sectional.  You are picking with your heart and not your wrestling eyes.  Castle had 6 champions at SIAC.  You have Welch, Welch, Weikel, Rosebrock, Daughtery, and Daughtery all losing matches they won against their opponents.  You may get some of them, but you have your Reitz/West Side glasses on making that many upset picks.  20 0f 28 in the top 2.  Good thing the Castle sectional had a 3 #2 in state wrestlers and a #3.  Not to mention Rosebrock and Froelich top 8.  At least you gave Chad Welch a chance.

  3. Slickrods,

If this bothers you, do not go to the Evansville Sectional this week.  There will be a wrestler that has a pattern of doing this.  They may have asthma?  They may get hurt alot?  They may just get tired?  Since there will be a lot of wrestlers there and teams, I am not naming the team or wrestler.  Just go to another sectional if it bothers you, because they always stop the match and let the wrestler that is at a disadvantage catch his breath.  Aggravates everyone that understands the ethics of hard work.

  4. My totally incorrect picks are as follows: Reitz with 4 firsts, 4 seconds, 3 thirds, 2 fourths.; Castle with 6 firsts, 2 seconds, 1 third, and 1 fourth.; MD with 2 firsts, 5 seconds, 5 thirds, and 2 fourths.  I don't know how the points are scored for the team portion, but I believe Reitz will win with the most placers.  Feel free to contradict me.  Champs

  6. Could someone explain how this tournament is seeded?  Looks like the top 4 are seeded in order and then it is a blind draw?  There are forfeits that go to the 2 seed and the 1 seed has to wrestle.  I have always wondered how the seeding work at tourney's.

  7. Castle 29-26

Castle is dealing with some injuries and did not wrestle Welch (ranked 2nd state) 152, Daughtery (ranked 16th state) 215, and Daughtery (ranked 6th state) 285.

I am glad you get the point I was trying to make.  Just for fun this is the way the Mooresville tourney matches went down.  With likely pins over freshman for Castle at 103 and 135 you can see where Yorktown would probably have won a close one.  As you can see, they match up better with Yorktown than they did with Mish (obvious), PM, and MD.

  10. Not necessarily. I am still a firm believer that the Evansville Trio could be competitive with 2, 3, and 4.

I realize that Perry and Yorktown have both beaten Castle, but I think it is simply a question of matchups.

Any of those teams could split 7-7.

Yorktown did not beat Castle in a dual meet.  Going on memory, Castle and Yorktown split 5-5 in head to head matchups at a 16 team tourney.  Castle would have been favored or finished higher in two of the other four matches.  I believe Yorktown would have won a 7-7 match with a few more bonus points.  It is tough to use tourney result the same as a dual.  Teams with 2-3 holes have a tough time keeping up in wrestlebacks.  Castle lost the SIAC tourney last year to MD and a week later were able to win the dual meet by a pretty big margin.
