  1. I would also like to point out to you that Mater Dei and Perry Meridian also beat many of those same schools by the same scores so whats your point?  You don't want to kick a team when its down yet that is exactly what you do.  The thing is many thought this field was a three horse race and the other schools involved came in and wrestled very well to make team state very interesting this year.  Also it has been proven that even if Roach wrestled at 145 or 152 they still would have lost to a very good MD team so once again my point of this thread was to get us to look at the rules of a dual meet trny vs the individual trny which seems to be lost on some people based on an interview Coach Vlink gave right after the MD match.

    Be careful...

  2. Does it really bother you that much that NC gets on the mat that much?  Does it bother you to see a kid develop himself not only as a wrestler, but in confidence and character?  The only way to get better is to put in the time.  How dare Peck put those kids on the mat and not produce.  Spare me, RG ur such a jackwagon.  I dont know who you are or your credentials (maybe you can enlighten me, since I dont know) but you're obviously past high school yet youre worried about who has more wins than who and how many state titles.  You dwell on such topics as "inflated" records because a kid won 200 matches but zero titles.  Way to go, way to post on a message board and degrade some one for their passion, compassion and everything they have done for the sport.  Youre probably saying, "I didnt think..."  Thats just it, you dont think!  Youre a jerk and you constantly put your foot in your mouth and your head up your @_ _!  I dont post a whole lot on here but you struck a cord with this one.  Not every one likes Peck, thats fine, but why dont you practice some of the things your parents, teachers and coaches taught you.  Respect, Tact, Humility.

I don't think the commentary was directed at the number of matches that NC wrestlers have year in and year out.  Rather the cirticism seems to be of the quality of the opponents that they face on an annual basis.  I don't think he ever ciritcized anyone's character or life outside of high school wrestling.  He simply questioned whether or not the wrestlers that come from NC are as good as their records would suggest.  It seems to be a fair criticism based on the numbers that I have seen and I don't think he should be chastized for bringing up this point.

  3. What it comes down to for me is that I think MD will win at least 7 matches, but will get 3 pins (60 already done once, 89 most likely, HWT the 18-12 kid at some point will be on his back and underneath the state placer HWT which in this class almost always equals fall).  This is why I think MD will win by about 10 or more.  I don't think Lannert will get pinned, and I don't think Riggs will get pinned at 40-45.  I would not be shocked if the 215 got stuck for MD, but I saw him hold a stud from CA to a major in last years team regional.  MD 3 is outclassed, but I still don't see him getting pinned.

Don't think you can count on this necessarily.  I think Shurg will wrestle a much different match in these circumstances.

  4. I think you are thinking of Bemenderfer from Penn.  He placed third his junior year then didn't wrestle his senior year because he had a football scholarship to Northwestern.  The only one I can think of that fits this criteria is Galka from Hobart.  He won state as a freshman then quit wrestling for a year, then came back to wrestle again his junior or senior year.  I don't remember if he ever won state again, but I think he did place high his senior year.

  6. Not really a computer guy, but how difficult would it be to set up interactive brackets where you click on the winner and it advances them to the next spot and the loser moves to the consolations?  I think that would be a really cool way of making these picks.  Just asking not complaining.

  8. I have a question.  If a wrestler uses the 4lb allowance, is there going to be an issue with them weighing in should they qualify for the Semi-State on the following Saturday?  I really have not done the math, no time to right now, nor do I remember exactly what % they are allowed in the week to do the math.  Anybody care to comment?

    103 now is 107

Max weight for semi state should be 105

    (105-107)/107 = 1.87% of body weight.

    This is a legit concern.

  9. No apology necessary because you really don't use logic, you just hide behind it to obfuscate issues.  But I do have to hand it to you, you at least responded to the point I made in my original post.  Nice going.  You're maturing.  Now if we can just get you to not have to get the last word.......

How exactly does one hide behide logic?  It would seem to me that using logic would be a good thing when trying to argue a point.  You should try it sometime.

Also, please stop using the automatic MS Word Thesaurus.  When you use words like "obfuscate" but write sentences like " But I do have to hand it to you, you at least responded to the point I made in my original post.", it makes you sound like an idiot.

  10. I'll be upset if it is deleted.  I don't necessarily agree with what it says and I don't have a problem on the surface with the move and I do not have enough information to feel comfortable weighing in.  However, he presented the arguement in a thoughtful way and sighted past examples of behavior to support his claim.  It would be a huge mistake to remove a post just because someone doesn't agree with it or are afraid it may cause controversy.

  11. There are more opportunities to train with excellent coaches and partners available today than in the past.  This has helped those who specialize in wrestling (where you ususally see the 2-4 xers) elevate themselves that much higher above the pack.  When you focus on wrestling year round (even if you are involved in other sports) and have access to rooms with the best coaches and training partners, those people are going to inevitably pull further ahead.

