I could see Dustin Shurg doing well. He beat Bradley over the summer. I saw him wrestle Peppers moving up a weight and dominated him. Would not be surprised to see him in the top 5.
-
This was one of the strongest University world teams I can remember. I thought the results would be much better. I thought Reader and Kilgore would win gold or medal. Sanders beat Escobedo at the Olympic trials. I think Escobedo had beaten him 5 or 6 times before that.
-
He suffered a pretty bad injury against burroughs. Maybe that could have something to do with it. Also I think Oklahoma is trying to make a push for a national title next year. They will have a solid lineup the next year.
-
Thanks for the article. Shoulder injuries in wrestling can linger. Hope for a speedy recovery. I would assume this puts the debate of redshirt to rest.
-
For the indiana wrestling fan that is a bummer, but you are right he is probably already getting ready for college. Maybe a summer to get away for a little bit and get refreshed for the college season. Sliga and Micic will still be right there. Anybody know of any graduated seniors from indiana that will be there? McKinley? Harvey? Jackson?
-
Anybody know if he will be going to Fargo? I know a lot of graduated seniors do not go. I know his brother went after he graduated. Any info would be great.

I think if we were going senior vs. senior year. Jason had the better resume, but would he win?? Be a great match. If we were going overall high school career, I still think Jason had the better resume. It is amazing how close they were. They both won their sophomore titles in high school in overtime match. Here are just some stats on both wrestlers below.
Howe 3 time state champ only one loss to Reece
2005 placed third at Fargo as a cadet: 3rd ? Andrew Howe (IN) dec. Alec Ortiz (OR), 8-5, ot, 4:24
2006 placed DNP or maybe did not particpate???
2007 placed third at Fargo as a junior: 3rd Andrew Howe (Indiana) over Jedd Moore (Ohio) Dec 2-0, 2-0
2008 placed first at Fargo as a junior: 1st Andrew Howe (Indiana) over Alex Meade (Delaware) Dec 0-1,3-0,6-2
Just a few notes on Andrew's senior year. He did not compete in Dapper Dan or Dream Team because Jason Welch and Scott Winston were ranked above him. He did beat Conrad Polz by 1 point in the Illinois/Indiana dual. If we are comparing senior years this would be a big factor.
I am not sure if he competed at Fila Cadets??
Jason 4 time state champ (two losses Quiorga and Napules).
2008 placed 4th at Fargo as a Cadet: 3rd Jesse Delgado (California) over Jason Tsirtsis (Indiana) Dec 6-0,2-1
2009 placed 2nd at Fargo as a Cadet: 1st - Edwin Cooper (Illinois) over Jason Tsirtsis (Indiana) Dec 4-2,2-1
2010 placed 3rd at Fago as a Junior:3rd Jason Tsirtsis (Indiana) over Taylor Moeder (Kansas) Dec 4-0,1-1,7-0
2011 placed 1st at Fago as a Junior: 1st Jason beat Short 1-0, 1-0
2012 still unknown
Jason is a two time Fila Cadet champ.
He won the Dapper Dan by 9 points and beat the second ranked guy in the nation by 14 at the Dream Team. He pinned the Illinois state champ in the Ill/In dual.
It would have been a great match. I don't think you can go wrong with saying either was the best from Indiana in high school. Hope Jason's career turns out as good as Howe's.

