  1. Wrestling fans can't complain any longer that their sport is ignored by the IHSAA in favor of basketball, since the IHSAA has now succeeded in ruining the championships of both sports with class basketball and now the moronic scoring of this year's wrestling tournament.  Don't these administrators have to take basic logic classes en route to getting their crappy masters degrees in education?  If they weren't so self-righteous, I would have sympathy for their embarrassing stupidity.  It is sad that they don't have the sense to recognize and reward a significant achievement like winning a first-round match at the state finals and just use the same scoring system that every other team non-dual tournament in the country uses.

    future IOC members!
  2. Anything that blocks the flow of air or blood is an illegal hold.

I agree 100%, but showing a video made 13 years ago, obviously isn't helping. Maybe they shoulddo  same thing for refs, that I had to do when I got my first stripe in bjj. We had to get choked out. Maybe if they felt the sensation of no blood circulation, they would know better what to look for? As for it being part of the sport, I don't agree. Yes it's the toughest sport, and things get dislocated, broken, torn bodibloodied and so on, but I would say 95% of those were unintentional. The match I seen, the kid wouldn't lose that match if they wrestled 100 times, so what is the point?
  3. Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on mma moves being used in wrestling and dirty (I.e. eye poking, grabbing the opponents package)wrestling? I seen a kid choked "out" this weekend, and the ref had no clue. Luckily a coach from another team seen what was going on and went out there and signaled the trainer. Should coaches train submission defenses? Should refs be taught what to look for? Don't get me wrong, I love wrestling, and mma, but to me the are separate sports, and should start that way.

  4. Who are his losses to?

he got pinned by Chris Travis of Eastern, who is in the same regional, and it's a long road making it to state in out regional, and not being a champion. But i guess anything is possible. Imho, Travis is the best hwt in our area, but i look forward to or hwt wrestle either of them. Going to be some good matches.
  5. Intentions have nothing to do with whether something is a slam or not. Glad a kid didnt mean it or the opponent did something different than you were expecting. Rules are clear, the offensive wrestler is responsible for bringing his opponent back to the mat safely, period,  end of story.

it rarely us called like that.

  9. If you want a simple reason why some football coaches discourage wrestling check out the thread before this called how much weight to drop where one of the posters brags about dropping 40 pounds from 158 to 118

what does it matter what you weigh 9 months before football starts? I love the post above, we have a bunch of kids that like to"just lift" for football, and most of them lose their spot to a smaller wrestler, that wrestled all winter, and lifted all summer!
  10. Phelps is the greatest, end of discussion.  Any of the arguments (swimming is too exclusive so only rich white kids do it, swimming has too many opportunities for medals) just don't hold water (pardon the pun).  His dominance is unparalleled at the olympics in any sport.  Keep in mind that I can't swim worth a lick so I have no personal appreciation for his feats.  I have just totally enjoyed watching him mow down the competition especially during his previous two olympics.  This olympics is just a coronation of his achievemnets.  Wildcat, you and Skip Bayless and Michael Wilbon can remain in the tiny minority that believe Phelps not to be the greatest olympian to date.

totally disagree. If I have 40 chances to win, and win 20, that isn't any more impressive than winning one, and only getting one shot. Add for the best Olympian that represents whatthe olympic spirit is all about, I'd say Potorious is the greatest olympic Steele of all time. I can't imagine being born with out legs, and still believing in yourself enough to think you could even compete with the best in the world. To me, that is what the greatest Steele in the world did
