  1. We are excited to announce our winter satellites sessions for 2010-2011.

We will hold workout sessions at Zionsville HS on Thursday evenings in the high school's wrestling room.  Starting November 4th sessions will be 6:00-7:30 for all middle school and under wrestlers.  There will be a workout on October 28th from 5:00-6:30 for all wrestlers.

We will also start sessions at Ben Davis HS on Tuesdays starting November 2nd.  Workouts will be from 6:00-7:30.

Reminder that all wrestlers that attend must have a current USA wrestling card.  Dues for the satellite sessions are $50 per month.  All full time members at CIA's main site can attend the satellite sessions free of charge.

We think this is a great opportunity for Indy wrestlers to get more mat time with some of the best kids in the city.

Contact us if you have any questions.

  3. We had a great time with Andrew Howe in the room this weekend.  There was a great room a partners and technique was top notch.

Also thanks to our career pathologist, Coach Truitt.  Coach gave us some great insight on picking colleges and what some of the requirements to get into schools could be.  He's a great resource for the kids that train with us.

  4. Seriously?  That's what I get?

I will again reiterate...I am a Michigan football fan first and a Big 10 fan second.  I can't hate on any Big 10 team during bowl season (now the Irish is a totally different story).  I don't even watch the Michigan/ohio state game because of Tulsa Kickoff.  After I moved to Indy and got a little closer to Columbus, I have found out that there's not much difference between the yuckeye fans as the irish fans.

Michigan Football 2011 BCS Champions, 2012 NCAA probation.  That's my prediction.

    Rich Rod for President!

  5. We're pretty excited about having NCAA Champion and Indiana's own Andrew Howe come spend a day with us on August 21st.  Parents also make sure you can make it to our meeting on August 22.  We will be talking about college choices and college wrestling.  Coach Truitt will share his insight on how to build a college resume and what schools look for in a potential student.

Here's a copy of our Fall Newsletter:

    Sessions:

We will finish our leg riding offense and start our leg riding defense this month.  Starting in September, we will begin to build a conditioning base to prepare for the upcoming season.

    Spring/Summer:

2010 was a great spring and summer for the guys who supplement their training with us.  Cody Phillips is currently ranked #1 in the nation by Intermat.  Mitch Sliga is the only cadet in the nation who won national triple crown.  Mitch is the first wrestler in Indiana?s history to win national triple crown at the cadet age level.  Neil Molloy also won a USA Folkstyle National Title.  Great job guys.

    Schedule Change:

Please check the schedule.  The orange group?s workouts on Mondays will move to 6:45-8:15 starting August 23rd.

    Howe Camp:

We?re excited to have NCAA Champion and Indiana Native, Andrew Howe, coming to run our next camp on August 21st.  This camp is only available to CIA members, so please let Coach P know if you?re going to attend.  We will limit the numbers.

    College Talk:

Coach Truitt and Coach P will have a meeting for all members on August 22nd at 6:30.  Coach Truitt is a professor at the IU School of Medicine and has a great knowledge base of what colleges look for when selecting students for enrollment.  Coach P will talk about what colleges look for when selecting college athletes and what level of college wrestling might be right for you.

    Gear:

We have some gear leftover from our last order.  We have hoodies, sweat pants, t-shirts and hats.  See Coach P if you?d like to get any of these.

  7. There was a lot of discussion about the process of the selection of our duals' teams and everyone agreed that there isn't a prefect way to select the teams.  There is unlimited scenarios that we can make up where something isn't 'fair'.  Is a chance that a triple crown winner gets beat in a wrestle-off 2 out of 3?  Yes that is a chance, but I'm not sure statistically how often that will/could happen.  What about the year Andrew Howe, Cooper Samuels, Kyle Ulrey showed up at Junior State in the same weight.  Should only one of them be allowed on our duals team?  What about Tsirtsis and Wright?  They finished 1st and 3rd in the country, but because they were the same weight we could only take one on our duals teams? That was the case those years.  I think the scenario of outstanding individuals in the same weight will happen more than a triple crown winner losing a wrestle off 2 of 3.

I think in 2007 that IN had more Cadet/Junior National All-Americans than they've ever had in one year.  We have had one dual team make the championship pool of national duals (schoolboy, cadet, or junior) since 2006 and it was Greco Roman Cadet Nationals and they got 8th...or last in the championship pool.  We thought something needed to change.

