  1.

  2. Match 1: Roncalli vs. Perry Meridian.

    Match 2: Penn vs. Bellmont.

Match 3: Evansville Mater Dei vs. Crown Point.

Match 4: Delphi vs. Lawrence North.

After watching the individual state finals and looking at the teams what are your picks for the champion of this tournament.  I am going to pick EMD over Perry Meridian for the title.  What is everyone else's picks?

    Match1: Perry Meridian

    Match2: Bellmont

Match3: Too close to predict, but I'm rooting for MD and proud of them either way!!!

    Match4: Lawrence North

  3. I gotta say that I am one who truly was questioning Johns injury by the way he seemed to be dodging Chad all season and to see it happen again at Semi State sort of reinforced it in my mind.

What I witnessed at state was very very cool.  John Sims...you have earned my respect young man. To go through state the way you did was impressive. Your match with Chad was also. You gave it all you had and left nothing on the mat.

Keep your head up because in life, this will be a very small thing. What you did this season will help you later in life. Your work ethic will be good, the way you relate with people will be also. All by being a wrestler. Not a wrestler from MD , CHS or anywhere but just by wrestling. It puts something into a person that a lot of other sports dont.

You will always be able to look back at your years of HS wrestling and pull from that. Not everyone can be a state champion and truly it is a lot of luck and the draw. What you are getting is college paid for with a sport that is demanding but that you like. You will then take what is ingrained in you from wrestling and that great college education you will get and you will great in life John.

Use that college education and be the best person you can be...study hard and wrestle hard and be the person who doesnt live for the glory days of HS but for what the glory days of HS was able to do for you...when you are old like me and cant move like you used too...ha ha

John Iam proud of you and I know the fans of CHS are too..Go get them at Cleveland State brother.....

I have gone back page after page to see where "thestick" was doubting his injury...and what I found was you Grap...glad to see John finally proved himself to you!  Proud of all the wrestlers this week-end...what a great run for E'ville SS!! Wahoo for this post (I'd give you 7 if I could!)

  4. Got some Hot Box Pizza this week-end, delivered after midnight...the crust was awesome and the pizza was still hot when I got it...Large Pizza with any toppings I wanted, 8 breadsticks with 2 sauces, and two large fountain drinks in nice reusable plastic cups (the college guys at the hotel assured me they make excellent beer pong cups), less than $24 & worth every penny...yummy

  5. It's been great watching Jason wrestle...he's definitely a chip off the old block.  Alex was a takedown technician, and Jason dominates in that area as well.  He is lightning quick and so talented.  He was definitely impressive this week-end, clearly the best wrestler in the 140 weight class - in a class all his own.  Great job this week-end, congrats on #3!

  6. Good:

Great wrestling!  Trey Reese totally dominated - falls through the State title (I think, under the old format he would have earned the most points - and DESERVED to - WOW...impressive)....Ayersman's OT victory...getting my first look at Nathan Boston (real deal), Neal Molloy, Jake Lannert, Sims v. Welch (all Eville area) championship...Stein repeat...Eville SS sweeping 152-171

Freshmen that I'll be watching (impressive wrestling)...Micic (Hanover Central), Carroll (Yorktown), Corsaro (Cathedral)

Met great people from all over!  Loved talking to other fans who love it as much as I do.  After meeting some of the parents, I can tell why some of these boys are class acts, great support systems at home.

    Bad:

Saw several missed calls...especially the non-award alot for a peterson...and at least 3x's I thought a defensive pin was occuring, but the refs didn't even seem to be paying attention!

I too saw some bad sportsmanship...and was also wishing they would have mentioned some more of their academic honors, it's especially good for those young aspiring wrestlers watching to hear about the academic accomplishments as well as wrestling ones of those young men they are looking up to and hoping to be "just like" one day.

