  1. AWESOME! More advice! I love it! Keep it comin lol my team has been noticed for a long time now. We have produced 11 state champions and will produce more in the future. My "gladiators" will be just fine. I have been lucky enough to be a part of this program, and want nothing but the best for it. Most coaches don't post on here, so that they don't get into arguments. I don't need to argue, I debate. ;) there is a difference. I also like to stir the pot a little. No harm intended what so ever. Nothing I post on here hasn't already been brought up once or twice. I just like to correct the convo when it went the wrong direction.  I'm not sending out a "brash" act, and I am humble, but I am also caring coach that treats his wrestlers like family, ask any parent of my wrestlers. I like to say things that my parents want said, but don't want the spotlight. I don't mind it at all. I care about only those in our circle. We love this website, and use posts from it to help fuel us as athletes. We don't need to get extra fuel for competition, our wrestlers desire to win should push them through the situation, but it helps when people trash talk. That's why NFL players use what is said in the papers. I do want to thank you for the lesson on gladiators. It sounds like you watched a lot of sparticus. It was a good series. I liked it too. ;)

Aren't you providing that same "extra fuel" for the competition?

  2. and throw this one in......micic and davis are probably gonna see each other this coming weekend at semi state.....in the semi finals.....what if that 3-2 micic victory gets turned around this time?.....micic could end up 3 seed then.....wouldn't that shake up the potential "greatest finals match ever"........

It's MUCH easier to wrestle someone closer than to reverse the match outcome.  Especially against someone of Micic's caliber.

  3. Johnny Manziel has been given permission to sue people who use his likeness on t-shirts and keep the money, but this kid is ruled ineligible?

This has everything to do with the NCAA making money of of college athelte likenesses.  They are facing law suits right now for this exact thing.  IF they didn't allow Johnny Football to make money from these suits, and they lost their own and had to pay college athletes damages for using their likeness, they would be in violation of their own rule and would have to remove eligibility to all the athletes that they were forced to pay

  4. What are some better tournaments in the Off season? I know a lot of Indiana kids don't travel that much. But what would be worth traveling to?

    FloNationals                Philadelphia, Pennsylvania  April 5-6

ISWA Folkstyle State    Indianapolis, Indiana          March 16-17

NHSCA Nationals          Virginia Beach, Virginia      April 3-7

Just a couple quick ones I looked up real quick,

Pretty crappy that three of these overlap...

  6. Thanks!

OK, wrestler A has both arms wrapped around wrestler B's legs. Wrestler B is completely out of bounds while wrestler A has both feet inside the circle. If Wrestler A has the presence of mind to keep up on his toes then its a TD but if his knees are touching out of bounds then it is not. That is awefully tough to call, they sure don't make life easy for the refs.

Great example of this is the 160 lb championship. I was watching from home and actually had a pretty good view of both the close call/non-takedowns.  IMO the one in the first period was a takedown and the one in the third was not.  It appeared that the right knee (from memory) was down out of bounds leaving only one point of pressure in bounds.

  7. This is something I would like to know, what is the rule for a TD at the edge? I thought it is one foot in for college & two feet in for HS. Can anyone let me know what the college & HS rules actually are?

Not positive on college, but it doesn't have anything to do with feet in high school.  There needs to be two points of pressure in bounds.  If the knees are on the ground out of bounds, it doesnt matter where the feet are.

  8. A little off topic here, but I noticed a lot more and better mat wrestling this year than I have seen in recent years. I always thought that the takedown and cut strategy hurt a lot of Indiana kids at the next level and I was excited to see a lot of tough riding and wrestlers actually working for a turn/fall this year. Anyone else notice this?

  9. There is a NEW REIGON....lol

The region was still tough this year with 3 champs, all underclass men. This is the first year in a long time where one semi state was that much better than the others. I know merrillville has been on top for a while, but not with that type of dominance. I anticipate a regression back to the mean next year. I imagine fw and Evansville with have more than a combined two as well.

  10. I love when boys from da region hit da top of da podium. But the ole rat will call a spade a spade. Ole Sloga would have his way the Mr' Robinson. Just in 2 different leagues. Now if it was on da gridiron or at the track it would be a different story. Mr. Robinson will be da times athlete of da year this year and next. He was da best athlete at the meet yesterday.

Hate to disagree with the region rat, but I don't think sliga would have his way with gelen. I agree he is on a compleatly different level as a wrestler, but gelen is so big and strong, I think it would make for a very close match. 25 lbs is no joke. I saw gelen fight off a very deep single in the finals just by pure strength and athleticism. It would be very difficult for Mitch to finish on him.

Also, I think this post was started as a joke so I hope no one is getting upset about it. There was a post leading up to state where people opined about this fake matchup and it was quite interesting. I think everyone knows they are both amazing wrestlers

  11. Wow, thank you very much. I try to give a play by play as it happens in real time, but I know it ends up being kind of tough to read sometimes. Also, we had serious trouble posting because of network issues. I had to attempt 4 or 5 times before I could get a message to post. I am very appreciative that it was ok for some of you. Thanks again for the kind feedback. It was a blast

I read most of it at a delay as I was following track wrestling or the video feed as much as I could. So timing was not an issue for me. Always found myself going back to read your breakdown of it of I did not see it myself.  Thanks again!

  13. That is a realistic fear.  At this point, the Olympics is the pinnacle for career wrestlers - the one big "payoff" so to speak for athletes who have trained and sacrificed their entire lives for some recognition of their talent - let's face it, wrestling is a sport that's done for love, there is nothing else.  The Olympics are supposed to be the ultimate showcase of amatuer talent - if wrestling does not qualify, I'm not sure what does.

This is a sad day for international sports...

Let me start by saying that I agree that this is a travesty and I cannot fathom the thought process behind this decision.

With that said, the big payoff for athletes that love to wrestle is quickly becoming MMA.  I don't think this decision kills wrestling because these skills are still needed for those who are persuing MMA as a career.

I notice you only picked one champion from Merrillville, Garza at 106. Just curious as to how you arrived at that choice. I know anything is possible, but did you know Garza got third place at semi state and Sinkovics beat him by tech fall?  It wasn't a situation where Garza got stuck by a lucky move or something, after dominating the match.  Not to mention he would also have to get by Red, who is a nationally ranked wrestler, and Lee, who placed third last year.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not belittling your opinion, just curious as to your thought process on this one.

Are we really this sensitive here?