The discussion I brought up at a board meeting was similar to what Joe just said.  Does Indiana want to use the fairest way to make a team, or use a way to make the most competitive team.

The fairest way to make the team would be to have ISWA State determine the team.  Once a kid weighed in for state, he couldn't change to make the duals team.  Imagine if high schools had to pick their lineup that way..  There's not an high school coach around that would say to a kid, "you lost your wrestle off at 119, so can't wrestle varsity even though you might be able to beat the 112 or 125."

If we wanted to make the most competitive team then I think we should form a comittee to pick a team.  That's how the teams that have the most success do it.  I know that for schoolboy duals that Minnesota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin hand pick their own team.  I asked the MN coach at Flonationals about their duals selection and he said that they didn't want their kids getting down to weight that early before the duals tourney.  (I also understand that there are a lot of other factors besides dual selection that makes PA, MN, an OK better duals teams than ours.)

We think the IWSA tried to  come up with a way that is somewhere in the middle.  The ISWA State tourney gives you the ultimate leg up to make the duals team (he must be beat 2 out of 3 to lose his spot) and camp gives IN a chance to move guys around to give us an opportunity to compete with the best.

  8. Darren sent me a text yesterday saying that Ludwig's leg broke when he took him down.  He sent a picture.  I'll need some help to post it...and permission from Darren.

  9. It's great for the kids when Alex can get in the NWI room.

The last two weeks I got to watch Sessa up north and Eppert in Indy put together plans for kids in the state tourney that were absolutely perfect.  Both those guys are great at what they do.

Hawkins and I have the job of being best looking coaches and everyone knows I'm better looking than Coach Hawk.

  10. Great job this past weekend to all the wrestlers who supplemented their training with CIA and CIA NWI.  Your hard work really showed.  After the weekend was over, the numbers are impressive:

    41 State Qualifiers

    26 medalists

    1-8th place

    2-7th placeyou

    3-6th place

    4-5th place

    6-3rd place

    4 runner ups

    6 IHSAA State Champions.

Our 2010 sessions begin March 1st.  Please contact us if you'd like to workout with us this summer.  The Indy sessions are almost full, so please do not wait to reserve your spot.

  11. We had a pretty good seat for the Bradbury/Birge match.  That was the best ticket round match I can think of.  Birge was returning state champ.  Bradbury lost to Ramos in the Regional and drew into Birge...Logansport champ.  I believe the final was 16-15 with Bradbury giving up escape/takedown with :15 left and then scoring reversal in the last 5 seconds.

  12. We've decided to make this weekend's camp Saturday only.  Sessions are 12-2, 3-5, and 5:30-7:00.  Fee is $50

We're close to being full, so please contact us if you'd like to attend.  We've got a great crew lined up to spend a day in the room.

  14. January Workouts:

We will combine the blue and white groups in January.  Members will have the option of working out on Sun/Mon/Wed from 6:45-8:15.  Each member will have the option of once, twice or three times a week.  Dues for once a week will be $50 and dues for twice a week will be their normal monthly dues.  If a member decides to train three times a week they will add $15 for the month.  See Coach P if you have any questions.

    Camp:

Alex Tsirtsis will be in town for a camp on January 9th and 10th.  We have had Alex down in the past for some camps and he does an amazing job.  Alex won 4 IHSAA State titles in Indiana before moving on to University of Iowa where he was an NCAA All American.  Let Coach P know if you can make this camp as it is sure to be a good one.

    High School Sessions:

Our high school sessions start in March and we will start to get the list of members set soon.  Every year our high school groups have been full.  Last year there were 4 IHSAA State Champions that supplemented their training with us (and 3 more in the CIA NWI room!).  If you are a current member in 8th grade, you have first pick of a spot in these sessions.  Workouts will be Sun/Mon, with heavier guys from 5:00-6:30 and lighter guys from 6:45-8:15.  Each member in our high school group is asked to sign a 5-month agreement (March-July).  See Coach P if you?d like to secure your spot.

    High School Season:

We think it is very important for the wrestlers to be around great wrestling matches.  Ask one of our coaches if you?d like to know where your guy could see some exciting high school wrestling.  Those are the matches we?re training for in the future.