Well deserved! What a year and good luck next year and this summer

Tsirtsis coming out of high school this year reminds me a lot of Andrew Alton two years ago. Alton won everything his senior year and was in between weights 141/149. Alton did not redshirt freshman year, had a tough cut to 141. He started out on fire and beat some really good wrestlers almost beat Russell early in the season, he wore down as the year went on and did not AA. Hope he can do what is right for him, would love to see him 4 AA and win a championship or two whatever route he chooses to go.
-
I hope he redshirts as well. He can still wrestle midlands and some other big tournaments as a redshirt freshman. I think redshirt next year and grow into a good size 149lb in two years. A lot of studs coming back at 141 and Oliver in there as well. 149 will have Ness, Alton and McCauley. Not that Jason can't beat them, but one year of figuring out college can go a long way.
I would have to think it will be Jason's decision to redshirt or not, not Northwestern's that is just my opinion.
-
Dingo,
Any word on howe's injury? Had to be really bad if he did not wrestle. He wrestled really good today
-
It was fun to Watch Tsirtsis in high school he just keeps getting better. I hope he wrestles fargo this year or hopefully he makes the junior world team. Would like to see a rematch with McCauley. He dominated the #2 ranked wrestler tonight.
-
Really good chance this match could happen. Brackets for tomorrow on trackwrestling. Taylor needs to beat Fay then would wrestle Howe (Howe has first round bye). Can't wait to see it. Going to be two great days of wrestling.
-
2-0, 4-2 You could tell McCauley's style frustrated Jason.
McCauley was tough, definitely frustrated Jason. McCauley very good at freestyle. McCauley went on to pin Stieber.

The great lakes team looks pretty tough.

I agree great seeing Alex back on the mat was great. Hope he continues and this was not just a one and done. There was a real possibility that they could have wrestled (Jason and Alex). That would have been great, Jason in interviews always says Alex beats him. Wow Jason was great today, had Johnston beat. Great day of wrestling. I think Jason could compete for a national title next year, but hope he redshirts and is a 4 time AA. I think Alex could compete with the best at 145 if he trained full time.
-
Alex lost to Dardanes in 3 periods and is out. I'm not sure where/how Dardanes scored his point in the 3rd (maybe someone saw it better than me) but it clearly changed the match mentally for Alex.
I think they called a penalty point. It was the difference and the clinch in the first.

This totally sucks not watching the matches!! just play by play, caught myself screaming at the computer ha blinddddd
Jason is still in great position 1 win away from 3rd place match 2 wins away from guarantee 3rd and shot at 2nd place could be a rematch with Johnston
I am pretty sure if Johnston losses to Kolat and Jason wins out he would not wrestle Johnston for true second since Johnston already beat him. Jason was up 3-1 and could have probably used more of the mat if you know what I mean, but he was tough. A couple of really nice duck under against a really good wrestler.
-
Jason over Caldwell!! 8-0 1-1
-
Not sure if there is free live stream but you can go to the dapper dan webpage and purchase it I think. I know flo will be there but don't think it will be live but they usually archive some of the matches. Good luck to Jason and Jarred. Really wish Jason was wrestling Minotti, but Beitz is tough as well. I think both will win. Here is the order
weight class order
132 McGuire v Richards
152 Copeland v Realbuto
170 Riddick v Crutchmer
285 Robinson v Vollaro
182 Phipps v Rogers
195 Hills v Harrah
220 Rizzo v Marchok
138 Spearman v Meeks
145 Beitz v Tsirtsis
160 Brill v Brunson
113 Rappo v Brooks
120 Roberts v DiCamillo
126 Gulibon v Clark

Indiana has won this dual meet the last couple of years because Illinois did not send their best. This year I thought both teams were really strong. Illinois year after year wins or places top 3 at National Freestyle and Grecco duals.
Here are the results:
-
Any chance anybody have the results from the other mat? I think they called it the "A". Thanks
-
The result does not surprise me that much. Illinois is really deep and sent a really good team this year. I was not surprised that Jackson and Mckinley lost. Silvestro and Richards are studs. I was surprised at how tired Jackson and Mckinley looked. McMurtry is really good but Harvey should have won that match. Dechow beat Sliga last year in freestyle so we knew he would be good, I thought Lynde wrestled well against him. Glad it was on the web this year pretty cool to watch the dual. I wish Klimara would have wrestled Ayersman would have been a great match.

Minotti losses in the Semi-finals to a Sophomore Warner. PA is one tough tournament. Still think Minotti will be at 145 in the Dapper Dan against Tsirtsis.
