Does the IN mat team make #7 IN teams?
-
As a parent of a Cathedral wrestler, I must say that I am looking forward to next year (and the following ones of course). I also must say that I find the recruiting talk interesting. I dont know about anyone else but either they just weren't really interested in my pretty well known wrestler or they did a great job of hiding it. We were not contacted by anyone from the school until well into the application process and even then, I had to seek out the coach to discuss the wrestling program. Obviously I was familiar with their athletic tradition but enrolling my son was primarily for the purpose of the education and the atmosphere. We had several other free public schools that he could have gone to with excellent wrestling programs that just weren't what my son needed. Everyone has their reasons for choosing the school their children go to. Instead of always screaming recruiting, maybe consider that the parents went there, maybe the public school option in the area is not the atmosphere they want their child in, or maybe they see how much their son's best friend has benefitted from the school and are tired of him saying that they need to go to the "best school ever" (taking credit for my own personal Stewart recruiting, lol). Seriously though, how many parents can say that their child actually looks forward to going to school everyday? I can say that.
It is a fact that Private schools have the benefit of drawing students from all over. That should not be confused with recruiting.

how old is Stewart? i heard he will be driving himself to school next year....
He may look like a grown man but Ben is a month shy of being a first year cadet. He will not be driving until sometime his sophomore year. Regardless, coming in at a weight of 160+, he will be competing against mainly upperclassmen so his age is irrelevant. Don't take away from the fact that he is a phenomenal wrestler and will be successful.
Cath160- I don't think he has any parts left on him to surgically repair, lol. Also, I don't think posting on this board is a good use of that school time that I pay for :-)

I agree with wrestlingfan that Ben Stewart will have a lot of success as soon as he hits HS. I am personally hoping that he goes the Fighting Irish route!

They only wrestled the first 2 rounds on the winners side and 3 rounds of consolations. Everyone that should have won the first 2 seemed to. I don't remember seeing any major early round match ups but I don't know everyone of course.

Wow. I was surprised to get onto the message board and see my son's name in all caps as a thread subject. I would like to point out that he is a child and he reads this board before anyone says anything insulting.
The score was 10-9 before the pin. McClurg had 3 take downs and 2 reversals, Rypel had 2 escapes McClurg gave him, 2 reversals, and 3 nearfall.
They are both tough kids with completely different wrestling styles. Blake's just worked out better in the end this time. They will see each other a few more times this year.

Ben is an amazing student, an amazing athlete, and a fine young man. He had a great opportunity to attend ISI and he and his family thought it was the best choice for him this year. The experiences that he will have through their curriculum, international studies, and travel will last him a lifetime. I wish we could have done the same with my son.
I am happy he is recovering well and looking forward to seeing him excel in his high school career when he gets there (although I would much rather see it be at Cathedral).

Who are the coaches for these teams?

There are so many things that trackwrestling can do and even more are added all of the time. It is really pretty awesome but I agree that it can crash an entire tournament if something is done wrong. It will be even better when it can seed based on profiles and not just selected criteria, lol. As far as entering results, this was not an issue. We had a computer at each table and match results were live (enter each takedown, etc as it happens). This is a very cool and efficient way to use trackwrestling. You could follow each match on the trackwrestling dashboard just like IHSAA Finals.

I hope that Mr Durham does not mind me answering on his behalf but I believe I know the answer since I helped with registration. A wrestler can be registered on trackwrestling but will not show up on the viewable pre-registration list until their registration is complete and paid. They are in the system, just on the back end. There were several wrestlers that had trouble with the payment part of trackwrestling and contacted us ahead of time to make arrangements to pay their entry fee upon arrival. Once they came in, they were released. They had to wrestle in their registered weight class or pay the fee to move just like everyone else though. They did not register after closing.
I am sure that Mr Durham will look into a way to have wrestlers in that situation listed as unpaid but viewable to everyone else next year.

Thank you to the moderator for deleting that innapropriate post.
The only comment tbat I have on this thread is that the tournament director stated that there will be no satellite weigh ins next year. It will likely be all pre-bracketed, declared weights with weigh ins before each session.

Way to go CJ! Tulsa is a very tough tournament and this is a great accomplishment.
Ben Stewart is one tough kid. Ben started having excruciating back pain during his semi-final match and ended up injury defaulting the rest of the tournament, ending up in 6th place. He is still undergoing tests but it looks like his injury is pretty severe and he may be out for quite some time. He really appreciates all of the support that the wrestling community has been showing him.

Indy Nationals does not allow general faxed weigh-ins for all out of state wrestlers. There is an option though that is only allowed if pre-approved and for wrestlers that actually wrestle at a sanctioned event on Saturday. There is a form that must completed and signed by the tournament director or head official (including name and phone number for reference) that shows the Saturday morning weight. There are many events going on at this time of the year. This option allows wrestlers to participate that would not otherwise make it to weigh ins due to another tournament. My son competes in tournaments out of state all of the time and has been allowed to do this a few times.
Do not confuse the limited faxed weigh in option that is offered by Indy Nationals with the local tournaments where mom and dad are using the bathroom scales or guessing at juniors weight and sending it in on their own. Weight challenges are also allowed although I am not sure what the guidelines are for them. I know it is not a perfect system but all efforts are made to keep it fair to the wrestlers that weigh in.

Congrats also to Champion Jose Champagne and to Blake Rypel and Ryan Ford for placing.
There were several other IN wrestlers that wrestled hard and had a great day.
-
Awesome day of wrestling, great job CJ!
-
All three of you are hilarious!
Congrats to all of the Indiana boys that made that long trip to Utah and did such a fine job representing Indiana.
-
When will the actual line ups be posted? This list looks like it is strictly based on top 2 placers.
-
Congrats to both Ben Stewart and CJ Red for their outstanding performances at Reno Worlds in Reno, NV. Their placements at this tournament secured the position on the World All-Star team and #1 spot on the National Youth Rankings. Way to go boys!
-
Congrats to champs Chad Red, Jose Champagne, Alex Masconi, Nathan Walton, Mason Parris, Gable Steveson, and Eli Pokorney!
Also to runner-ups Drew Hughes, Lukasz Walendzak, Bryce Baumgartner and All-Americans Ben Stewart, Cade Meier, Greg Brown, Jacob Obst, Drew Hildebrandt, Randy Scott, Travis Gooding, Wesley Beck, Cael McCormick and Brock Morgan.
I am sure I missed a few more.

Congrats to CJ on an impressive win today at the Asics/USAW Folkstyle National Championsips in Iowa. This accomplishment earned him enough points to secure one of the top 3 spots in his division of the Ultimate Challenge Series to earn a Dominator belt. Way to go on a very impressive year so far!
