  1. Most importantly I just received a message from Ron Dull of South Adams to advise that his wrestler (Maverick Summersett) who injured his arm in the match against Franklin Community yesterday at Team State underwent surgery last night and the doctors were able to properly set and align the arm and he was released to head home.

In all of these post and accusations against teams by people maybe we just need to keep in mind that these are kids and it's kids sports in the end of the day.

Congrats to all the teams that came to Team State yesterday and braved the weather to get there and to all the families that came and supported their wrestlers and teams.

    Jason,

thanks for they updates.  I was right there when this happened - that though of that could have been my kid went through my head 100's of times.  Good luck to Maverick on his recovery - hope to seem him on the mat again once he had fully recovered.

Also thanks to all the kids, coaches and parents for attending yesterday - good luck the rest of the season.

  2. GOOD NEWS! - We will have a parade of teams before the event.  Coaches meeting will be at 8:30 - during that time we will be lining up kids for the parade of teams.  Once coaches meeting is over (around 8:40) we will start parade of states.  Should be fun for the kids and parents.  If you have a school flag or sign you would like to carry please bring with you.

  3. Coach Shelton,

This is Chris Lynch - one of the Vice Chairs for the ISWA.  I will try to answer some of your questions the best I can.

The Elementary State Duals were started 5 or 6 years ago when I was Folkstyle Director for the ISWA.  Hearing many request from coaches to have such an event Franklin Wrestling Club took it as one of their events and ran with it.  I first started it as a local club event and an Academy Event - that didn't work so had to make changes at last minute to have enough  teams to have the event.  Since then it has grown 3 times over thanks to the help great coaches like yourself and past and current ISWA Board Members that have really worked hard to make this a great event.  That is a little history on the event.

With that being said we have used the criteria of separation the top 4 teams from the previous year since the 2nd year of having the event when it was discussed at board meeting on how we would separate the top teams.  Wrong or right that is the way we put it into place - thats not saying we can't change the way we do it for future years but thats the way it will be set up for this year.  The top 4 Team from pervious year rule is for separation and not seeding.  Another thing that has changed that we have failed to take of the flyer (and can be blamed on me since i should check all printed material before it goes out) is the Team Draw.  This being the 3rd year we have used Trackwrestling at this event  - our head pairing person for this event Pat Culp - separates the top 4 from the previous year and lets the computer randomly place the other teams - this is done at her home and not at the ISWA office.

Anyone that would like to make recommendations on any changes - such as the ones Coach Shelton can be e-mailed to the ISWA office at iowa@sbcglobal.net and we would be happy to consider different ways of doing things.  Thank you and look forward to great event this weekend and remember we do this for the kids!

    Out: Jake Moore at 60.

Maligned asked for a reason for such a big swing in the scores, and I simply offered what I knew to be different this time around.

Perhaps you are right, though, that Cathedral simply just lost some weights they "shouldn't" have this time . . .

    A lot of 'em . . .

i could be wrong - but i think Franklin had a different 106 also.

  6. There are still a lot of spots open on the Cadet and Junior National Team going to Fargo.  If you are panning on going get a hold of the team leader for your age group ASAP!  We are taken petitions for the team for those who did not place top 3 at state or were unable to participate at ISWA Freestyle / Greco Roman State.

Junior Team Leader  - Mark Stevenson - 812-390-8656

Cadet Team Leader - Thomas Pompei - 317-730-4056

  7. ****PLEASE NOTE****

Some of the information listed on the ISWA Website Central Regional Flyer is not correct.  The information listed at the top of this post and below is correct.

    1) Freestyle Wrestling for ALL Age Groups will start Saturday at 10:00 am - the iswa website has kids starting at 9:00 am

    2) All Wrestlers (age groups) can register on site and weigh-in on Saturday morning (not just cadets and juniors as listed)

    3) There are NO Greco Only Registration and Weigh-ins on Saturday Night - Greco only registration and weigh-ins are Sunday Moring

Please refer to the USA Wrestling Event Schedule (the posted at top of this post) and the link is http://www.teamusa.org/Home/USA-Wrestling/Events

  8. Jose and his little brother Carlos (who is also very tough) live with their parents in Griffith, Indiana. They are INDIANA residents and have been this entire school- year. Jose attends Marian Catholic HS just over the border in Illinois.

Both boys are eligible for all ISWA events. Both boys will represent INDIANA in all National USA events.

I hope this clears up some questions  :)

and to add to that - both are great kids - we are glad they will represent Indiana this summer.

  9. This is being posted by the request of Patt VanHorn - ISWA Tournament Director

  12. Mike Dowden passed away on Friday late afternoon.  Mike was the past State Chairman for the ISWA and grew the Indiana kids wrestling program to one of the best in the country.  He taught me that the sport of wrestling is more than about just one kid or one team but that we do this for ALL the over kids.  Mike also served on several boards for USA Wrestling and will be truly missed.  Please pray for Sharon Dowden and their kids and grand kids during this tough time.