  7. Between theStick and BlueBolt (to a much lesser extent), the complete and utter hatred of MD is not only disgusting from what I believe to be two grown men, but a little disturbing to think you have nothing better to do than to get on here and try to pick on teenagers.  If you were at Conseco, you would have heard the MD crowd cheering for all of our area kids, I know because I was right in the middle of it cheering!  I almost completely lost my voice cheering for Doug Welch in his finals match, however, I must admit I had to save some of it to cheer for Johnny!! You have both questioned John's injury, but I assure you, it is very real; he is just a young man, in a lot of pain, trying to accomplish a dream that his now deceased father began with him a long time ago.  Had I seen Momma Welch before I left Conseco, I would have congratulated her for a job well done, and I know she must be very proud, and in the end, it was a win for our area no matter who came out the victor.  I have no animosity towards any school in our area...maybe a healthy rivalry at times...Great competition is what continues to grow our southern programs, the better our competition, the harder we have to work, the better we become (and the more respect the Evansville meat-grinder earns).  Coaches like Bob Harmon, Scott Ferguson, Mattingly, Zuber, Coughlin (the entire Memorial team), make us better wrestlers, because we have to work twice as hard to try to be the best...why would I hate that?  Please try to remember that these wrestlers are kids, they read this board, and they are not always as equipped as us ADULTS to shrug it off.  I have said things on this board that I regret, or feel should have been worded differently, but I have never tried to gut a kid...we all make mistakes, but it is the learning from them that counts.

Congrats to all of the area wrestlers!!!  Saw great articles about great wrestlers from our Evansville Semi-State in the local papers from Indy to Evansville!!!  On a side note, Sam Goebel, Josh Piere, Trevor Moody, Blake Rueger, Quincy Richey, John Sims (runner-up), and Josh Boots (those are the ones I can think of), were dealt their 1st loss in the State tourney to the eventual State Champ...so they truly lost to the best wrestler! I can't wait to see how the next few years pan out...it's getting exciting down here folks!!!

  8. This week-end of wrestling was AMAZING!!  I saw some great matches...and Kyle Ayersman's OT win alone was worth the price of admission.  I take nothing away from Brenden Campbell, who is an excellent wrestler in his own right...but man...Kyle Ayersman NEVER gave up...a lot of wrestlers would have accepted defeat...but he is a true champ, refused to go down, and seized it in the end!!!  Great job!!!!

Congrats to all of the champs, runner-ups, placers, and qualifiers. I saw some impressive wrestling on all levels this week-end!!!!

  9. Not only did Drake dominate throughout the entire State series, capping it off with a repeat on top of the podium...he won the Mental Attitude Award!  Cannot think of a wrestler more deserving than Drake.  Although I'll miss seeing him wrestle in our tourney series...I cannot wait to see what he brings to Purdue!  Congrats Drake!!!

  10. I thought the officiating on Saturday was inconsistent at best, but the wrestling, that was right on.  I didn't see any major blow ups, any big fights with kids and/or officials, and not one fence got knocked down...overall, very good sportsmanship.  Some brackets may seem lopsided, some great kids got left behind, some bad calls were made...but the wrestling...that was right on.  And isn't that what it's all about?  Wrestling?  Anyone can lose on any given day...no one is a LOCK...which means...if they want it bad enough...ANYONE can win.  I lost a lot of my wrestlers this week-end...and although I think they deserve to be there, I would never take away from the true accomplishments of another wrestler.  Dunkle straight out wrestled - there were no questionable calls, dirty manuevers, excessive stalling.  He had no hand in what side of the bracket he landed on...I'm sure he was just ecstatic to be there, considering his season ended the week before. This is an exciting moment for Dunkle, let him enjoy the ride, he earned it.  Good luck to all of the wrestlers headed to Conseco ~ I'll be rooting especially hard for the boys from Evansville's SS!!

  11.

I have heard nothing but good things about Zach Henderson and I feel for him but that's the unfortunate thing about how these things work out.  He'll be back next year.

Zach is a Senior...so he won't be back next year, which is why I think so many people are upset for him.  Good luck to Dunkel - he earned it.
