  1. I hope this doesn't go to Barlow's head and he has a let down cause hehas to face #6 Grey from Cathedral Thursday.  Congrats Brannigan you deserve it but stay focused

He's a pretty down to earth kid and one of the hardest workers I have ever coached. I would venture to say that on any given day anyone can be beat, but Brannigan will be aiming for a state title no matter who is in the weight class. There's no doubt he's proud of his wins, but at the same time he realizes that the tournament series hasn't even begun yet. It is my hope that this just drives him to work harder.

Him wrestling Harper would show "where he's at?" I am pretty sure that he beat the guy that pinned Harper. I am also pretty sure he just beat the guys ranked 1 and 2 in the state. It is apparent where he is at: right there with the best of them in the state.

  2. Knox won the duals with a 5-0 record over CMA, Logansport, Broad Ripple, Lafayette CC, and North Judson. CMA was missing a few starters because they are in troop and they're participating in the Inaugural parade for Obama.

CMA went 2-3. Undefeated for CMA was Daniel Young (28-0), Jack Crawford (27-1) and Zak Hewitt.

  3. As big as Thadaus Douglas?

I don't know how big he was as a freshman. He was a stout senior. I did say that Cody was a big freshman! Not to mention Thadaus was how many years ago a freshman? 13 or 14? That's not quite "recent" times!

  4. Either way, Rankingsguy, you do a fantastic job. You put a ton of time in to these and I can't imagine having to sort through the million emails you get. There's only one list that counts and that's the list that goes on the IHSAA website that says "State Finals Results!"

Thanks for all you do for the wrestling community. Like someone else mentioned, you can't win them all!

  5. THERANKINGSGUY  and I don't alway see eye to eye on things. But we do talk about alot of guys who I have ranked that he doesn't have ranked but I think he does a great Job. Also Cadet130 you do a great job by getting your kids names out there.

Well I appreciate that. The kid is well-deserving. I know that as a coach, the rankings really mean nothing to ME. However, even when I was in high school, being in the rankings was a big deal. Some kids look at it as being recognized for their hard work. I was the same way in high school, so it's understandable.

I just feel as if in this case, last years results and here-say from those who have seen him wrestle VERY minimal times (if at all) are weighing heavy.

  6. Now that we are in the month of January, how much does LAST YEARS performance weigh on your decisions as to whether a wrestler should be ranked or not?

It is only used as a guideline, and as you see, several kids with no state experience in the rankings..  However, for a kid to go from say a 7-22 record last year to being ranked in the state this year is kind of far fetched, so it all depends on the situation.

Well top 16 isn't far fetched when the kid is 22-1 now (already avenging his only loss of the year, which was only by a point). Let alone he is #4 in the semi-state rankings behind 3 highly ranked wrestlers. Everyone in our sectional, regional, and semi-state graduated. And 15 of the 16 state qualifiers graduated. He lost to lots of seniors last year weighing only 180 pounds!

Well I think of guys like Kinser and P. Young that didn't even wrestle varsity as freshman. They were ranked their sophomore years!  8)

  7. I didn't mean it quite like that, though you can interpret it any way you'd like. For 2 of the duals we ff 4 or 5 weight classes. And trust me...we are not a very good team yet. We are very, very young.

What I meant by the post is that you CERTAINLY won't be seeing any of these teams at state. And in all actuality you will likely see very few of the individuals from these teams at state, too. You can laugh at that, too, if you'd like!

And yes, we did go 1-4. The team that won the tournament only beat us by 4 points (and we gave up 3 forfeits for that one, too).

  8. Knox, Glenn, Triton, CMA...not sure of the others.  Young would have to wrestle 160 to break a sweat there.

You were right about that one. Not too many good matches for the day to be honest with you!

What were some of the best match ups. How bad did Young beat Stockwell Chesterton. Who beat Zach Thornton?

Umm, I don't know who Stockwell is. But Daniel went 5-0 with 1 ff and 4 pins. He pinned all of his opponents in the first period. He has yet to be scored on (besides escapes) this year.

I don't really know any names from this area that well. I just know that there wasn't that much competition yesterday.

  9. How was the match between Minix and Quiroz?

6-2 Mnnix. Minnix took him down 3x...with the only 2 moves he has...a power double and 2 head inside singles to the left leg. anthony had 2 escapes. minnix rode him quite a bit as well; didn't really come close to turning him.

  10. I agree rat, let's see if McMurray and Bennett even wrestle. My money is that they don't. Estrada is a HOUSE, kid benches close to 315 from what I hear!!!  :o

What's he gonna do?? Bench press his opponent off of him and hope his shoulders aren't touching? I'm be more interested in functional training attributes such as rows or dead lifts. Maybe that's just me though...