  12. Let me qualify this by saying that Rankings Guy had fantastic career and that he has had far more success than most if not all of us had on the mat (me included as I was lucky to be considered average).  Top 20 all time may be stretching it though.  Here are 20 guys in the last 10 years who are at least comparable.

  13. It is never considered a waste of time when it come to educating someone in this sport especially if it is about one of your former wrestlers. didn't take long at all :)

As posted earlier, Nate Moore, three time state qualifier, 2x champ, Fargo National champ, Fargo National runner up, 4 x Fargo all american, 3x NCAA Qualifier.

I bet coach Tonte could give you even a deeper write-up in a short amount of time on him, if you need it.

    coach Weimer

That's fine, I'll add him to the list too.  The point wasn't that I needed to be educated it was just that the list was to show that top 20 in IN History probably only includes a few of the people on the list and is a VERY exclusive club.

  14. Bash 513 and Y2 is a stud,

Bash 513 Your top 20 in the last 10 years isn't valid without having Cashe' listed in that group.

Do you even know his accomplishments??

    4 time state qualifier Q,2nd,1st,3rd

    3 time NHSCA All-American 8th soph,7th junior,2nd as a senior

    Junior Freestyle Champ

NCAA Div 1 AA 6th as a true freshman

Bash 513 you stated, ?Cashe only won one state title.  While the argument could be made, I went with people who's numbers supported the claim.?

Well his numbers CAN support the claim, looking at the 20 wrestlers resume?s you listed.

    1. There are 3 NHSCA Senior Finalists Larimore and Coughlin were champs, Alex Tsirtsis 2nd.  Cashe? 2nd

    2. There are 7 Fargo finalists Wright and Tsirtsis @ Cadet/Fila Cadet Level champs n FS. Angel, Andre, Alex, and Reece 2nd in Junior FS. Reece champ n Junior GR. Howe, Coughlin, & Cashe? Junior FS Champs.

    3. There are 6 NCAA Div 1 AA or Champs. Angle (4-time AA) and Howe (2-time AA and counting) both champs, Reece(2-time AA) was a finalist, and Alex, Andre, Matt were 1 time AA?s. But only 2 wrestlers have achieved AA status their true freshman year in the past 10 years, Andrew and Cashe?.

Bash 513 you stated, ?I personally think he should be on the list but I was going for people who's resume was similar or exceded.?

Who on the list has exceeded Cashe?s  accomplishments other than a few individuals mentioned above???

Y2 is a Stud you stated, ?Weinzapfel was a 2x and gave Tshirts more then he wanted...Cashe isnt close to the list.?

Well posted above are his accomplishments, so I ask you how is Cashe? not even close to the list????

    Coach Weimer

Another thing, Nate Moore & Camden Eppert I feel should be on this list also.

    Coach,

You just wasted a whole lot of time, but to appease you, and others, Cashe has been officially added to the "list."

I will need to see similar evidence and arguments for Nate Moore and Camden Eppert before I deem them worthy however.

  15. Certainly we look at Friday and Saturday dates...just depends on a number of factors, including a Girls Basketball Tournament we host over Christmas Break.  We have to be fair and make sure they get gym time too.

I tell them EVERY year to set start time first day at 10AM...EVERY year...and I will again... Thanks Darrick

Thanks for the response coach.  Hopefully it will work out in the next couple of years.

  16. David Palmer -  State runner up, 3x State Champion, 2 time college American.

Can we get him on the list?

Just to clarify, I am not creating some sort of an official "good wrestlers of Indiana" list that needs to be added to or subtracted from.  I just, from the top of my head, listed individuals in the past decade or so that had similar acomplishments to the rankings guy who is again a very good wrestler and had a steller career.  I was only trying to prove the point that Top 20 in Indiana History is a very exclusive club and that the term shouldn't be taken lightly.  I apologize for hating on, offending, ommiting, and misrepresenting anyone in the creation of this list.

  17. 15qddut.jpg

I wish I understood what this meant.  I was in no way, shape, or form hating on Cashe by excluding him from the list and the statement you quoted me above was not meant as any disrespect either.  Obviously a great wrestler with a solid college career already started.  I personally think he should be on the list but I was going for people who's resume was similar or exceded.  Just trying to be objective, not hating.

According to the IHSAA site, Craig Weinzapfel won a title as a sophomore at 112 and a senior at 145.

  18. Craig Weinzapfel

    Dexter Larimore

    Brennan Cosgrove

    All won one state title.

Dexter was ranked #1 in the country after his Sr. year and had 2 runner up finishes, one as a sophomore at heavyweight.

I thought Weinzapfel had 2 so if that's the case then I should have left him off the list based on statistics alone but I think an arguement can be made here.

There are obvious reasons why Cosgrove should be listed here even with only one title
